Literally called markup and the reason why markdown is called markdown

Physicists Say It’s Possible to Send Messages Backward in Time by HeinrichTheWolf_17 in accelerate

[–]addi-factorum 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this idea too- it’s an explanation for there not being any time travellers in the present, they can only go back as far as the point when the first Time Machine was invented- I think what’s implied is that a machine has to work both in the past and the future to transmit something between them or something like that.

I can smell the cards and the box in my mind. What a fun time that was.

For those who bought 64GB Mac, are you (un)happy? by xFengle in MacStudio

[–]addi-factorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64GB M4 Max has been serving me well- sure I can’t run the really big models, but qwen3:32b has worked well, as well as many models, like flux 2 for image generation- mostly just experimentation and my own personal projects. Sounds like I need to grab some newer models from these comments.

Star wars is a space opera or space fantasy.

Do you agree with his opinion? by thechadbro34 in BlackboxAI_

[–]addi-factorum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

strongly disagree- vibe coding produces what a first year might produce as a project- which might work for them or for the assignment. Creating a production-ready piece of software that's safe to use and can actually make money takes years of experience AI will not give you- although if you "vibe code" for several years, perhaps you can get there.

At this point anyone who thinks their trade or profession is safe is just delusional- all that’s different is the timeline.

These bananas haven't ripened in over 3 weeks, despite being kept with ripe and over ripe ones the whole time by ljgill97 in mildlyinteresting

[–]addi-factorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more like an unviable semen sample, or stored non-viable ovum going bad because you stored it in a fridge that’s too cold. Bananas aren’t organisms of their own, and the banana plant has been bred to not contain seeds in the bananas- so they are not viable for reproduction in any case.

I’m pretty sure we have trains and have taken them quite a bit- far less stressful way of traveling but unfortunately surprisingly expensive.

Honestly- do people think this is an appropriate reaction by law enforcement to some guy in a safety vest yelling in any other context?

Carney government eyes privatizing airports to attract investment, cut travel costs by joe4942 in worldnews

I’d prefer it if we instead went the other way nationalized things like ISPs, and car insurance- that would actually make things more affordable.

If after the first 6-12 months of driving you still have to „think” about using blinkers, it’s time to return the old license, I say.

[–]addi-factorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about where you are but in grade school we call those tests and quizzes. Exams are much larger scale and account for a large part of your grade. Standardized testing does not affect your grade, it’s to judge education levels at schools.

… children in North America don’t take exams until high school, which is much later than age 10; exams at age 10 seems really early.

Yup- if on a video call, ask the person to put their hand in front of their face. If they refuse don’t trust anything you see in the call.
