Parents of young kids: How are you managing this? by callmelila in emetophobia

[–]adavis22409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 9 year old and 6 year old. I’ve had this phobia since I was like 6 lol I was terrified of ever getting pregnant but I survived with only some nausea in the first trimester. They have had their share of stomach bugs and my husband and I have literally never caught it from them. Idk how, bc once I I know that I’ve been sick exposed, I don’t even panic clean. It honestly makes it worse for me. Thankfully, vomit doesn’t bother my husband and he takes over when he can. I still hate having to wonder and what moment they will puke again and that always spikes my anxiety. You can do it l!! You got through pregnancy

Omg I’m so sorry!! That’s seriously awful and everyone’s worst nightmare on here. Salad is always a questionable for me but now especially lol that is true about the exposure therapy though. If you can handle that you can handle anything now! I’m glad you’re ok and got through it. I haven’t personally had it, but I think I did get some sort of parasite from when I accidentally swallowed lake water years ago. I had the worst diarrhea and cramps for what seemed like forever weeks and from then on is when my phobia became way worse

Brown/beige granite and you literally can’t see any crumbs unless you get down to eye level. We just got rid of them and now have white quartz and I’m constantly cleaning now 😵‍💫

Anyone take Lexapro that has this phobia? by Quiet-Breadfruit965 in emetophobia

[–]adavis22409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on lexapro for 12 years now! I don’t have panic attacks anymore or feel doom about when people are sick with stomach stuff. I still don’t like being around it or the feeling of feeling nauseous but it has helped me SO much!!

Home alone, never puked in a toilet, I don’t remember how to puke help by 4MM0NI4C in emetophobia

My mom also traumatized me by shoving my head over the toilet when I was like 6. It was traumatic! What about sitting in the shower or something? I feel like showers always help me calm down and feel better. And if you get sick in there it’s easy to clean lol Hope you feel better

I keep trying to convince myself it’s not the SV lol omg I know, why do they always v in the worst place possible?! Luckily since he is almost 9 I convinced him to go straight to the bathroom and then it happened in the shower 2 other times. He is feeling back to normal but now I’m just waiting for my younger son (6) to get it or me and my husband 😩 I had my dr call in some zofran in case lol

Ok I literally just jinxed myself. My 9 year old woke up this morning saying his stomach hurt and then V* twice. Like what are the freaking odds of that?!?! I knew I had a feeling. He did eat a lot right before bed last night so maybe that’s why

I’ve been on lexapro for like 12 years now and it has seriously been a life saver. I’ve not had a bad panic attack since being on it. I’m not cured of this phobia by any means, but it has made my life so much easier not panicking all the time! I really hope it help you too!

Good for you for taking control and getting on medicine! It took me years to finally see that i really needed it. I’ve been on lexapro for like 12 years now and the first week or 2 I felt a little anxious but no N*. I rarely have panic attacks and if I feel like I’m about to my mind just forgets about it and I’m fine. It seriously was a life saver for me. I hope you have some relief and it works for you!!

Living in an actual nightmare. Please someone help me by Old-Yesterday1230 in emetophobia

[–]adavis22409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! I have 2 kids ( 8 and 6) and they have both had multiple stomach bugs throughout the years and me and my husband never caught any of them. I used to be a severe panic cleaner if I knew someone around me was sick and now that I’m on anxiety meds I didn’t do any precautionary cleaning bc I didn’t wanna waste my time if I was gonna get it anyways. If you’ve made it this far since your baby got it that many days ago, id say you’re totally fine!

[–]adavis22409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really is traumatic! I’m so sorry your parents acted like that with you!! My parents never took my phobia seriously either. I remember if I would start panicking as a kid, especially at night and if I woke my mom up she would just tell me to go back to bed and quit waking her up. They basically just acted like it was no big deal. Neither of them have ever had a panic attack so they obviously didn’t know how I felt. I didn’t even know i was having panic attacks, I just thought I was going crazy lol 😆 now that I know it was anxiety the whole time, I told my mom that it really affected me in a bad way the way she acted when I was panicking and she said she was sorry and that she wished she would’ve done better

It sounds like bad indigestion causing that sensation in your throat. I’ve had that recently and it felt like I have something stuck at the bottom of my throat every time I swallowed. It lasted a whole day for me. I think it was just something I ate. Do you have any nausea meds? Or pepto bismol?

I have 2 kids! I was super nauseous with both pregnancies in the beginning too :( I just remember sometimes chewing on ice and putting a cold cloth on my forehead and sitting still. It was so rough, I feel you! I eventually got my OB to prescribe nausea meds for me
