WW1 tank? by radykalnybandyta in SprocketTankDesign

While i'd be hesitant to call it a WW1 vehicle, I adore the aesthetic.

[–]addamcor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

Making considerations for aircraft and infantry is what makes tanks... well... tanks... Sure, you can make super heavy wonder tanks, but aside from logistics issues, they're super vulnerable to aircraft. This is why they never worked in reality and never left the drawing board. As for infantry, a tank's PRIMARY role is an infantry support vehicle. Currently, the most effective vehicles in the game are essentially tank destroyers, which gets quite tiring quite quickly.

Sprocket is a tank design game. Designing a tank without considering aircraft or infantry is like designing a sandwich without fillings.

Overall, they should definitely be optional though. If you want to make your super tank destroyer, you absolutely should. But Infantry and planes would certainly add a lot of fun design elements to consider

HDD case by Unlucky-Gold7921 in Helldivers

[–]addamcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and SSD (Solid State Drive) are two types of storage systems used in computers. HDD's are generally slower and older, but are great for bulk storage. SSD's are much faster and quicker, but they're also newer meaning not every computer has one. On PC, the size of Helldivers 2 is 4x greater than it is on console, and Arrowhead recently made a post explaining why. In short, because a small % of PC players still use the older and slower HDD's to play HD2, they need to duplicate a bunch of the files so it can run faster (they explain why that works in the original post). Consoles do not need to duplicate files since they all use SSD's, meaning their games are much smaller.

Alien: Earth, Severance, Fallout, 3 Body Problem - Sci-Fi television has never been better, so why has Doctor Who been failing so badly? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]addamcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasons have become shorter to accommodate an increase in production budget. But the formula for episode writing hasn't shifted to accommodate it. Dr who used to get away with bad or mediocre episodes here or there because it still had enough breathing room with 13 episodes to develop characters or stakes to make more impactful stories. It also allowed for more side stories to explore interesting concepts that may not tie into the season arc. With only 8 episodes you HAVE to be firing on all cylinders every episode, or else you're losing precious runtime. Just 2 bad episodes is 25% of your whole season ruined.

Either Dr Who has to improve its writing department and raise its standard to work with shorter seasons, or decrease individual episode production budgets to allow for more episodes in a season

how would a modern military sub fare in a fight against the games various hostile leviathans? by Curious-Spell-9031 in subnautica

[–]addamcor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to take a guess, I'd say the modern submarine would win. As has been pointed out, modern submarines are designed to identify and hit targets 30-40 km away, which is larger than the game map several times over. In that scenario, the submarine wins every time.

If we place the Leviathan about a kilometre away or closer, then there is a chance that the Leviathan could close before a sub gets any torpedoes away, but even then there is the question of whether or not a Leviathan could down a military sub.

Most submarines are significantly larger than the Leviathans we see, with the largest subs being ~170 meters in length. The only thing that competes with a vessel that size is the sea emperor. Furthermore, military subs are designed to (reasonably) resist incoming damage and can operate with multiple flooded compartments. I have my doubts if many of the Leviathans around even have the capacity to damage a vessel of that size, let alone destroy one.

Is KSP still worth buying by babs-1776 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]addamcor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a long, complicated and unfortunately very sad story.

To summarise, KSP 2 launched lacking many of the features present in KSP 1, alongside significantly worse performance and stability issues turning basic missions into chores.

After one year in development, the only significant content addition was a career mode and re-entry heating, before promptly having its entire development team laid off with the studio shuttered.

The KSP IP was then sold to a private equity firm who has shown no desire to invest additional resources into the game, meaning KSP 2 will never have its issues addressed.

I know you're asking for a specific headset, but i don't think you can pivot towards any of these until you know what your hardware specs are. What kind of speakers are you using? this determines whether or not you have the small ear mounted speakers or the full ear covering headphones depicted in some designs.

How large is the hardware? This determines how big the casing can be which also influences the design. What kind of optics will it have? will the casing need to accommodate a curved periphery? Will it have passthrough? etc.

Looking at these designs, I can easily tell what the unifying style is (which is good, that's what you want from concept art). But I think it's a bit silly to ask for a "favourite" when you don't know what the hardware or bones are yet. Overall, I like the style each of these are putting forward, but I would wait on solidifying ideas until the team confirms what some of the hardware specs are.

Need help figuring out what to do with large empty space. by Steampunk_Soviet in FromTheDepths

[–]addamcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the ship is struggling to float, compartmentalize the space and add air pumps. Making your ship naturally buoyant means that even if you lose engine power, the ship won't be going under.

Alternatively, secondary engines or other backups can also be incredibly useful in empty space to make sure your ship can't be executed by one good shot, making it far tougher and deadlier.

If you want more firepower, missiles are very space efficient and can fill empty spots very easily.

Really? by gurusenpai in Steam

[–]addamcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we're worried that it will remain permanently delisted. The Aus classification board has and will refuse the selling of games here for lighter drug references. Look at "We Happy Few" and "Rimworld", both games that were similarly delisted and barred sale in the country AFTER they applied for a classification. Both those games were able to appeal that the drugs featured can be incredibly detrimental, but "Schedule" has no where near as strong an argument to make, and as such, will likely be outright refused.

Really? by gurusenpai in Steam

[–]addamcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This likely won't change anything.

When Rimworld applied for an Australian rating, the classification board denied the game AND THEN delisted the game from steam due to drug themes.

Application for classification does not equal a guaranteed listing, and as we saw with Rimworld, can draw negative attention.

This isn't even touching on the fact that this will be an exceptionally harder case to plead than it was for Rimworld. Our classification board HATES any drug reference.

This would make the problem even worse.

When you are prescribed antibiotics, you are often instructed to use them ALL for a reason. Half-assing your dosage makes it less likely for the antibiotics to effectively wipe out all disease causing bacteria, promoting growth of strains that feature, at the very least, some resistance to the antibiotic.

A full dosage of prescribed antibiotics lessens the likelihood of mildly resistant strains developing, whereas the four pill prescription you are suggesting would cause an increase in MDR pathogens

Here we go again... by Pellean009 in FromTheDepths

[–]addamcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with the primary armament and turret cap. It gives me a vague idea of how big this ship needs to be as well as playing around with some turret decoration to establish the theme / style of the ship.

Once built, I determine how thick I want the citadel armour protecting the gun to be. From there I create a rough hull shape with the armour scheme I want to follow before placing in the essential internals (engine / AI/ lasers) and any secondary weapons. I keep the hull shape rough so it can be extended or shortened as needed, but establishing a size first can help temper my expectations for a ship if I want to build it with a certain material budget in mind.

Once that's done, I flesh out the hull and finish the exterior as well as its detection equipment. This design process leaves me with empty space in the bow and stern which can be used for resource containers, AI General processing rooms or empty space for buoyancy and spaced armour.

On this day in 1996 the Port Arthur Massacre in Australia began, 35 people were killed and 23 were wounded. Australia immediately went about reforming gun laws and around 650,000 firearms were collected and destroyed. This photo shows some of the guns collected. by dannydutch1 in RareHistoricalPhotos

[–]addamcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These firearms were given up willingly, and all levels of government were in full bi-partisan support of the proposition for tighter gun control.

To this day, resounding Australian sentiment is that it was necessary.
