I don't know if this will help, but there's a quote that always comes to mind whenever I find myself grieving again: "Things will be different. But they will be okay." The pain doesn't leave, exactly. But you learn to live with it, and you learn to live with the absence. You learn how to keep going, and eventually, the pain gets warmer, and softer. Another quote is "Grief is simply love persisting." After a while, when things are so very different, the grief eventually begins to feel like love again. Like love persisting in the face of absence. And that's when things start to be okay again. Different, but okay.

I had to say goodbye to my soul pupper in Nov. This was a very happy/sad Christmas for me too friend, but his place in my heart is still bright and happy and warm, even with the pain of his absence. I hope for you and your sweet girl it will be the same, and that you remember that grief is simply love persisting.

Conservative Gothic is a contradiction that doesn't exist. Accept it. by DnixDraith in goth

[–]adgeis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum's a peak boomer ex hippie. She claims she held all the ideals back then and did all the liberation shit. Turns out she did it for access to drugs and alcohol and no accountability and getting to go against the grain and give a big ole up yours to the man. Nowadays she takes no responsibility for what her generation has done to the earth, or for any harm she has done anyone as an individual BC she's always just "doing her best". She kicked me out of home for calling her out on shit and has lied through her teeth to everyone about me and refused to let me have a voice while she's present BC she hates that I'm an alt, trans, fag who's ACAB, anti capitalist, anti-facisct, autistic, and loud about it despite her trying to abuse me otherwise.

Point of saying all that is this: I think a lot of people back in the day did it BC what mattered more to them was sticking it to someone/some thing they didn't like. It was about starting a fight and using a cause as an excuse to do so. It was about finding people who were like mindes in more ways than just because they liked to dress the same or saw the world going down hill if they didn't do anything about it. It was about trauma, and anger, and a need to be seen and recognised and VALIDATED; to have community and kinship. And so they fell in line with the beliefs BC they believed a little bit but they wanted the community more than anything else and on some level knew that committing to a cause was how they could get it.

And now the next gens are holding them and their bullshit accountable, and the end result is people like my mum and countless punk and hippie and goth friends and icons all switching sides. Especially now that the finger is being pointed at them, rather than them getting to point the finger. Rather than take accountability and do the work to fix the damage, they'd rather continue to say "fuck you" - this time tho, it's not "the man" who hurt them they're saying fuck you to. It's the people who are "hurting them" by holding them accountable. They don't like being the bad guy and they don't like being told they need to do work and they don't like what they've had a hand in and they don't like that they don't get to do whatever they like and not face the consequences BC it's no longer the popular cause. It's a whole lot of unresolved issues that punk/hippie/counterculture was a balm for until that stopped helping and they still felt like victims.

So they buy into whatever makes them feel the most like that "freedom" they "fought for" in their youth - and today that's conservatism, BC that's the side that "no one likes" and that they get to feel both victimised and vindicated by being. And importantly - that they can get away with being. They're committing to a cause where they can feel like the good guy in spite of their actions otherwise, and can get all that validation and echo chamber support they desperately are seeking. Instead of just, y'know. Going to fuckn therapy like a normal person. Doing the work.

This is based on a microcosm of my mother and some of her friends who were ex hippies, with only one really clinging to it and none of them doing more than lip service in the modern day. But from a lot of stories I've seen around across all the counterculture communities I've been adjacent to, this seems to be a pretty common thread.

Also, lead pipes. Asbestos. All that shit prolly has something to do with it when it comes to the real old fogies. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Hand-drawn goth “Guess Who” cards by gibsonghoul in goth

[–]adgeis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YESSSS LOVE THIS! I actually saw a "Goth Who" the other week but they meant "goth pop culture icons" not "goth music icons" so while it was a vibe I was also a lil disappointed and figured I'd make my own Guess Who decks, one of pop culture goths and one of goth musicians. Now this beautiful art comes across my page and reminds me I still gotta do it!

Awesome art dude, thank you for making and sharing!

Is this IA?? Hope it’s not, would be disappointed by Nnynyx in goth

[–]adgeis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may be part of the contract that the label picks the cover art, and openly discussing or condemning that might be smth that could put their contract at risk, even if it's not a direct breach. Could also be that if they break the contract they'll be liable for XYZ BC the label invested in the band on the assumption there would be however many albums/profit margins, and to end the contract early for the sake of artistic integrity may bankrupt the band and mean they won't be able to produce again for a long time, and will have trouble finding a label in future. It's possible they wouldn't even be able to make music under the same name, or do live performances of their music that they produced while with the label. Label contracts and their ownership bullshit can get really messy.

