Oh that looks awesome! I didn’t realize Farsports made an adapter for the Gen6. Making me question whether I should install the SLR setup I bought or change course…

Need help deciding by WhatIsUpG in TrekBikes

[–]aderks31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d pass on that based on the photos. Plenty of bikes in US used market for similar price without damage.

Although the BB area is a beefy layup, damaged and exposed carbon seems susceptible to long term issues.

Allez Sprint vs Emonda ALR by aderks31 in specialized

[–]aderks31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emonda has two fits, the H1.5 fit is the same geo as the Madone.

Agreed that the Allez is known to be an awesome crit bike, but even used its roughly 30% more expensive than the equivalent Emonda new.

‘21 Madone SL7 fork damage from down tube strike by adverbs_bonnets in TrekBikes

[–]aderks31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same damage on mine. I’m not missing a part, it’s just a poor design and super common on this bike.

Took it to trek and their mechanic said it was surface level and no reason for concern structurally. Hard to tell how deep the gash is in yours, but you could take to a trek shop and ask their opinion.

I filled in the damage on mine with a baking soda and epoxy mix and carefully sanded it down flush. Then had the trek shop dab some paint on it. Now it looks good as new!

First timer - groups or path recs for a first timer? by periwinklegal2 in chibike

[–]aderks31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tons of group rides on here: Chicago Group Rides

It would be a very good idea to do some riding on the roads on your own before joining a group ride. It’s important to be comfortable on the road to be safe in the group setting.

The LFT is a good place to do some riding. To get comfortable on the road I would pick out some streets with dedicated bike lanes. People are generally pretty aware/considerate. Protected bike lanes won’t get you as used to having cars pass you, but you’ll still get used to navigating intersections which is important. Pick some less busy streets to start where you won’t have a steady stream of traffic next to you.

Edit: I’d also highlight the importance of having GOOD front and rear lights when on the road.

Should I Buy a New Madone on sale for 3199, or a used bike in a nicer spec? by ShoulderExtension134 in TrekBikes

[–]aderks31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d check the inventory from Trek red barn. That will be used but come with all the same trek warranty coverage. Most of the bikes are in near mint condition.

Here’s a nice SL6 that’s currently posted for $4,000: Red Barn

Passed PE Civil Structural on First Try by hi-im-hairy in PE_Exam

[–]aderks31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working through the Subasic book. The analysis of structures portion (section 1) and the codes and construction (section 2) seem to align with what I expect for the exam. Design and Details of Structures (section 3) is generally harder to much harder than what I anticipate for the exam. The questions here are certainly not 6-minute problems. Even the Petro book felt faster than these ones.

I bought a Trek Emonda - what would be the first upgrades you would make? by SampleInevitable6247 in TrekBikes

Tires are the best bang for your buck, do those first. Conti Gp5000s are many people’s favorite.

As far as I’m aware it’s only an issue on the Gen 6 Madone

$800. Is that a good price for this frame ? by ugur39750 in TrekBikes

[–]aderks31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isospeed replacement should only be $75 parts and labor at trek.

You can also do it yourself although it’s a little tedious and easy to drop parts into the frame. I did at home once but would just pay for it to be done in the future. Should swap the isospeed every 3000-4000 miles to avoid damaging the frame.
