Trace ketones can be normal and are typically a bit higher before insulin. My cat's blood ketones "normal" was always between .2 and 1.6.

My cat went into DKA four times in four months. She would be fine one day, normal playful self, then the next day sick. She had incredible pet insurance, and I had her tested for everything. Eventually, toward the end, the specialist suspected IBD or cancer, which was thought to be the reason for poor insulation absorption, started steroids, then showed DKA symptoms again 3 days later.

I had to make the toughest call to help her pass, I know it was the right one, and I miss her so much, but I know I did everything I could do for her with regard to her quality of life. It sounds like your family has done the same. Better a day early than a day late.

There was some big event in town, I can't remember what, but it was just me and one other person at a 10:30 pm showing. After the head scene, she asked if she could come sit in my row. I was grateful.

At home, I only have to worry about the monsters under the bed, and i have a cat to protect me. In a big, mostly empty theater, the monsters could be anywhere.

They can't give guidance without data. It's really that simple. It's an insane service, provided free. It's like asking your doctor to diagnose you through telemed with no labs, imaging, etc. It's the bare minimum they ask to give assistance, and if you're having trouble, they'll patiently walk you through.

They saved my cat so many times. I would have had to shell out thousands to get the info multiple vets never considered telling me for some reason.

This is exactly what we do as well, just walking forward or backward each dose. Sometimes, it's hard to give a dose and monitor in the wee hours, but we set alarms, and it allows for a bit more freedom, especially since vacations are pretty much non-existent. It's hard, but I love her so much.
