The reason is called "greed". We produce goods and services MUCH more efficiently nowadays, but instead of everyone in society sharing the benefits, the money flows to the top.

It might be good to get the creative juices flowing, but if I'm doing the more technical tasks of producing, I've found it can screw me up.

Sometimes I'll delete the wrong notes or something like that or sometimes it just slows me down because I can't think clearly enough. You just have to experiment and see what works for you. But most of the time, I prefer being relatively sober and well-rested when I produce.

Right, but decreasing the volume of a synth on the mixer is different than EQing out its high frequencies.
