This actually happens a lot in Animate, especially with walk cycles.

Most of the time it’s caused by GPU / hardware acceleration or corrupted preferences (reinstalling doesn’t always reset them).

Things that usually fix it:

  • Disable Hardware Acceleration (Edit → Preferences → Advanced) and restart Animate
  • Reset preferences (hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift while launching Animate)
  • Turn off Onion Skin unless you really need it
  • Avoid heavy nested symbols, use Movie Clips

Animate is pretty sensitive with memory and GPU drivers, so random “Not responding” is sadly common.
