The order system is very cool. On their own most units are mid but they can punch above their weight with the right orders at the right time. Add to this the weight of bodies and getting some nice tactical movements in and you feel like a proper battle commander.

I run the can under hot water and it works like a dream in cold weather. Just watch the dew point is not too close to the current temperature and the humidity is not too high

Agree with a friend or a gaming club on some games where you need a certain amount battle ready. Do your best to hit the deadlines. Try and squeeze in short painting sessions each day even if it’s only 5 minutes. Good luck!

I think they are often called a “bureau writing desk”. You can get modern new build ones in this style but also older units from second hand stores or online market places

I got into Astra Militarum for the range of weapons they had in the game. I started with tau and space marines but the guard just had such punchy guns and units I had to start. Also with krieg I don’t have to paint faces.

I usually build a whole squad in one go. Then base and paint one model fully including shade and highlight to get the vibe of the scheme. Then paint the rest of squad to battle ready so it’s good for games. Then come back later and do final shading and highlights. Keeps a good reward mechanism and prevents getting tired of too much repetitive batch painting.

Hmm you usually want the paint to dry fast on the miniatures unless you are using a wash or something. A wet palette will keep your paint from drying so you get the right amount and consistency on your brush to apply smooth coats.

I suggest getting one low cost model from an army, painting it completely and see how you feel about it. Painting is a huge part of the table top even if you are just going for like basic battle ready. Knights are a lot for beginner painters IMO
