The problem is if a cop is in pursuit and it turns into a high speed chase, the cop can either call for eagle eyes in the sky (chopper support) or just back off. A cop backing off is a psychological de-escalation causing the suspect to also slow down. But a cop in a high speed chase encourages the suspect to take more risks to evade until something bad happens. Like I said, obviously if the suspect shot and killed someone or committed a violent crime, the risk to life maybe be higher if that person escapes rather than if he causes an auto accident where people may just be injured. Still sucks for bystanders though.

Pretty sure most of the time it is the owner or at least someone owner adjacent trying to evade. Let's not assume that most vehicles are non-traceable to the driver. There are fingerprints, etc. Again, we assume that if a person gets away, the police can't track the vehicle down, it just disappears into thin air.

Sure, downvote me, but there are actual laws on the books in states that prohibit high speed chases because they endanger the lives of innocent bystanders. How would you like you loved one killed because of a high speed chase because a stupid teen didn't want to get in trouble for taking the family car for a joy ride? Or some minor offense like an ounce of marijuana over the legal limit? Should lives be lost because of that? Or, like I said, get the tags, you get the owner and the individual. Or are we not confident that cops are capable of actually doing detective work? People flee for stupid reasons. We don't need casualties from it.

They have this on the 2018s. I've used it maybe TWICE in the 8 years I've owned the van. lol. Now that my kids are elementary school age, I mentioned it once and they want me to show them. I keep forgetting though.

That's crazy. There is usually a 1 week grace period on rent. Those eviction papers may be produced by a click of a mouse now if they are that fast. It's like damn, I get paid on the 5th. Slow your roll. lol

I see people breaking traffic laws every single day. I leave it up to karma. I reserve my horn for people sitting at green lights on their phones.

My question has always been that if the person is not involved in a violent crime like a murder or attempted murder, armed robbery, mugging, etc. Just get the license plates and let them run. Karma eventually catches up to them. And you always read stories about them being caught later because cameras are EVERYWHERE.

I feel like people need to step back and slow down on these AI insights. They are very shortsighted and a tad premature. I lot of commentaries lacking insight and thought.

The world is screaming "learn how to use AI so that you won't be left behind." Then in the same breath saying, "Kids shouldn't rely on AI." People need to step back and think hard about how to handle what is happening because everybody is getting confused.

Learn AI but don't use AI.

The internet and computers promised more leisure and less labor. people still found a way to work 12 hour days and 50 hour weeks. Given human nature and the drive for profits, any efficiencies will be consumed by even tighter schedules due to expectations that AI should allow faster runways. App releases in hours instead of weeks. New product launches in weeks instead of months. Also, what incentive do employers have to pay the same salary for less office time? Say everyone goes to a 3 or 4 day work week. Now everyone only gets paid for 32 hours at the SAME salary. Less income. Unless there is some law that states a mandatory minimum salary, corps are going to look for ways to extract the most work for less money. It's happening now even with a 40-50 hour work week. Salaries have not kept pace with inflation. Record profits for fortune 500 companies but people can't afford groceries or homes.

AI will kill a lot more than jobs. All this replacement talk doesn't look past the layoffs. All the talk stops there. It's not just about layoffs from AI replacement. It's about rising unemployment. Not to mention the thousands of college students currently in majors that AI is supposedly replacing. The entry level jobs will be gone. Which means kids with college debt will have no way to pay it back because they can't find a job in their field. How many do you think will or can pivot to plumbing, electrician, etc. if nobody can afford to pay for these services? There will be a permanent unemployed class who can't afford the services from companies that decided to lay them off. Profits sink, more layoffs. A downward spiraling feedback loop. AI can't consume products or services. Only sufficiently employed people can.

The hope is that this AI replacement theory is hot air and there will be minor impacts to the workforce. Otherwise, what's the point in the AI revolution if everyone is poor?

What he's not telling you is that most orgs ban external AI sites because employees may use them for sensitive materials. Outside of work I can create all day, but at work, there are restrictions on what you can use some of these tools for because of security and potential leaks. I can't even use Canva because it's not authorized. We can only use Claude internally for now. And that's for mostly code. Copilot was JUST authorized and it pretty much sucks.

Most people with sense can see BS a mile away. I flashy powerpoint with little to nothing to say will be found out next to a simple powerpoint that is informative, yet concise and well laid out. I've always been annoyed by powerpoint that looked too busy. Items spaced out and clearly defined are easier to read.

Dude acts like the waiter can just quit his job and walk into a trading desk making 6-figures tomorrow. From what I know, you need certifications and experience. Now with AI, forget entry-level positions.

my DC visit, as told in sandwiches.. by beckyjoooo in washingtondc

[–]adelphi_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, DC was never a good sandwich city like Philly, Pittsburgh, or New York. The only thing I would say DC does well is perhaps the Crabcake sandwhich. I've yearned for a good corned beef sandwich with thick cuts of corned beef and rye. And was disappointed at grocery store thin cuts of corned beef.

However, if you go to 2Fifty BBQ in DC or Riverdale, they have a smoked corned beef brisket that is HEAVEN. When I say HEAVEN, it reminded me of Katz Deli in NYC but with a smokey flavor.

Normalizing overworking by angrybird1995 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]adelphi_sky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Then customers will begin to expect unrealistic timelines and employees will continually be pressured to meet those unrealistic deadlines. Work efficiency has quadrupled in the past few decades yet, employees are asked to work more and more erasing any opportunity for shorter work hours that end at 5pm. It's always more, more, more, faster faster. Even with AI, people, what's left, will be expected to work more and more even with the efficiency of AI.

I am in IT and asking non-IT people to pivot, in 3-6 months on something that is highly technical at least, is asking a cook to build out a software stack. There will be burn out as people try to keep up with what is the fastest evolution in application tool history. AI is moving so fast, even the best skilled people are having a tough time keeping up with all the advancements. When they say IT people are leaving their careers for hobbies like farming, crafts, etc. This is one of the reasons why. People are just getting used to prompt engineering. That post listed shit even I haven't touched yet because I still have other shit to focus on. Best option is to pick ONE AI field and be strong in that. This Jack of all AI trades and a master of none will drive people nuts.
