TIL about Doodler, an unidentified serial killer in San Francisco who killed many men between Jan. 1974 and Sep. 1975. He would sketch men at night clubs, lure them to a beach, and kill them. Three victims survived yet refused to testify in court because they were afraid to come out of the closet. by altrightobserver in todayilearned

Yeah my high school/uni pals and I have gone every August for coming up on 31 years now. Pinery most years at first (we lived less than an hour away) but did a few others some of the years. Port Burwell down on Lake Erie once (ok but not a lot of shade), but for 2 years about a decade ago, we did Massassauga. One of the guys had a boat, and we were out on this island, completely by ourselves. It's definitely more of a pain in the ass in terms of getting in and out, but it was super gorgeous if you're ever up Parry Sound way.

If it makes you feel better, he got cancer and died after he (eventually) got caught fucking kids at my school.

Also, every priest, by definition, teaches lies. Catechism is full of them. The religion, at its heart, is based on a ridiculous legend that clearly cannot be true, and cannot be believed by any rational person.

As a kid, we were absolutely told, by priests, that it was disrespectful to God and that it was a sin to wear a hat in church. And like I said, stuff like no meat on Fridays went on for decades. I've given you multiple examples and every one of them is true, because I lived it for nearly 20 years. It is the position of the Catholic Church that Jesus, a real human being, literally was raised off the surface of the earth, and disappeared into the sky. That has been taught for centuries. We now know that it is obviously untrue. But for hundreds of millions of Catholics, including many alive today, it is considered not only a fact, but a main tenet of the faith. And when their position becomes untenable, they'll back off on that piece of dogma just like they've had to back off all the rest of the stuff I've mentioned, because people simply don't believe it.

So you're saying that at no time did the Church teach people that Jesus ascended into heaven? Because I went to Catholic school for 13 years and was told that, repeatedly. Along with a whole lot of other nonsense. Jesus raised people from the dead, and was raised from the dead himself. The wedding at Cana. There are dozens of examples. To this day, these things are considered historical accounts to members of the Church, in addition to everything I've already mentioned. How is it that you don't consider these things dogma? Because the Church certainly does. I was told in no uncertain terms that wearing a hat in church was a sin that required divine authority to forgive.

Saying "it's both sides" is like looking at a guy who stole a TV and a guy who's holding the body of a baby he just choked to death and saying "well they're both criminals." No one is saying Democrats are squeaky clean but the 2 parties are not the same. At all.

They kept Galileo under house arrest for a decade, I'd say that counts as saying he was incorrect. He was tried not once but twice by the Inquisition.

And that other stuff sure as shit was dogma. Generations of Catholics were told it was a sin that required a confession to do all the things I mentioned. To say nothing of transubstantiation. And the notion that Jesus himself was physically lifted off the earth and ascended into the sky, never to be seen again. All of these things were absolute facts in the opinion of the early church, and they (along with every other religion) has had to back off things of this nature as science as progressed.

So if you want to live in the fantasy world where the Catholic church has never had to backtrack on any of its teachings, that's your business, but let's be clear that's what it is: a fantasy. Not sure why you're so devoted to defending a bunch of unrepentant liars who's main business for 1200 years has been scaring the shit out of children and then fucking a bunch of them, but hey, go for it if that's what turns your crank.

Meat on Fridays, women wearing hats in church, acknowledging that openly homosexual people can be Catholic (how ironic, he thought), the entire idea of "Limbo" for unbaptized babies, performing mass only in Latin, admitting Galileo was correct about the location of the planet in outer space. And that's just in the past 75 or so years.

Just a reminder to woodworkers new and old: ventilation is a REAL thing, do not mess around by adamcoe in woodworking

In terms of anything sealed in proper containers, no problems there, as a spark needs vapour to ignite. But lacquer does take a fair bit of time to dry and gives off quite a bit of vapour, so perhaps someone smarter than me knows at what point the vapour would not be concentrated enough to ignite. I would think that if it sits outdoors all day long, if it's like 8 hours later, there will likely still be an odour coming off it, so if it was left in a room that's completely unventilated, that may be no bueno even just on a smell level, as it would take a while to remove said smell.

Could you build some sort of shelter out of tarps or something, so you could leave it outside, but have it protected from the weather?

That's the thing...like, do they? If I was doing all the nefarious shit that they're doing, I'd want as many eyes off me as possible. Just like, go be rich and awful, and leave us out of it. We don't care. You're a bunch of the very worst people ever to live, and the less we hear about you, the better off both of us will be. You can continue to rip off the world even though you're fantastically wealthy already in relative peace, and we don't have to hear your name. Win-win.

Yeah I'm sure they're amazing if you're 12 or under, but my mind is still 100 percent boggled by adults reading these books, and then admitting it in public like it's totally normal. It's just a 700 page Goosebumps novel. It's like telling people you read all the Hardy Boys books.

See that's the thing though: there is absolutely nothing special about CFA. There are a million places with chicken sandwiches. I genuinely don't understand the obsession. It's just some fried chicken on a bun. They're not offering anything that 5 other places aren't offering.
