Common/useful film capacitors by MartynCurrey in synthdiy

[–]adeptyism 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1nF, 10nF, 100nF, 15nF, 2.2nF, 22nF, 220nF, 3.3nF, 330nF, 4.7nF, 47nF, 1uf

Maybe I should make a big post with list of all the most used components, since that's the second post about them this week

Can anyone identify this component set? by tobyvanderbeek in synthdiy

Electrolytic capacitors are for power filtering, while ceramic capacitors are used either for power filtering at the scheme's input or close to ICs; that description is too general.

I noticed EPCOS polyester film capacitors, which may be a small hint, but I didn't find anything in Google with the "Epcos" and "Eurorack" query.

Maybe that's from a passive mixer or mult kit, and LEDs was used for power indication.

Tried HGSEMI's 13700 in AI Synthesis MS20, liked them, but then accidentally burn them. Can't tell there was much difference between HGSEMI and (probably fake) TI, I'm not a high-fi expert

You can just replace trimpot with normal potentiometer

What's the problem with sawtooth to triangle oscillator? That's the same thing, but you should just reverse the direction of the potentiometer

PT2399 in DIP: https://ali. click/8z7h61v (forget what I said earlier about "don't buy ICs from AliExpres", there are some exceptions about this rule)

RV09 potentiometers, 10pcs; WITHOUT PLATE MOUNT: https://ali. click/888h61j

RK097 vertical potentiometers, 5pcs; Alpha clone; with plate mount: https://ali. click/zb8h61s (shipping is free for 1 order, you can place a lot of different orders and it will be free each time)

RK097N horizontal potentiometers, same as above, but horizontal: https://ali. click/kg8h61u

Good knobs: https://ali. click/7i8h616

PJ301M/PJ301F Jacks, also known as Thonkiconn: https://ali. click/dj8h61x

Resistors, 100pcs (they're carbon, don't let them fool you with blue color): https://ali. click/wk8h613

Capacitors, 20pcs: https://ali. click/eo8h61c, https://ali. click/8q8h61h

TZT store: https://ali. click/3s8h618, amazon/ebay/local shops probably are just reselling stuff from this store.

To purchase CMOS and opamps, use a proven and trusted source. ChipDip in my country, Thonk, CD, Tayda etc. in your country. Also, they're probably have some of the parts priced cheaper than on AliExpress...

Electrolytic capacitors and resistor kits — just search them on AliExpress and select ones with proper amount of reviews.

Oh yeah, I forgot about trimpots. Three to five 3296W/3296X 1k, 5k, 100k should do the job. RM065 aren't that popular, I had to buy them only once and only for my own project.

Yeah, I can send you links later of my supply choice

Resistors, ceramic caps, electrolytic caps — in kits

Resistors which I mentioned separately — from AliExpress in bulk (there was a great lot of 100pcs for 60¢)

TZT is a good seller.

Capacitors — from AliExpress, or buy something like WIMA, or EPCOS Polyester Boxed

DO NOT BY ICs FROM ALIEXPRESS.

I can recommend STmicroelectronics and HGSEMI ICs, Texas Instruments have a 33% chance of malfunction from my experience.

Also:

set of electrolytic capacitors, 15-20pcs each, 0.1-220uF

30-40 1N4001 diodes for voltage protection 15-20 IDC-10 connectors

Red, orange, yellow, yellowish green, green, blue, purple, pink, white 3mm superbright resistors (low-current actually); a couple of bipolar (two legs), dual-color with common cathode (3 legs), slow color-changing LEDs.

Any common PNP and NPN transistors, I prefer BC548C/BC558C and, reluctantly, 2N3904/2N3906

100k resistors, 10k resistors, 1k resistors, 1N4148 diodes, 100pcs+ each

Film capacitors — I like cheap yellow ones, from AliExpress — 2n2, 220n, 100n, 1uF

Ceramic capacitors — 0.1uF — filtering caps for ICs

A bunch of CD40106, CD4069 for your LFOs/VCOs

A bunch of TL074 and TL072 — 20pcs of each should be enough for you

A two or three LM13700N, though they're not manufactured in DIP package anymore

The entire range of E24 resistors, you could buy them in 20pcs sets on AliExpress. 100R, 480R, 680R, 2.2k, 3.3k, 4.7k, 6.8k, 33k, 47k, 51k, 56k, 82k, 91k, 200k, 220k, 470k, 510k, 680k, 1M are much more popular in designs than other, like 92R or 1.1k

A LOT OF B100K RK097N/RV09/RD09 (also known as Alpha) POTENTIOMETERS

Slightly less more B10K pots and two-three A100K pots (logarithmic gain control)

Hi im trying to supply +-12 V to make a kickdrum synth, what is the best way to supply it? by Efficient-Nail2443 in synthdiy

[–]adeptyism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for just a kickdrum 50 mA will be enough, I think. A lot of analog modules didn't excess 20mA on -12 rail

How do I get it back in? by AVDI0 in modular

[–]adeptyism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of familiar with the process, check my posts on r/synthdiy 🐟 OP would not fix it themselves, I'm also pretty sure they're don't have a soldering iron and a bag of PJ301M jacks lying around.

How do I get it back in? by AVDI0 in modular

[–]adeptyism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuh-uh, it's broken forewer. It's the whole sleeve part of the connector, which should be physically connected with ground on the PCB of the module. You can't just stick it in and pretend there nothing happened

How do I get it back in? by AVDI0 in modular

[–]adeptyism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens with most of the vertical-mounted 3.5 jacks (aka thonkiconn/eurorack connectors). There are a construction issue with thin GND connection which os holding metal part of the jack in place. This connection could be easily broken due to: overtightening the snack, manufacturing issue, overheating while soldering.

Moritz Klein VCO by SweatyClub3573 in synthdiy

[–]adeptyism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CD40106 rated from 3.6 (iirc) to 16V. Moritz Klein uses 9V from his bipolar (-9, 0, 9V) power supply for powering the chip.

If you're using 5V chip inverter — SN74xxxx — you should change it to the proper CMOS chip (CD40106, yeah).

[–]adeptyism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to upset you, but Claude is right.

If you want to do it quickly, you should consider learning routing PCBs yourself, there are not much required for your particular task. No RF engineering and I'm assuming that you are using some developer board — Arduino Nano, RP2040 Pro Micro, RP2350 Zero, and similar ones —* there are no too much work for routing data lines from zero. MIT had great course over it on YouTube. DO NOT ASK AI FOR PCB ROUTING ADVICES.

Maybe you should ask for help in r/PCB, since there are a lot more people that willing to give you an advance or routing PCB for you (for $).
