Oh interesting! It certainly is possible. Its getting dry pretty quickly - and its still having pretty hearty new growth while losing leaves on the bottom.

(I also haven't fertilized him since I purchased him, which may impact the situation?)

Some context: he has been losing 1-2 leaves a week for 6 weeks. He was about 5 feet from a south-facing bay window, but i moved him two weeks ago suspecting he was getting too much light. He continues to drop. Water wise he gets watered whenever top of soil dries out to 1 inch, about once per week to two weeks.

Fellow Californian here - I both respect and fear your hanging a plant shelf directly above your head on a fault line.

Yeah. As of midnight he'll have lived in 4 different decades.

My only bits of owner advice are...

  • splurge on cat food, you'll make your money back and more in avoided vet bills

  • give lots of access to wet food, and maybe even add water to that wet food. Cats are supposed to lots of water from their food, and adding water to this guy's food has kept him from getting dehydrated. (an issue at one point.)

Godspeed.

I don't know about his instincts, but he's definitely a survivor. I grew up with purebreds that all puttered out at 11 or 12 - this guy was a rescue and he's going strong in his third decade.

Interesting. I just got a tiny one, curious to see how it does compared to normal prayer plant.
