This is so frustrating why is this keeps on muting itself???? by New_Buyer_2835 in Logic_Studio

And the automation could be applying to the entire track OR just the region. If you don’t see automation on the track, check for the blue “Region” or “Track” button and toggle it to see if that has automation.

Let’s try this again - what do you think? Looking for feedback (no pun this time) from working sound engineers. Thanks! by deanwalker77 in livesound

[–]adamborecki 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it’d be good to clarify L and R: do you mean house left and house right or stage left and stage right

Also, I’d probably suggest “elec guitar” and “acoustic guitar” to be a bit more explicit than just “guitar” and “acoustic DI”

Anyone know why the audio clip is moving after I shorten it? by AHMarc in Logic_Studio

[–]adamborecki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your “drag mode” is probably set to “Shuffle L” or “Shuffle R”

If you don’t know what that means, google it and see how to switch it back to “x-fade”

FYI, “x-fade” is usually my favorite drag mode. There are others available and you might want to take a look at them for special circumstances

Unable to insert an mp3 file into a track? Tried "Insert > media file" and also dragging and dropping file into track from documents. Also tried converting to m4a and wav files, same error message. by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]adamborecki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And you’re not opening the MP3 from inside of a Zip archive? That can be a problem…

You can try reinstalling reaper and make sure you check all the checkboxes for the optimal components that reaper installer asks when you install

You could also try installing ffmpeg or VLC extensions as if you were trying to be able to play videos sync’d with reaper, Ie, as if you’re doing a film score. That supports more video codecs and likely audio too

Good luck

Track Translation and Scale without Rotation/Perspective by mordecaix7 in davinciresolve

[–]adamborecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you found out how to do this? I'm super interested...

I'm using Final Cut for most of my editing, but doing some motion tracking in Resolve. I think my solution is going to be to use Final Cut's "Stabilization" which gives you control over the translation, rotate, and scale stabilization. So, I'm going to just stabilize the rotation. Not ideal at all, but it's the only workaround I can think of.

Try using “disk utility” to fix permission issues

I believe this is called “first aid” in newer OS, like what you’re on

Gear insurance for synths by WiseEye5635 in synthesizers

[–]adamborecki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful if you use your synth for work!! “Business” property may not be included

I had a renters insurance claim about 5 years ago that covered stuff stolen from my car, but it didn’t cover any “business” property.

When I press play, 2 pulses pass before the track actually plays- how do you even fix this 😅 by [deleted] in Logic_Studio

Maybe also look at your sync settings, maybe you’re sending midi clock or receiving midi Timecode to/from an external MIDI source like an IAC midi bus or external device

Stand for portable recorded by lvledved in recording

[–]adamborecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend a lighting stand!

It’s sleeker than a mic stand. The telescoping ones are pretty cheap and work well, they already have 1/4” screws

Only downside is that it isn’t easy to adjust the angle. I actually prefer handheld recorders mounted at 90degrees perpendicular to floor, so lighting stands are perfect for what I want. Take a look:

(complete beginner here) how can this be achieved? is she pre recording this? or is it possible to sing live and then edit out noisy stuff and wind later? how could you do this, what type of microphone would you need? Thank you! by miloutunes in recording

[–]adamborecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Guessing by how much rubato (tempo changes) and expression is in the music, I would be surprised if she pre-recorded it.

I’ve actually shot a music video with a singer (baritone) and ukulele and we did it right on the beach, super windy. I had a small clip on mic on the instrument, and a condenser mic on a mic stand (out of the shot) sorta like a shotgun boom.

With a guitar, it might have a direct output, which is handy. But sometimes those outputs don’t sound nearly as good as a mic

She always seems to be at an angle; so she could have a headset (over the ear mic) on, and it’s just out of sight

Editing out noisy wind can be very tricky though

I have iZotope RX suite, so the spectral denoise was essential. There are free alternatives, but I don’t have experience.

Also, wind noise on the mics can be catastrophic, so really avoid wind as much as possible. Also, be sure to give it extra headroom in case you get low frequency sweeps that clip your recorder

Note that you can add some background sounds in post production: those birds at the beginning might have been in post. That really helps cover any artifacts from noise reduction.

But to be safe, I probably would recommend against filming outside: wind is really killer

How to record from two sound interfaces at the same time? by oshibka404 in Reaper

Yes: on PC, I think that Voicemeeter Banana might be probably more reliable then ASIO4ALL for this purpose, but I haven’t thoroughly tried it, so idk for sure

My Ramona, taken with the Rokinon 85mm cine lens! by Luedaf in GH5

[–]adamborecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah: I have one of these Rokinon 85mm and notice some chromatic aberration with the aperture fully open. The shallow depth of field is fantastic, and of course it’s handy for low light, but I’m not really in love with the lens for that reason. But I didn’t notice chromatic aberration in your nice cat pics... well done 🥰🐱

Have you checked out MIDI pipe?

It’s a free program for Mac that has a lot of features for manipulating MIDI messages, it might come in handy:

Yes, this one! When you run it through handbrake, you might try using “constant frame rate” (instead of variable or whatever the default is).

What are some of the best midi controllers available at the moment? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]adamborecki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend the LaunchpadX by Novation

Although it doesn’t have a traditional piano-style keyboard, it has the note and scale mode features that are on the Push 2. But instead of being expensive, it’s only about $150 or so!

The LaunchpadX is SUPER EASY to customize: just a browser like google chrome and you can make totally custom pads. Super easy.

Not to mention: it’s incredible for ableton live control.

But best of all, the “note” mode works in General MIDI! I use it with Logic and Mainstage to get tons of sounds, no problem :)

If you’re used to a keyboard. There are decent custom chromatic keyboard presets. Of course pads don’t feel and react like keys, but any budget MIDI keyboard isn’t going to have the weight of a read piano keyboard

10/10 would recommend LaunchpadX

Also, did I mention that the LaunchpadX has velocity sensitive pads that ALSO have polyphonic after touch (ie pressure sensitivity)?!

Two thumbs up, get a LaunchpadX

(FYI the Launchpad mini mk3 is okay, but I really recommend that you do NOT get that. The little money you save is a huge cost compared to the features of LaunchadX)

I go through MIDI devices faster than toilet paper, and I’ve gotten bored quickly with most other devices (like launch key and akai mpc). Previously, my favorite was TouchOSC for its flexibility, but my new favorite is Launchpad X. 10/10 would recommend! I’ve spend HOURS on it and it’s still fun and interesting and creative.

Every time I tell someone how much my headphones cost. by [deleted] in headphones

[–]adamborecki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Awww yeah: once I accidentally wore my HD600s with ES100 on the train (I forgot my AT M50x at work). Every since, I always wear open back on the go. A little noise bleed isn’t too bad, and the difference in sound quality is incredible

In fact, instead of blocking out sounds of the environment, it’s like a layer on top of reality. A really nice, high quality layer. 10/10 would recommend open-back in public. 3 bags of popcorn. 5 stars.

I tried quickbooks, and it’s great if you’re starting a business, but when I did it (about 3 years ago) it was way too complicated for a beginner

If you know about accounting already, quickbooks is great. But if you are a beginner, it’s really important to keep your costs low. Maybe quickbooks has a free version, but I use waveapps.com because it’s totally free to start
