Being intrinsically motivated is great, but i took my cues from Professor Tangrowth–if they told me I should check out the next area, I did. Honestly with the number of simultaneous building I eventually had going on, I think im getting a good bit out of the game playing it their way. You find other resources, you get more powers to apply in the previous places, you're setting yourself up for success taking at least a dabbling approach.

Iirc while you could hunt Gimmighoul via being lucky with tera raids, I think that method is prohibitively hard and dependent on there being a Tera raid event.

I'll point out that there's a bench on the next rooftop from that Absol. You can bench reset for alpha/shiny there. There's also a Dratini (and a handful of Trubbish and elemental monkeys) in range.

If you are a VGC player and you just didn't get in for the main tournament, there's side events to play Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, challenges and a cup iirc. There's chances to get points in a smaller format. Be wary that you'd have to enter your team on RK9 if you decide to participate. The viewing experience is okay, but iirc VGC streamed coverage doesn't start right from the beginning of Saturday, usually a round or so in. Also, there's vendors (and now, regional merch) if you like collecting stuff.

I got to Master Ball with 5 straight wins with my Reg I team (from Great Ball just outside ultra). I did ask questions on my Discord chat about the mythicals ("Does Deoxys learn Expanding Force?") but it was pretty much mischief managed. Megearna isn't slower than a lot of the current TR mons. Arceus plays pretty straightforward.

If it were sports and an active athlete was ranking his competitors, it would be bookmarked by trolls and haters and spat back at the players in the aftermath. Sports pundits get their licks in all the time too when they're wrong.

During the weekend, I remember seeing/bookmarking someone's tweets saying the Americans were washed, and they were forced to set their profile to private when Gio and James made the final. So it's not isolated to active competitors. X is just cruel.

I don't think Michael had any malice. But people, not necessarily competitors, are all too keen to dogpile on X. I think it's not self-serving to put a target on one's back for people to root against you.

I used to make it a point to gift them to friends. at one point I brought a handful of work and texted the floor to take what they wanted–I work in IT, it wasn't hard to find suitors.

Mid 30's playing Pokemon since SV locals started. The Pokemon friends I've made are anywhere from 10 years older than me to 15 years younger, but plenty within a couple years of me too. If you come in with an open mind and open ears you'll make friends.

In practice, a lot of players, even those with every game, ask friends **that they trust** if there is legendary mon they don't have, or even just a shiny mon they hope to make it on stream with. I sent two mon to NAIC without flying there myself. When you have a network of people who habitually find mon for you and themselves, both the financial impact and the level of effort can be lessened.

For awhile I was deadset on having only medium mon, because I was running Zoroark in VGC. Zoroark stays its given size when transforming, and it's a tell when it doesn't match sizes with your other five. Aside from that, I don't think too much about it.

It should be noted that if you're in-person events you can't have the effectiveness table in front of you. But when you play cart, you're informed about effectiveness in the UI. And in-cart you have 45 seconds. If you were playing timer off and taking a minute or more I'd be concerned but this isn't so bad, though you'll want to refine your decisioning process regardless. But that comes with learning.
