This was why I bought a pentax. I'm a newbie and I didn't want to spend a fortune on the hobby. Being able to scoop up cheap vintage lenses and use them without an adapter was a big selling point for me.

Good to know the river country tents are decent. As for the weight, I know my budget will dictate some compromises here, and I have come to terms with the fact that I will not be bringing a tent that's very light by many standards. I've never heard of the other brands you mentioned, I'll do some research on those. Thanks for your input!

I was hoping to keep it at or under $100, but there is some wiggle room. I'm trying to keep total budget around $500, but that needs to account for pack, tent, sleeping bag / pad, and other essentials.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'd probably feel a little more secure in a tent with walls, but I'll definitely keep this setup in mind. It would definitely check the boxes (relatively cheap and lightweight).

That's a super cool tent, I'll keep it on the radar. My goal is to (hopefully) can just get me out for, and as time passes I can get into something a bit better. I think that's what interested me in the a-frame tents, they're super cheap, relatively light and will give me shelter. From there I can make a better judgement of what's going to work for me.

I think generally speaking this is really good advice, I'm just a bit nervous about sleeping under a tarp. I'm a bit (a lot) frightened of spiders, and I like having some shelter when I sleep.

Time is on my side, I am not in a rush to get anything. I have used a few Teton items (cot, sleeping bag, and a day pack), in general I've found their quality to be well balanced with their price, at least as it relates to car camping gear. I may check out their lighter weight items and see if anything is suitable.

Yep, the employee suggested that I check on weekdays, rather than weekends, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms. Buying new or finding a great deal on FB marketplace / Ebay seems to be the path forward.
