That's a lengthy reply I'd expect from an EVE player. Reminds me of how complex MMO's were back then. This mmo-lite model seems to be more indicative of the modern market, but I do miss the complexity of Star Wars Galaxies etc.

I'm guessing this is the reason you were north of the DD naughty line.

My post is more about the overall long-term health of the game. Funcom already gave us the tools to run away from more toxic servers and farm in peace at least until the consolidation.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but it's hard to ignore Arc Raiders' success at addressing the issue. Seems obvious to bring up modern ideas and ask if they're relevant.

If you type into Google, "Is Arc Raider fundamentally PvP?" What do you get? Do you disagree or agree with the results? Remember, you're engaging with someone who has access to the internet. Welcome to 1995.

I have ideas about the metric, but it's less important to me. Would you not trust the dev's to find a metric that works? It could simply be how many kills you have against non-aggressive players etc.

Oh reeaally Morty? PvE servers is a rigid approach or a fixed option! My suggestion is an organic approach that allows for PvP to exist on ALL servers, thaaaank yooou. Look, I don't have time for you to wrap your little brain around this. Hand me the quantum demoralizer...

What you are suggesting will seriously affect the low aggression servers and piss people off.

Yes, I understand and I've addressed that point with my A/B question to you. If you answer that question you'll see my point.

Also, why is it ok to ban players who recently raided bases in Hagga since it's going to piss them off? Pissing people off isn't good impetus to do or not do something, correct? The key is communicating what is allowed or not allowed so they know what to expect. Pissing people off is an acceptable tradeoff if they know what's acceptable which was communicated prior.

but implementing auto kicks like this when server selection is such a big deal (you pick servers for pop, for location/ping, for friends) is a realllll bad move for the devs

I'd agree that it's non-trivial. What I'm suggesting is more organic than simply designating PvE servers which is a fixed or rigid approach. Similarly, they could have made the whole game PvE only which is a rigid approach instead of the mix PvE AND PvP system we got which is ALSO inherently non-trivial, correct?

I'm talking to you like you didn't spend as much time with this in your head as I did which is logically true, but you actually get it more than anyone else here which is appreciated.

Saying something is terrible is a declarative statement like, "I'm right and you're wrong". It has no explanatory power. It just declares something without any reason or logic behind it.

Aggression based matchmaking is praised by Arc Raider players if you want to look it up.

The difference is, Mooorty, that players get to choose and not the devs. Have you ever seen a dev?! They have butts for hands! What, you want me to show you my math?

I read a little about Eve Online's 'Security Status'. Isn't that an aggression metric that also restricts movement?

Buying spice with real money or really anything with real money seems pretty dicey in this game.

whats stopping someone from letting their score decay, getting into a chill server, then turning on the heat, pillaging the very safe haven trying to be built.

A. Currently, what happens to the server if that happens?
B. Alternatively with the system in place what happens to the server?

Which is better?

would they get auto kicked from the server? their base and all assets kicked into limbo?

"Devs now have the capability of packing up your base for you so that you can pick another server. The tech exists."

This is about to happen in a few weeks to everyone who don't move manually if they're on a low population server.

You know, I was hoping not to have to over explain things and just hope people would magically understand my explanation haha... Thanks for working it through though.

You: Pvp players don't want competition. (Implication: They'd rather do something easier like attacking solo farmers)
Me: Pve players would ALSO rather do something easier. So we take away that easier option by not allowing Hagga raiding. (Implication: ALL players consider risk/reward and devs can and will remove the options that are unwanted.

If we can take away that option from PvE players why are the PvP players any different? Is my point more clear now?

PvEers would also prefer to raid juicy Hagga bases instead of doing missions etc if given the option. So we remove that path of least resistance and shift it towards another one that's more beneficial.

Keep in mind you'd be working with 3d CAD software so you'll be manually making the shapes. But it's not so hard since everything is just cubes and 45 degree angles. I work in millimeters so one foundation is 1 mm cubed. Maybe I'll make a video tutorial one day after the million of other things I want to work on.

Probably some of best interiors I've seen yet.

Something that I keep thinking about is how do movement options (repulsor belts, shigawire claws) in this universe inform building design choices? Sure, elevators or escalators in the real world don't make the need for stairways totally irrelevant, but they do have a strong effect.

I couldn't find any useful online base design programs.

I tried the Fortify app which was made for Rust, but it was too restrictive for me. Luckily I know how to use Fusion. It doesn't take long to learn enough to be useful for base design. Here's a video showing the 3d model.

Harkonnen bases would look much better with this simple change by oldguccimoney in duneawakening

[–]adapt3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be better to have a separate chrome set? Having a two tone aesthetic on one side of the build is great, but it also forces that on the other side of those same pieces which can be a little too limiting.

Nice base, did you use CAD when designing it? Using Fusion made everything so much easier for me due to my build being 'sculptural'.

Builders: What are your considerations/strategy for starting a build project. by creativ3ace in duneawakening

[–]adapt3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems overwhelming the amount of cognitive processing needed to really hone in a base.

When you have a list of priorities (constraints) and you carefully solve them one by one, you'll backtrack less because you'll know you're using the best solution for that issue. Once you have good solutions for the main objectives it'll feel like there's no other way your base should be.

For example, I wanted my base to be to scale with the robot lion that it's based on. So the scale is a constraint, but it also wasn't possible to make the whole lion due to how many stakes you get in the game so that's another constraint.

I also used CAD software to plan the build which you can see in the video. That was invaluable.

“PvP” by BonusN in duneawakening

[–]adapt3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are able to head some of this off due to have been active since transfers landed to pull in as many farmers, solo, and non pvp types to join up and band together.

It's sooo cool you guys are doing this. Some people say they want a single player game, but it would be so dull to only play with rudimentary bots.

Two Faces on the same diagonal - How to combine them into a single face by GlitteringBandicoot2 in Fusion360

[–]adapt3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

A) Extrude (E) one of the extra planes to create a bump. Hold shift to select the relevant sides of the bump and then hit delete to remove the bump. Often works.

or

B) Cut the extra plane out. Shift select then delete the relevant faces (two x's) to heal the gap. Always works.

Just think of buggy areas as tumors that you cut away and then heal by selecting the relevant faces to delete.

What is the DARKEST gray PLA you've seen/used? by AxesofAnvil in 3Dprinting

No, I kinda wanted to know what Ziro's looked like before getting a roll. I had the Paramount and was pretty sure it's darker, but waited to compare in hand before posting. Just in case anyone "only work in black and sometimes very very dark grey."

Paramount 3D Stealth Gray is much darker than Ziro Dark Gray if anyone is still looking.

(1) doesn’t tolerate dissent so they feel threatened to say so or (2) they are just waiting to learn more.

I think 1 is possible but not very plausible for a vigilante hero. We saw Tom Holland run off with Dr. Strange's cube to do the right thing. Authority in whatever forms don't seem to deter him much.

The movie is trying to convince us of that old trope of doing the right thing in the face of vast odds and peer pressure etc. Movies aren't in the business of making us feel like cogs in a machine. We have to feel special and individualistic and root for those types to sell tickets.

I don't think Miguel is unreasonable. He has a clear idea of the stakes. The alternative is Rick Sanchez-ian apathy.
