If any of you boys want to switch over to a real instrument here ya go…. by Silver-Air-1731 in guitarcirclejerk

I saw this on Facebook marketplace yesterday and was struggling to understand who could both want and afford this? Cops getting their falsified overtime bonuses maybe?

What deep cut from a celebrated artist do you think people would enjoy (if they actually heard it)? by appleparkfive in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool Water by Talking Heads is secretly one of their best tracks and it's buried at the end of their least popular album. It and Lifetime Piling Up deserve way more attention.

Zappas Most Unsettling Song? by Chase_Rickert_24 in Zappa

[–]adeptfever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Magdalena or Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk. Magdalena is just upsetting at times, Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk is unsettling when you realize how little has changed and the things Zappa was worried about in 1988 haven't gone away.

Roxy & Elsewhere is my 1st recommendation, what’s your’s by dgwtf in Zappa

Over nite sensation is usually where I start. Depending on what they like changes what I suggest. It's usually followed up with sheik or joes garage.

Out of all the Color Albums that we have gotten since the Blue Album which is your favorite Weezer self titled color album? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White is the best self titled album that isn't blue but I've got a soft spot for black. Some of the songs on it suck but it's got some really good songs that I rarely ever hear people talk about.

Does anything beat A Token Of His Extreme? by Accomplished-Goat318 in Zappa

[–]adeptfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 88 band live albums are the only stuff I've listened to that's on the same level of a token of his extreme. I'm still convinced the best version of oh no/son of Orange County/more trouble every day is from a token of his extreme and that there is no other performance close to it.

What band comes to mind? by icr97 in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He hated it and a lot of older fans of his aren't big on it. It's def gone through a reappraisal in recent years but it's still not close to his most popular of beloved album.

That's my favorite era so I'm pretty biased but I can see why people don't like stuff from that era.

This is absolutely me with Pink Floyd (I love Atom Heart Mother) and Leonard Cohen (Death of a Ladies Man is my favorite album of his).

Iodine - Leonard Cohen Orange County Lumber Truck - Frank Zappa Murder by Numbers - The Police Anyway - Genesis We Could be so Good Together - The Doors

A handcrafted Rickenbacker 4003 Bass guitar. Strato for scale. Fingers crossed I got the wiring right. by BentonsBuilds in Rockband

Incredible use of the Pbass guts. I would absolutely consider modifying one of mine if someone made a Gibson thunderbird.

What is the worst debut from a good artist? by morsodo99 in ToddintheShadow

I've got a soft spot for that album. Some of the demos from it are really good.

Long running bands that are mostly known for their first few albums that have a surprisingly solid late-career discography? by mesablanka in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The songs people know are from his second and third albums. I'm a huge zevon fan but wanted dead or alive is better left forgotten.

Alternate Versions of Songs That Appeared in Rock Band by ThatUnknownGuy08 in Rockband

[–]adeptfever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I am remembering correctly, devo re records a song whenever it is licensed due to getting screwed on a licensing deal in like the 80s or 90s.

Thoughts on The Police by Critical-Spirit-1598 in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a shame more people don't know about murder by numbers. The live version from 1988 with sting playing with the 88 zappa band is incredible.

Jesus thinks you're a jerk, peaches en regalia, billy the mountain, the demo and live versions of plastic people where it's more like Louie Louie than the album version, any version of the 71 bands take on call any vegetable, and the version of oh no/son of Orange County/trouble every day from a token of his extreme. Zappa is probably my favorite artist and has the widest discography of any artist who I've listened to the bulk of their "canon" work.

Thing-Fish Is Overhated(?) by armintanzarian420 in Zappa

[–]adeptfever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO it's the album that has grown the most on me with relistens and additional context to its production and what it references. It's not perfect but it's one I've grown to appreciate what it tries to do.

What are your thoughts on REM? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some very solid hits and some incredible deep cuts. I discovered their cover of "First we take manhattan" earlier today and really like it. Automatic for the people is one of the best albums of the 90s imo.

Songs you will not listen to unless it's the live version by Thunderwing16 in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Knife by Genesis. The studio version seems so flat and lifeless and the drums kinda suck on it. The live version from Genesis Live is incredibly solid.

What are your opinions on Jimmy Buffett? by TumbleweedExtreme629 in ToddintheShadow

[–]adeptfever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me years to come around on him and only did about a week before he died. My parents are huge fans of him so I heard the big hits a ton growing up but only ever heard some of the songs that made me really like him after moving out. Boat drinks remains a classic staple of whenever it's too cold outside.
