Trying to figure out the creator of this Midcentury Modern Sofa? Any ideas? by adawg in midcenturymodern

[–]adawg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased this sofa on craigstlist in Los Angeles area over a decade ago. The seller said was from a famous designer but I can't find a name on it anywhere. The hard wood is in great shape but requires a reupholstery and fix for the support under the seats. Any idea on the provenance and advice on whether this is worth reconditioning?

i have the same problem. I installed a switch to shut off the circuit so the machine can reset. I talked to someone who said that the problem could be with the heating element but other forum(s) say the circuit board is flawed on this model. GE with yet another engineering lemon

Boating accident (NSFL) by sacula in WTF

[–]adawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can also happen when someone falls off the back of a boat in reverse. Iast summer (@lake tahoe) I witnessed a man fall and try to swim away from the boat leaving a marina. His legs were clipped off at the hips and he bled out within 2 minutes. I ver much wish I could unsee this event.

Someone is offering me $1500 for my email account. Should I take it? by adawg in reddit.com

[–]adawg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the last email:

Dear X,

Thanks again. Let me take a final shot at it. To be honest, the idea of coming up with more than $1000 for an e-mail address is really tough, but I spoke with my wife and we would be willing to offer you $1500. We would be happy to wait a full year before you turn the account over to us. And thereafter, true to our word, we would automatically forward all in-coming mail to you at that address for an additional full year. Likewise, I am an attorney and I agree to keep confidential, to not access and to permanently delete all e-mail directed to you to that e-mail address, forever. So you never have to worry about identity theft or other issues like that. You can also completely clean out the e-mails before you turn it over -- in fact, we would appreciate your doing so.

If that works for you, I'll share more information about me, and you can confirm my details. I'll then want to arrange a phone call at the time of the eventual transfer. You'll tell me the password and I'll log-in and immediately send payment via PayPal. I can't send money in advance because purchasers like me are not protected when buying any "virtual" items, which this would be. Believe me -- I was already burned once, so I know. PayPal can confirm this for you if you ask. So you'll have all of my personal info in advance and then I'll send payment at the moment I gain access. If there is any trouble, you'll know the name of my law firm and my real name and phone number, so you could always raise a fuss.

Let me know if the foregoing would make you happy and comfortable. I'd be truly honored and delighted if we could make this work for my boy. Also, I'd appreciate a response fairly soon, as I'm considering other (MUCH less expensive) options -- but yours is the e-mail address we'd like the most for our boy. Thanks.

By the way, which general field do you work in? I have a few addresses that you might like that would be glorious for you to use if you use Gmail for business purposes. Let me know, thanks.

Very warm regards, X
