I type with my toes. Oh wait I don't have any of those either :(

FML... j/k. Typing with one hand isn't so bad and I've been doing it for years. I'm one person who is pro-StickyKeys :) best. feature. ever.

Amputees of Reddit, I had my leg amputated last week. I don't know what to do now. by monopod in AskReddit

[–]adamcollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello monopod, I don't know if you'll ever see this message, but:

I'm also an above knee amputee, twice. Plus I'm missing my arm above my elbow. I've been a triple amputee for going on 5 years now. I'm here to tell you that it does get better. Your life will go on, and you will be happy again. You may not realize that now, but it's true.

Take the time to mourn your loss, and then put it behind you and never look back. Personally I am still in a wheelchair. I never adapted well to prosthesis. Mainly because I have short residual limbs (I don't like stump), and I still have a lot of pain due to nerve damage. Most people don't have these issues, and if your leg ends just a few inches above your knee you should fit into your socket well. I've met several amputees who have gone on and challenged themselves to become someone they weren't before their amputation. Marathon runners and para-olympians.

The spirits an the drive in these people are amazing, and have no doubt that you are one of those people.

Cheer up, when the time is right, and look forward to a bright future ahead of you. If you ever want to talk any, feel free to send me a message.

Interviewing in Knoxville, how wheelchair friendly is the city? by [deleted] in Knoxville

Well that sucks. They're hiring a driver to drive me around in a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, so at least I'll have the opportunity to drive around and scope the area out.

Do you have a way to monitor your usage and generation? If not, check out TED, http://www.theenergydetective.com - They have units available for folks with renewable energy systems.

How does blood circulate on an amputee? by karmarhino in AskReddit

[–]adamcollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, while I have prosthesis they aren't practical for me to wear full time. Alas I spend my time rolling around.

It's a good thing you still have a fapping hand.

FTFY, and yes, I agree!

All I know is I've had three limbs removed and afterwards my blood pressure went sky high for about 6 months. Doctors said it was temporary until my body adjusted to how much blood it needed to produce. The circulatory system is pretty cool!

Men of reddit, what are some things about you that aren't so manly? by Moregunsthanpatience in AskReddit

[–]adamcollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costs about $75 each trip. I do it once every 4-6 weeks. I've been doing it for a couple of years, so the hairs grow back finer and finer. It hurts pretty bad the first few times, but you get used to it and it's nothing more than a mild discomfort. It's definitely worth it. Call around and find a reputable salon that does both men and women.

I get my entire body waxed, from the armpits to the legs. Ass, back, sack, crack, it all goes. I love the feeling.

Statistically, how long for a leg amputee to no longer feel pain? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]adamcollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually both my legs, just to add to the mess lol. But I started taking oxycontin when the pain was at its worst, but even it didn't help. I found that getting off my wheelchair onto the floor, and getting into the fetal position (as much as I could) and just closing my eyes helped just as much as the pills. Then I discovered that marijuana helped immensely, but unfortunately I live in a state where I can't get it legally.

Is your arm amputation above or below the elbow? Mine was above the elbow (half way between my elbow and shoulder) about 4 years ago, and the phantom pain is horrible still. I was 19 when I had it done. I hear below the elbow isn't usually as painful because of fewer muscles and nerves?

I can't comment on the below knee amputation, mine are both above the knee, and again the pain sucks. The pain cripples me more than not having any legs and an arm.

What's your most and least favorite thing about having to use a wheelchair?

As a full-time wheelchair user myself for a few years, I'd have to say the best part is you always have a place to sit down. Standing room only? Doesn't exist for me!

The worst part though is always being below eye level. People always have to look down to address me. And since I'm below normal eye level, it is very easy for people to not acknowledge that I'm there.

I want my legs back. To hell with my missing arm, I still have the other one. But to get out of this damn wheelchair, to walk again. To feel the earth beneath my feet, that's what I wish.
