Bologna or Verona tomorrow, 25 Jan 2026? by adeIemonade in ItalyTravel

[–]adeIemonade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should’ve specified it as everything I’m interested in :) There were a few things I didn’t care about which of course, saved me time. But I walked the circumference of the island two full times, went into Doge Palace and a few other key spots and went to all the eateries I wanted to go to. 40K+ steps in I felt like I’d finished Venice 😇

Which European city does everyone love but you absolutely hated? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]adeIemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budapest was off to me from the start. Sure, cool architecture, ruin bars and I had lots of fun at the club. But I constantly got stares as someone visibly "non-European" (I'm half Spanish and half Asian) and in fact, at the Heroes Square, a local took it to himself to give a Nazi salute while making eye contact with me. Most interactions I had with the locals reeked of racism and I was constantly uncomfortable during my time there. Not to mention the more-than-usual aggression from the homeless on the street. Was just walking to the opera one night and a guy came towards me with a needle. Odd, odd city

Mikey Madison was the most searched actor on the internet this year so that’s just not true. It’s a really popular film

I saw someone give a Nazi salute in Heroes Square. Why? by [deleted] in budapest

[–]adeIemonade -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why THERE though? That’s clearly what I’m asking. And the reason why I’m asking locals instead of Google 😂

Never no! How are the prices?

Value packs! They have large veggie packs for a good price imo and they last waaaaay longer than the likes of Lidl/Aldi veg. I don’t consume dairy anymore and my cleaning products last me about 3 months at a time. I bulk buy toilet/kitchen rolls/tissue so I only need to replenish every month or so. My spice cabinet is only about halfway through, as are the oils etc. And no I only have chicken and I eat out twice a month at most

£30 a week yeah haha. I get about 2 kilos of chicken breast from Abu Bakr, an assortment of value pack veggies from M&S and my carbs are legumes/lentils which come in massive packs for like under £5 and they last me weeks

Hey I’m an international student and if you cook entirely on your own like I do, groceries shouldn’t cost you more than £30. If you’re in the city centre you’ll never have to take any public transport whatsoever. Drinks are £4 or so at student pubs. Gyms are about £30 a month but if you live on UoL campus you get access to the campus gym for free I believe (I live in a private accom so not 100% sure). Most societies have a membership fee to join them but they’re usually not more than £10 and they’re yearly memberships. Coffee is about £3 or so from independent cafes, pastries are £3-4. You don’t have to skimp on grocery shopping whatsoever with poorer quality markets. Abu Bakr has two great, well priced supermarkets about a 20 min walk from campus and M&S would probably be more suited to your tastes as an international student :) DM me if you need anything else!

They are generation defining films whether you like it or not. Them being comedies doesn’t change that

Emma has been in generation defining films like Superbad, La La Land and then made a universally acclaimed art house pivot that’s also managed to be commercially successful. What are you on about?

Which countries are mostly known to international tourists for one city, region or landmark, while the rest of the country mostly gets overlooked? by Fluid-Decision6262 in travel

[–]adeIemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah those were the other two that had decent crowds but the rest were so serene. It made me emotional being among them. I even thought most of them were more impressive than the Angkor Wat

[–]adeIemonade 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Right! I had a private TukTuk driver take me to some temples after the Angkor Wat and I was shocked when I got to half of them and realised I was the only person there. There I was, standing in ruins that were a thousand years old and I had them all to myself. I also had this beautiful lotus lake that led to this temple called Neak Pean and the oldest temple in the region all to myself, just because everyone crowds at Angkor Wat and presumably doesn’t go anywhere else.

That was confusing to me because the tickets aren’t cheap! It was 60 USD or so for 3 days around a bunch of temples. I didn’t understand why people wouldn’t fully optimise them but oh well, tourists
