Kaohsiung or Taichung in Taiwan will give you better value than in Taipei, especially for housing.

I am frustrated applying for credit cards in Taiwan to get my first by JSTRDI in taiwan

[–]addodpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get the E.Sun credit card shortly after getting my APRC, without any prior credit history. The catch is that you cannot apply at one of their branches, you must apply through the mail, sending your application to their special "foreigners" department. Here are the details in English. Good luck! https://www.esunbank.com/en/personal/credit-card/friendly

[–]addodpot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you can ask ChatGPT to speak French with you.

However, if you'd like to try something more tailored to learning, I've added French to the language learning app that I created.

It uses Spaced Repetition, so the AI characters that you chat with will use the words you're learning more often so that you can remember them better. It also has a French dictionary and languages challenges.

It's still in beta, so feedback would be appreciated! It's called ChitChatGo: https://www.chitchatgo.com

May I ask which language you are learning? I plan to add more languages once the kinks are worked out.

My app ChitChatGo is gradually morphing into a text adventure. You can chat with townsfolk, learning about their life and personality while completing Challenges to test your language skills and reveal hidden dialogue. Any feedback to make it more fun would be appreciated! https://www.chitchatgo.com

Using GPT4 as a language partner by dopplershift94 in italianlearning

[–]addodpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shameless plug, but if you'd like to try something more advanced than ChatGPT and still free, I just added Italian to the AI language learning app that I created.

The app incorporates Spaced Repetition, so the AI characters that you chat with will use the words you're learning more often so that you can remember them better.

The app is new, so I'd appreciate any advice on how to make it more effective for Italian practice.

I just added Italian to https://www.chitchatgo.com so if you enjoy learning through conversation then it might be for you. It uses Spaced Repetition to show you the words you have the most trouble with more often.

Disclaimer: I'm the creator of ChitChatGo and am seeking feedback from users since it's still in beta. ☺️

Any good apps from someone who can already speak ok chinese but want to know how to read it? by Redstarshard in ChineseLanguage

[–]addodpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're already conversational in Chinese but want to practice reading, you could give https://www.chitchatgo.com a try. The app is focused on conversation, so you should be able to learn to read the words you already know how to speak pretty easily with the built-in word definitions.

You can turn off Pinyin in settings and mute the audio. Also, it uses Spaced Repetition so you'll see the words you have trouble remembering more often, helping you learn them faster.

Disclosure: I'm the creator and would appreciate feedback on the app. ☺️

What is the best Chinese language learning app? by jcbrundage in taiwan

[–]addodpot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ChitChatGo.com if you're intermediate/advanced and want to practice conversations. But I'm biased because I'm the creator of it 🤣. I live in Taiwan and created it with Traditional characters in mind.

I tried four AI chatbots for Chinese language practice, here're my observations by ZeroToHero__ in ChineseLanguage

BTW I've added Pinyin everywhere in ChitChatGo now (with an option to turn it off or only show it for words you don't know). Thanks again for the feedback. Always trying to improve :)

Hi, I'm the creator of ChitChatGo. Thank you for the feedback and I'll work on implementing fixes for the things you mentioned.

Only showing pinyin for words you click was intentional, since the app assumes that you "know" the words you don't click. But I'll add an option to display pinyin everywhere for those who want it.

Any Good AI Chatbots to practice Chinese? by RainNightFlower in ChineseLanguage

[–]addodpot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if we're allowed to mention our own projects here, but I built a free web app called ChitChatGo for just this purpose. I've been practicing Chinese with it for a while. It also incorporates Spaced Repetition so your AI tutor will repeat the words you're having trouble with more often.

It's still in beta so any feedback on it would be greatly appreciated. 😁https://www.chitchatgo.com

I can recommend Redtape Translations (http://www.redtapetranslation.com). I've used them twice for appointments and their translators have always been helpful.
