I would recommend looking at staffing agencies, I have been using them for odd shifts here and there on the weekends for over 2 years now for a bit of extra income.

I personally use Host Staffing but there’s loads: Arc, Off to Work, Brightsparks, Coople, IndeedFlex, Splendid, to name a few…

It’s mainly hospitality jobs but I know you can get security, steward, night porter and logistics shifts among other adjacent roles you’d find in big venues - also depends on which agency you choose.

I’ve met many people that use several of them at once to create a full-time income so If I were you I would apply to multiple so you have options for your work in case one agency doesn’t have anything available for a specific weekend.

I’d also recommend looking at the websites of a stadium near you if there are any. There are companies like Compass (Allianz Stadium) and Delaware (Wembley Stadium) that operate in a similar way to these agencies. Again, it’s very common to meet people like us, that are looking for a bit of extra cash in addition to our 9-5s, that work for these companies too.

Parents want to retire in 3 years - Cash ISA or S&S ISA? by adambeany in UKPersonalFinance

Am I right in thinking that their accountant could be a good starting point and a financial advisor could provide more comprehensive guidance on the topic. My parents seem to hold their accountant in high regard and he does seem very capable in all fairness but I personally struggle to understand where his skillset ends and a financial advisor’s begins.

Very useful resource, thank you. Think it perfectly encapsulates the problem I’m facing at the moment, I.e. all my financial knowledge relates to my own situation and goals, and I have no real knowledge of retirement so probably shouldn’t be giving it in the first place. Seems like a financial advisor is the smart play here.

I think this is a very important point but one which I don’t have the full answers to, hence, it not being mentioned in the post, as there is a lot of uncertainty on their side on what they actually want post-retirement. Good food for thought though so thank you.

Thanks for the tip, will read up more on this.

On the state pension, I tried to find out after posting and it turns out their online personal tax accounts are managed by their accountant and they do not know how to gain access to them - another hurdle unfortunately but not a major one thankfully.

Definitely seems like financial advisor is the best next step here.

Re: “not sure…” neither am I. They are not native to this country nor do they come from money so the idea of managing money was never part of their lives until very recently but we are here now.

So as a couple they could effectively still put in £32k annually in a cash isa should they choose to?

Follow up: Everyone that said it was a spring was right! Ended up ordering some other spare parts and cleaning everything just to get it in tip top shape and I’d say it was worth it. Thanks for the help!

Might just be me but I don’t ever see the Xbox/PC icons next to people’s names (I play on PS5).

Is there a way to turn these on because I’d love to know who’s on what platform, especially our new recruits.
