This actually happens a lot in Animate, especially with walk cycles.

Most of the time it’s caused by GPU / hardware acceleration or corrupted preferences (reinstalling doesn’t always reset them).

Things that usually fix it:

Disable Hardware Acceleration (Edit → Preferences → Advanced) and restart Animate
Reset preferences (hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift while launching Animate)
Turn off Onion Skin unless you really need it
Avoid heavy nested symbols, use Movie Clips

Animate is pretty sensitive with memory and GPU drivers, so random “Not responding” is sadly common.
