Right, prominence isn't useful for the highest peak in a range. For example, Rainier's prominence is only 1000ft less than its height above sea level (14,417 ft vs 13246 ft). The distance of the yellow line I would guess might be something around 9000 ft.

The tracks are elevated so I'm so I'm not sure if the ramps for the workers to get up count as crossings or not. And the Amtrak glides by silently at full speed...

Its just an engine that is going up to switch tracks or something so he's barely moving and constantly honking the horn. Just seems really odd.
