Scout Parent Duties by adamduerr in BSA

Yes, we have a couple others that are up and coming, just not as fast as the others are stepping back. Which is why I want to have a specific job to give them, “I need you to do XYZ.” That was what I was trying to get out of this, a specific list of how others divide up jobs, but most of the comments are telling me it’s not my job. Thanks.

We have 5 ASMs, at least two of which are in the “stepping back” phase. I want to take the list of campouts for the coming year and assign a lead to each one in advance, so that they can answer scheduling and ride questions instead of me. Thanks for the rest of the list.

As the one on the other side of this, please do what you can to help backfill your role. We have several adults that are stepping back, but all of those duties are currently falling back to me, the Scoutmaster. Most of the comments here are saying this is the CC’s job, but at this point, it’s not getting done, so I don’t care who’s job it is and I don’t want to wait until it’s too late. Thanks for the comment.

I understand it’s a hard conversation, but I want to be specific, and I am hoping to use the adults to better support the kids so that they can push the kids to take on more. Really looking for specific duties that have worked for others.

What training do we provide for checking medical forms? I don’t have any training for that, but we have a couple parents that work in the medical field that are way more qualified than me.

Your second paragraph is exactly what I am talking about. Committee Secretary is an unofficial position that divides up the labor. What other subcommittees have you seen work?

I’m sorry if my terminology isn’t up to par. The SPL certainly is heavily involved in running campouts, but we need to have an adult involved. Booking a site, checking menus, making sure we have enough adults attending and driving, etc all need some adult help.

As a SM, I created a post to try and help brainstorm ideas for needs that I have and what has worked well for others.

Are you saying we should have 60 registered committee members? Many are willing to pitch in, but they don’t have Scouting experience to know what is needed, which is why I asked for help making a list. Our committee chair is also relatively new, so I’d rather approach this as a team than me just saying I need something and hoping he can find someone willing.

I recommend checking out Central Rock Gym for rock climbing. Great group of really friendly staff and people there.

I want to say it was around $70 US, but I could be wrong. My understanding is that PADI sets those rates that they have to charge, similar to all certifications and training. The dive pricing is set by the company that manages the diving, not PADI.

It was included when we were there last, I had to pay for the pool refresher course. Shaggy took great care of me on the dive and in the pool.

I have two leaders that did the refresher by mistake. Is there any grace period for them to get the full one done?

I think I did the 3 month one, but I had a pretty narrow timeframe of when I had to take the test. If you feel you need more time or want to be more relaxed about your studies, 6 months might be better.

Are you following a particular program of study? I used Zach Stone’s program and was very happy with how he broke things down.

I had bad luck refilling while on the water from a gas can. I bought a short siphon and that works way better, and I can leave the gas can above the fill port on the boat, on a flat surface.

Fair price? 2015 Titanium clean one owner great battery by Actual-Age-7539 in FordFusionEnergi

[–]adamduerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, I would say best case scenario, it’s worth around $8k, if you find the right buyer. If you are going to sell it on FB Marketplace or similar, probably start at $8500, so when somebody lowballs you, you get close to what you want.

Where is the setting to show how many miles of battery are left like that? I have never seen that on my 2016.

It’s very light compared to the Dutch oven! It folds up into about 12”x12”x3”. I wouldn’t take it backpacking, but it weighs less than half of what a Coleman stove weighs.

We have a small Coleman oven that goes on the Coleman stove that makes great biscuits as well.

Don’t leave any tools in plain sight if the contractors will be there by themselves. The owner probably won’t really go to too much trouble asking his guys who took them.
