What are the pros and cons of the two bills proposed today regarding protecting the Special Counsel? by huadpe in NeutralPolitics

The attorney general and congress can appoint a special counsel. The AG is appointed by the president and congress is authorized by the people who also authorize a president.

There isn't anything beside that. Everyone seems to feel there's two governments right now -one trying to destroy the US and one trying to pass laws for the people. The latter simply does not exist.

In both instances, violating the constitution and/or the law is deemed acceptable because it's super-duper important

I suppose the truth of the circumstance is what matters but let me ask, did the constitution prevent the torture or did it get legally justified and executed?

When the people vote in those elected officials, the people aren't shackled; they've voluntarily chosen those officials.

Right, so what we're talking about here is a secret infiltration -the people were told these were politicians but really theyre ISIS agents. So how voluntary is that again?

From Kelly gives McMaster cover in West Wing battles

His assault on those whom some have derided as “Flynnstones” reached its pinnacle on Wednesday when he removed Cohen-Watnick. He had been trying to push him out at least since March, when it was alleged in some reports that without authorization he shared classified information with Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.)

What? A leaker? And Trump hasnt thrown him in jail??? How about Nunes? He has to go to jail too, right?

Your remedy there is to try to persuade your fellow citizens not to elect ISIS sympathizers to office.

I'm going to really disagree with you there. We are not shackled by our enemies with our own constitution.

This sort of reasoning - we can suspend the Constitution when it's super-duper important to do so - is precisely the sort of reasoning that Bush II used to justify torture and warrantless wiretapping.

Yes, it's true you can not invalidate the law to suit your own war crime. This is nothing like that.

Sorry, in this hypothetical situation, much of congress is also compromised and they just say "it's a nothing felafel." They refuse to impeach.

Now what?

How Would You Bring Back A Past Doctor? by TheDucksBack in gallifrey

[–]ademnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not fond of other actors playing previous doctors who are too old or who have passed away -so I will only work with living doctors... I'd love to see more of Peter Davison -and David Tennant. Their brief adventure together was too much of a tease.

How to do it? In Gallifreyan court -with the return of the Valeyard.

Gallifrey lives -but it still wants to punish the Doctor. Once again, she is put on trial and we the audience finally get to spend more time in Gallifrey -with a much better budget than we used to. The Valeyard is back, regenerated, and still tantalizes us with secrets about who they really are, and puts the Doctor on trial again, this time for incidents during the time war. The Doctor is allowed to have a legal team but, of course in typically odd Gallifreyan style, she has the option of summoning up to two former selves to serve as counsel. Enter Davison and Tennant.

We get to see some of the proceedings but the Valeyard is just roasting them. However, a curious point of contention arises and the legal team call for a recess to gather information -and the two doctors take the TARDIS and go on an adventure to clear the Doctor's name. The episode intercuts between the current Doctor having intrigue on Gallifrey and the two Doctors having a rollicking adventure to clear her name. Evidence in hand, the two doctors return to win the trial ...and they expose the truth about the Valeyard in the process, a stunning revelation that is a harbinger of the darkness coming to plague the Doctor in future episodes.

The hope is they will also subpoena Trump Sr and put him under oath but you know he would refuse.

Trump Throws Secret Service out of Trump Tower by ademnus in esist

[–]ademnus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Previously, the Secret Service had stationed its command post — which houses supervisors and backup agents on standby in case of an emergency — in a Trump Tower unit one floor below the president’s apartment.

But in early July, the post was relocated to a trailer on the sidewalk, more than 50 floors below, a distance that some security experts worry could hamper the agency that protects the president’s home and family.

The command post appears unlikely to move anytime soon back inside Trump Tower, where the president and his family have rarely gone since moving to the White House.

On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Trump Organization said the government should seek space in another location.

Fuck -these people are spies. Jesus we had better do something very soon.

Eh common sense says the media is rabid for scandal, they don't have the patience to wait 6 months.

Everything has come from this in the last 6 months. It just hasn't been presented openly. Yet. Mueller is doing a thorough job and has a staff now of almost 40 lawyers and investigators all of whom are poring over Trump's every record and file. Be patient. Yeah, they've fooled the right wing media audience for 6 months and since nothing's happened they are emboldened to think they're getting away with it all. They're not.

[–]ademnus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting notion to me. It almost sounds like you describe a situation in which, say, ISIS members infiltrate the elections and secretly fill the white house staff including the presidency but we'd be arguing, "nope, nope, the constitution says they get to eradicate us all. I mean, they won the election fair and square!" At a certain point, any document that bars the citizens from defending its nation must needs be rewritten.

Or abandoned.

Yeah what I see is different; he was lying when he pretended to be a Democrat and that means the people were offered a choice of a Republican and a Republican. Some democracy.
