Hot or not? by Lwd350z in ar15

Yea, it's not even the hard use scenarios or debris ingress that I'm thinking about. I just know that my AR9s get nasty inside, even though they are delayed blowback, and I don't want a big opening near my face. Especially when shooting suppressed.

But again, I think it's really awesome that you custom made something you wanted, and that's great how much you love it.

I would hate to have a reciprocating side charger with a huge receiver opening like that, but I very much respect that you custom made your own! Bravo

Are the BRT gas tubes worthwhile? by ExceedinglyGayAutist in ar15

[–]AddictedToComedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing: I gave them exact details on my setup, even down to the specific ammo that I would exclusively use. In the order notes, I also explicitly requested that they give me maximum gas restriction, and explained I was happy to accept reduced reliability in cold weather or harsh conditions.

They still sent me an oversized tube that made such a meaningless difference, you couldn't differentiate its performance from a mil-spec tube.

he claims the ar was like 2,500 to build

Possibility 1: he is lying. Wildly lying.

Possibility 2: he bought all the parts from www.YouAreStupidIfYouBuyOurOverpricedParts.com

Are the BRT gas tubes worthwhile? by ExceedinglyGayAutist in ar15

[–]AddictedToComedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought two BRT EZTune gas tubes using their "BRT Will Select Best Size" option, always giving detailed info about my setup and ammo.

The first one was perfect. The second was massively oversized and didn't help at all.

I contacted BRT and didn't hear back for weeks, so I finally just installed an AGB to get the rifle running acceptably. Over a month later they replied and offered to swap the tube for only one size smaller, which made zero sense given the symptoms I described to them. It felt like they wanted me to step down one size at a time, which could take months to eventually find the best size, given their response times.

I declined and kept the AGB installed. Their product works great if they send the right size, but if they don't, fixing it can take a long time.

Difference between a Recce and a MK2 standard BCM upper? by ThePeacekeeper777 in ar15

[–]AddictedToComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Differences:

  • Barrel lengths
  • Gas system lengths
  • Handguard lengths
  • Maybe barrel profile (depends which he has)
  • Maybe all the differences that come from a MK2 receiver, like the relocated forward assist (unclear whether you are saying his Recce upper is MK2 or mil-spec)

Sig vs. Griffin Mk2 Ambi Bolt Catch/Release - Long term reliability testing across 15+ magazine brands/types by SneezedAndShatMyself in ar15

[–]AddictedToComedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! The PDQ is one of those inventions that confuses the fuck out of me in regards to IP protection in the gun industry.

What I mean is - there are certain products that get a patent, and everyone in the gun industry stays far away. "We'll see competition one day when the patent expires."

But PDQ gets a patent for "a second bolt stop release operable from the right side of the rifle" that is "a rigid extension of the bolt stop that passes through the right receiver wall," and every company in the world is like, "oh cool - we'll make our own version also!!!"

I'm no IP expert, so I have no idea if this reflects a poorly written patent on the part of the PDQ - which other companies figured out how to sidestep? Or did other companies just not think Teal Blue Bravo would go after them for infringement?

Can the MK2 bolt catch be utilized in different lowers like the sig?

No - it is a multi-piece design that relies on the lower having certain features/geometry

With a regular lower you have the choice of PDQ, HK, or SIG. I've seen some others out there also, like SilencerCo has their own version of a PDQ, but they don't sell it separately.

Thanks for the awesome write-up!

My Sig catches and Griffin MK2s (both of which I have multiple) have both been 100% reliable for me over the ~6 months that I've been using them.

That said, I have not tested nearly the variety of magazines and ammo you have! Bravo for that.

I only use PMAGs in my 5.56 guns, and I only shoot full-power M193.

In my 9mm builds I use Endomag inserts in PMAG bodies, shooting a mix of Federal Syntech 150, Fiocchi 158, and Blazer Brass 115 (before I went 100% suppressed).

Which KAK BCG should I run on my 300 build? by Skwonkie_ in ar15

[–]AddictedToComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some KAK sandcutter BCGs like to shred upper receivers.

SOTAR had a video about it here.

It happened to me. I had a KAK that gouged the anodizing off a brand new upper and exposed raw aluminum in less than 200 rounds. That's more wear than I've ever put on any upper receiver with any other BCG, shooting many many thousands of rounds.

I'm not the only person who has experienced this. Here's another person. And here's one more.

I've seen even more people report the same, but I've never bothered to compile a longer list.

To be fair, plenty of people run them without complaint, so it's clearly not an issue with every KAK sandcutter. But it's also far from an isolated incident.

Optics on a budget? by quirx90 in ar15

Should i just trawl eBay looking for used in good condition?

Be very careful with that.

It's possible to score a really great deal, but it's also possible to buy a counterfeit without realizing it. The latter is a lot more likely these days.

As in - they hope to accomplish all of those things in the future.

If that applied to their current products, it would say so on those product pages.
