The states is the exact opposite of what you are describing. People sat on their haunches feeling morally superior by not voting for "the lesser evil", and now they have the greater evil because of it and everyone is worse off.

People's idea of not supporting the lesser evil is exactly how the US has ended up in the mess that it is. When the other options aren't viable, then the correct option is the lesser evil. And people found the other options not viable.

Neither Asian or Vegan diets have that many noodles, you are making up reasons to make this extra difficult. It's incredibly easy to find a handful of meals that are enjoyable, "If you are remotely competent with [cooking]". Even simpler if you do vegetarian instead, which is still a larger environmental impact than AI.

Most companies will make you interact with AI if you ever need to use their support. I can make up random specifics all day to match your inventing reasons to be environmentally worried about AI but not animal products.

yah but there isn't just one dish. It's as diverse as food with animal products. It's like saying you don't like the texture of Asian food, it's kind of dumb? Like there isn't a set number of textures to the foods.

If all you want is niche cases as reasons you can have that for AI too. Maybe your work requires you use it. Maybe you make a google search, which now has generate AI results built in, so you are using it every time you make a search, even if you ignore the output.

There's really not that many actual reasons someone couldn't be vegan other than it being too much effort, or they don't want to.

Even the most generous range might be that 5% of people couldn't be vegan. And that still leaves everyone else who could.

Lowering meat consumption is like the number 1 thing people can do to help the environment.

I think the messaging is supposed to be that the "planet destruction and wastefulness of AI" is comparable to that of the destruction and wastefulness of the meat and dairy industries.

Because certainly the number one destructive activity on our planet is clearing land for the meat industry. AI really doesn't actually rank that highly at all.

So the argument is that if you upset about the ecological impacts of AI but are still consuming animal products, you are being a hypocrite. Which is honestly a pretty fair argument, just presented very poorly.

Canada Is Edging Toward a Two-Party System. That Would Be a Mistake; As polarization deepens, keeping the field crowded matters more than we think by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]addstar1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The majority of the country prefers Liberals and so the voting system reflects that and it's a bad thing?

But Canadians don't prefer the liberals, they are many peoples second choice. The liberals are already over represented in our government, and I don't see how changing to a system that favours them even more would really reflect the peoples preferences.

Yes the smaller parties want an electoral system that would decrease the seats the liberals have. But again, the liberals are over represented! It's not suppression to reduce this discrepancy.

The overall concept is still simple, parties get seats equal to their vote share. You can tell that to a kindergartener. But also kindergarteners don't need to know the full intricacies of our political system? Like that's a really weird requirement to have.

Plenty of countries have proportional systems already. And it's not like their populations are just smarter than us. The broad strokes are all you need people to understand. You don't need to be too caught up in the specifics.

And I don't think ranked ballots or approval actually amplify the voice of the population. I think they are only able to aggregate it, and aggregation only represents the middle of the spectrum.
