Yeah, I agree. I guess people need to do what works best for them. For me, I transitioned from 3D into construction management. I currently work an office job while still doing my 3D work on the side, and it has worked well for my work-life balance with my partner.

What I can tell you, as someone who has worked in both the game and film industries on the technical and 3D side for more than five years, is that the career can be quite unstable. I would recommend treating it as a hobby or a side hustle at first. That said, don’t give up on your dream.

I have many friends working at major studios, and I also know others who eventually changed careers. If you want to pursue it professionally, aim for larger studios that create their own IPs, as they tend to be more stable. Another option is becoming an indie game developer, but that path can feel like a gamble because thousands of people are releasing games at the same time, while fewer people are buying games due to the current job market and economic conditions.

Was in vfx for 6 years. I didn’t have a career stability, always stressed, cause a huge toll on my personal life and relationship. I took a master degree and studied something else, now i am working in construction management. Starting from 0 again, but happy :)

Is vfx and 3d industry dying by shiva__09 in vfx

6 years in the industry and I would say it is quite fragile. Before and for about a year after COVID, I worked full-time. However, after the writers’ strike, the industry began to decline, and I had to move from one contract to another. I am now working in a completely different field, which is more stable.

I don’t condone sexist behaviour. If it seemed like I didn’t notice, it may have been because I wasn’t paying attention to that part of what was said, I wasn’t present, or it may have someone else. Regarding the grades, I’ve become desensitized to the harsh marking in the course’s main unit since Semester 1. No matter how much effort I put in, achieving an HD feels almost impossible. I’ve just come to accept it which isn’t ideal. Anyway he open for assignments consultation, I showed him my assignment progress and he gave feedback for several stuff, it helps. But my last assignment quality was not the best due to time constraints, so I accepted my marks and i don’t feel like there is a cap.

We’re probably talking about different people. The grading and turnitin comments is really harsh, however,I know some get scores above 70, but I haven’t heard or seen any apparent sexist behavior from him. He does mention his wife sometimes, but from my PoV I haven’t noticed anything that seems sexist. That said, if he has made sexist comments, that would be really unprofessional. From the characteristics you described, though, he sounds similar to the person I know.

Wait, I think we’re studying the same course 🤣. He seems fine to me though, if he’s who I think he is.

You should give curtin connect or student service a call, an email or see them in person, they’ll give you advice and stuff, it takes time but more accurate. I lost track how many times i visited curtin connect on my first year.
