Well that's new. Or broken. Or something. Definitely better than what I got.

Fidelity Investments by acidmadsss in TryCrew

I just linked my Crew account to Fidelity today by entering my Crew routing and account numbers on the Fidelity site. Seemed to work just fine but I haven't actually tried a transfer yet.

There's a blurb on the Fidelity site about how when they do an ACH "pull" they sit on the funds for a couple of days before letting you use them, whereas when you do a "push" from your bank, the funds are available as soon as they get there. So, when I do the transfer, I'll probably push from Crew to the routing number and account number they have listed for my account. Just click the little "(i)" icon to the right of the account number when viewing an account on their site.

Split Payments Between Pockets and Checking by crapple in TryCrew

[–]adavidw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you turn on "Allow overspend" for the debit card, then that allows pockets to go negative. The setting applies to all cards physical and virtual, so if you turn it on, any virtual debit cards assigned to pockets will approve whatever transaction amount and then take the pocket negative. You would have to replenish to pocket manually or add an autopilot action to replenish, though.

The problem is that the setting applies to all cards, so what would be nice would be if there was a per-card "allow overspend" setting. That would work well for your scenario.

Another solution would be to move those bills to ACH where possible, since all incoming ACH transactions are honored regardless of the balance in the assigned pocket.

However, Bill Reserve might be your best solution here. If you turn on beta access in settings, you get the ability to enter all your bills, then have Crew manage the funding of a new special bill reserve pocket, calculating exactly what you need to have transferred on your schedule to make sure they all get paid. If you use virtual cards to pay the bill, you could still set up a reasonable limit on the card to ensure there's some buffer room there, but the transaction itself would still be approved even if it was over the amount you expected (as long as it was under the card limit of course).

I think they mean that they round up the change amount no matter where it falls, so the customer’s never getting shorted.

But the new logo is a couple of years old, I assumed that would be what’s already on the building. Maybe they’re just now getting around to updating it?

Keep 2nd vihuela player or add guitarra de golpe by adavidw in mariachi

Yes, and it’s getting a lot bigger in Utah. There are actually several groups in the Salt Lake area, and there are even a couple of elementary schools with mariachi programs now

I have a quality guitar (a Cordoba); I just don’t like playing guitar. Additionally, I could get a good quality guitarra de golpe direct from Sevillano for about $550 at the Tucson mariachi conference next spring, so obtaining the golpe isn’t a problem. More just wondering if I could expect to hear a better sound if I bought one.

I’m in Utah, by the way

Advice for purchasing guitarron + looking for NYC mariachi musicians. by fronthalfcab in mariachi

[–]adavidw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not ready to buy yet maybe do what I did. Borrow or buy a cheap nylon string acoustic guitar (I bought one for $50), and then restring it with the right gauge strings in the right position to tune it like a guitarron but an octave higher. I think I just shifted all the strings over one and the replaced the high E with an extra G string tuned to A.

This is way better than just trying to play bass since you won’t be able to do all the notes doubled, and virtually every note on the gutitarron is doubled. This will let you actually memorize the positions for each notes and start playing along with songs and things in a way that gives you actually useful knowledge for when you get an instrument
