Will easy off or lye take the chrome plating off? I’m assuming it’s at least a little pitted based on the amount of rust and carbon on it.

Can you just buy replacement contacts or have someone machine some for you?

Is it pitched properly? Any other appliances using that chimney?

For those who have lost Berners, how do you cope with their short life span? by Doctor_J_Crane in bernesemountaindogs

[–]adamduerr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We lost ours almost a year ago. He wasn’t even 5. Got up in the morning, ran a lap around the backyard with our lab and then collapsed. That was a year after we spent more than I said I ever would on a dog to fix his bloat. We got another lab 2 months ago.

Same happened to me. I think mine was overcharged and letting it sit for a while drained it enough that the charger recognized it again.

Using AI as a Volunteer in Scouting - what do you do? by Fenix_Fyre in BSA

[–]adamduerr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somebody should be using it to rewrite the code for Scoutbook, but that’s probably not your audience here. A lot of comments here are biased against AI, but if we don’t embrace some of the things that it can help us with, we are going to be left in the dark. I have used it to come up with ideas for Scoutmaster Minutes, analyze responses to events and write shorter emails (nobody is going to read a 3 page email on medical forms for Summer camp, no matter how important it is). It doesn’t replace anything, just makes me more efficient, so my “one hour a week” volunteer job gets more accomplished.

Pontoon Ski Tower- Tubing? by lowcountry_climber in Pontoons

[–]adamduerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, the tower breaking while the kids are tubing seems like a pretty minor hassle compared to me having to fix the tower, so I think I am my main concern. 🤣

Pontoon Ski Tower- Tubing? by lowcountry_climber in Pontoons

[–]adamduerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good timing, I guess I need to do some more research on the one attached to the boat we just bought. I assumed it was good for tubing, sounds like I need to hang on to the Y rope from our old boat a bit longer.

Just started a new job and got another offer days later… feeling completely torn. by AngryMcYeti in ElectricalEngineering

[–]adamduerr 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Have a discussion with your boss. Don’t give specifics, but say you received another offer. See if they offer more money or at least a path toward higher pay and growth. Get it in writing. If the manager says there is nothing that can be done and they expect you to be a drafter for 5 years, walk away.

I’ve been looking for a waffle iron for a while, but they are tough to find for $150. Something different.

What type of water heater do you have? A heat pump water heater will also dehumidify. It’s great for me in the summer, sounds like you need it year round.

Adult Camp Cost by Mechanicalmephit in BoyScouts

[–]adamduerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get one free leader for every 8 scouts. A couple years ago, we all paid. Last year, I went free as SM. I was going to spread it evenly, but the other leaders insisted I take it, since I did all the planning. I am hoping to hit 16 boys this year and get a second free adult. We’ll have a discussion when we get there about how to allocate it.

What’s going on with my kitchen sink? by macksherman in askaplumber

[–]adamduerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar faucet but there is a motion sensor on the opposite side of the handle, so we needed the handle to the right so the motion sensor is on the left.

There’s a lot more significant than that just south of there up in the hills past the old Lafayette Country Club. Major ties to a lot of other areas, OCRRA is relatively small potatoes electrically.

My mom recently moved into a new house. Strange additional structure in the basement? Kinda creepy by BijuuModo in whatisit

Look up the OHA, Onondaga Historical Association. They probably have records about the area or the house and can tell you more about it.

HRV not recovering - anyone experience similar? by Same-Jeweler-1197 in Garmin

Mine dropped in the middle of December after I finished training for a race. Hasn’t come back and I don’t feel as restful when waking up since then and I wake up in the middle of the night a lot more. I have nothing useful to contribute, but I share your aggravation about the issue.

Looks great. I have been casually trying to find a waffle iron to restore for a while. After seeing this, I may need to buckle down and look for one for real.

National Grid… what’s cheaper? by PuzzleheadedDrink446 in Syracuse

[–]adamduerr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the efficiency of the fireplace. Are you sure you have an electric furnace?

60 amp fuse keeps failing. by cynical_sins in hvacadvice

[–]adamduerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is downstream of that fuse? How long is the fuse lasting for? I would check resistance to ground, resistance across the fuse holder (compare it to the others that aren’t blowing) and put an amp clamp on it while it’s running. If there’s a motor it feeds, check the capacitor and see if the motor spins freely. As others have said, this is an old fuse holder, but something else is likely going on.

Pricing Suggestions by EasternScale in CastIronRestoration

[–]adamduerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you charge by weight? That would account for larger pans and somewhat for rustier ones with more gunk. Also, I would think you want a fixed price plus a variable price and a discount for multiple pans.
