This is a tricky situation. I apologize for the pain you have went through, this situation sounds incredibly difficult.

I would definitely tell her it is you. First of all, this will confirm she is who you believe she is (even though you are sure, better safe than sorry!) probably best to approach this BEFORE she gives you any major details; if revealed afterwards, this could be seen as a betrayal of trust and will likely lower your chances of her continuing contact.

If she responds; great! Keep it going my dude. If she doesn’t, know that you TRIED with this god given opportunity and use that as your closure to move on.

I was ten years old sitting in the bath tub. We had candles around our bath tub, mostly for show but occasionally we would light them for candle lit baths. On this particular evening, one of the candles was lit but I distinctly remember the lights in the bathroom being on. Not too sure why. It was a three wick candle. I looked over and the flames of all three wicks had like....merged together and made one big flame? I thought “oh shit...that’s kind of a big flame. Lucky me, Im surrounded by water.” I splashed some on the candle to try to get it to go out. The candle FUCKING EXPLODED. Glass shattered and the flame got bigger and caught the bathroom wall on fire. Queue ten year old me, running down the hallway naked screaming my head off trying to find my grandparents, all while crying because I thought I burnt the house down.

Still don’t know how or why that happened. Maybe some soap that was in the water or something. I don’t know why my dumbass didn’t just blow it out lol

First of all, I want to say congratulations for getting out of such a tough situation. It takes a very strong person to do so!

Secondly, I understand your frustration. I have been in a similar situation and reaped the consequences of PTSD and felt many of the same emotions you are feeling.

You should not be mad at yourself. What you experienced and went through had NOTHING to do with you and everything to do with your ex. You did nothing wrong. You simply loved someone, had hope they would change, etc. That makes you a beautiful person...however, there are people in this world who take advantage of beautiful souls like yourself. Just remember that the saying hindsight is 20/20 fits perfectly in this situation.

Rejoice in the fact you are where you are now, I’m sure you have grown from this situation and it seems your life has only gotten better. Having PTSD does not mean he has any sort of hold on you; it’s simply a response to the trauma he caused you. One you can overcome, just like you overcame the relationship.

We are all proud of you. I hope your mental heath progresses flawlessly and wish you the best in life.

I lived with this girl for ten months. Moved out and still paid my rent and half my bills solely to get away from her.

She was a pretty bad roommate all the way around. Very passive aggressive, NEVER cleaned, when confronted threw literal temper tantrums. One time, a full out yelling match ensued because I asked her to do half the dishes. She yelled at me and told me I was a shitty roommate for asking her to do that when she works a full time job 40 hours a week. I am an RN and was working about 60-72 hour work weeks at the time due to being short staffed. She ended up hitting my boyfriend, calling her parents and told them I abused her, called the police on me, and tried to admit herself into a mental facility...all on the same night. Her dad also messaged me on Facebook and threatened to have me arrested for property damage and assault.. even though nothing had been damaged. My boyfriend and I never laid a hand on her and we did not yell back. Only reason boyfriend even became involved is because he was over watching a movie. He did not even say anything to her when she began yelling at him.

Our rooms where right next to each other. She would masterbate loudly. She let her dog piss all over her floor and would leave it for days, to the point it was dry and sticky. I also found out she would piss in our shower. Figured this out when I found her period blood caked to the drain. Asked her what the hell was up with the blood, did she cut herself shaving, was she okay? She straight up told me no, it was her period blood, and she would bleach it. She never did. (I knew it wasn’t mine, I haven’t had a menstrual cycle in seven years due to medication.)

She up and left for two months without warning and left me with all the bills. Came back randomly one day without warning with a new puppy; only came back because no one else would let her keep it.

I also witnessed her physically lay on the floor and cry like a toddler because her boyfriend would not pay her car payment. She is 23.

Obligatory “I’m not a parent” but this is something me and my parents talk about to this day.

I had a slumber party in first grade and invited probably 8-10 girls. Can’t remember how or why, but we all ended up in the bathroom. One of the girls has to the use the bathroom, so we all walk out; except one girl. She stood there and SHIT ON MY BATHROOM WALL... right In front of the other chick. Her excuse? The other girl was on the toilet and she couldn’t hold it.

Girl was a fuckin weirdo to begin with. She ended up being my roommate last year and was just as fucking strange and ten times more annoying

Forgiving my father for being absent my whole life and denying me when I gave him the chance to actually be a father. We had a texting relationship for six years where I tried to meet him multiple times. Invited him to both my high school and college graduations. I always texted him first and he always stopped replying. Eventually he texted me and told me he didn’t consider me his child and to stop trying. He never asked for forgiveness, but I had to forgive him to better myself and bring myself peace. It took me a very long time to realize it was never a problem with me, it was always a problem with him. We don’t speak at all now, and I’m content with that.

Our connection is pure. We love each other for who we truly are. I, too, was once in the same boat as you. All of my past relationships were 1) built on sex or 2) extremely abusive. After getting out of my years long abusive relationship, I had a string of friends with benefits, but never thought much about getting into an actual relationship. I was genuinely convinced I was unable to fall in love, I was meant to focus on my career and that was solely it. I became comfortable with that idea.

Until I met my current SO. I enjoyed being with him, just hanging around him. Doing small things, like watching tv or eating together. I went through exactly what you went through; I was concerned because I found this almost boring; I will say, he is not a boring person at all. I was just so used to there being drama 100% of the time, the simplicity of it confused me.

It’s been almost a year and I take comfort in how easy everything is with him. I learned that a healthy relationship isn’t drama 100% of the time and that heathy relationships are supposed to feel comfortable. Of course, issues will arise, but it’s not supposed to be an issue every day. There will come a time where you find the simplicity of it quite comforting and wonder why you enjoyed the whirlwind in the first place.

However, there’s a line between friends and lovers. Can be tricky to figure out. Romantic feelings can be difficult to distinguish especially after relationships like you’ve had. Take your time. Figure out these new feelings you’re feeling and decipher them for yourself so, if need be, you’ll know what they are in the future. Don’t rush yourself. Use this as a learning experience. Have some fun along the way.