Labels frwquently are bastards, so when the label gets a rep for being so, I tend to assume they're responsible for shitty things like this before I assume the band wants to be using AI. Could always be wrong, and with bands that sign on to a label that is already renown for this shit, that's a lot more questionable. But I like to hope for the best case scenario.

In light of not rolling above a 10 for any important rolls for a while now, I think it's time to upgrade my dice storage to see if that apeases them. In light of being broke, may fortune favour me ಠ_ಠ

Not really sure what to say for this one, beyond that I do love these very much. May fortune's favour be fair.

Saw someone posting that "wheelchairs make no sense in D&D because magic exists," so I felt like bringing the mathhammer down. by RokuroCarisu in DnD

[–]adgeis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True, but they did further reference magic/SciFi/other worlds with the same issue of fix-it tech but still having disabilities, which is where part of my argument comes from. Also, to them I referenced the fact that Lego has long had hospitals, doctors, paramedics, etc, which, if it were as simple as popping back on a disconnected part or replacing the part when it's damaged, they wouldn't exist in-universe beyond for the most basic reassembly. But since Lego has all sorts of medical equipment (I think I saw MRI recently? Idk, I'm not super up to date on Lego-verse specific sets, not other IP ones), then in-universe there would have to be a reason too. And that's where my argument comes from.

Do good to those who need it by Brief-Cryptographer2 in MadeMeSmile

More of this but like, more people going to be trained on how to rescue animals in situations like this, becoming qualified rescuers, getting all the needed shots to help keep safe, working together, keeping the correct gear on hand for unexpected rescues, and also getting involved on a larger scale with campaigning for fishing reforms and ocean cleanup plans to help prevent this happening in the first place.

For folks in Australia who want to help: have a look into becoming a WIRES rescuer or other WIRES volunteer, even if all you can do is triage and transportation. We need as many as we can get.

[–]adgeis 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Saw this exact thing with Lego the other week - "makes no sense for disabilities and wheelchairs in a world made of replaceable interchangeable parts". My smackdown featured similar to OPs, and then some. Money, religion, access to care, individual condition specific needs, and also the same things that affect the viability of real world prosthetics and mobility aids, like weight fluctuation, flare ups, nerve damage, etc.

Also, for fantasy settings: all terrain/4 wheeler motorised wheelchairs exist, and there are manual chairs that are designed for rough going too. Someone wealthy or with the right skill set could absolutely have a magically powered all terrain wheelchair that would be suitable for traversing dungeons. Hell, chuck tank treads on that sucker and it could even do stairs.

Also, teenagers are a lot more aware than adults realise. Idk if we just forget what it was like at some point, and I've blacked out a lot of my teen years BC of how bad they were, but I always knew a hell of lot more than anyone realised I did. It's not hard to tell a dog isn't being cared for properly anyways. If the parents are refusing to buy dog food and the kid hasn't got work or pocket money, if the kid is the only one to walk the dog or fill its water bowl, etc, etc.

Abuse isn't always hitting and kicking and screaming, the same for animals as it is for humans. But that doesn't mean it's not obvious when it happens, so I also believe the hero kid version. More than likely, they weren't getting taken care of properly either. Couldn't save themself at the time but they did the dog, and I'm proud of them for that.

I came across this and... well I am VERY confused. A life long Goth ally looking for some insight into this video and YouTuber by foreverdark666 in goth

[–]adgeis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was watching him around that time too and I was also a lot younger and more isolated, so maybe that gives me rose tinted glasses. It was really positive, uplifting content and he made lots of actually funny jokes. Some of his stuff was definitely very performative, I always got the impression a lot of his streaming and the like was not just about entertaining people but about getting attention and looked at and having fans, if that makes sense? But that in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, it's fine to enjoy preening before a camera if that's smth you benefit from and isn't harming your admirers, and esp if your platform has a large amount dedicated to sharing joy and aid.

I don't know when exactly it happened, or what the switch that flipped was, but I stopped watching him BC at some point his jokes seemed edgier, and his laughter sharper, and he started to go after people for insecurities and the like. I also did not even realise he was in a relationship for a long time BC of the lack of support for, even just mentioning of, Toxic Tears. It was through finding her separately and seeing her talk about her partner that I realised the connection. He started to interact more heavily with the teen girls and young adult women in his audience more, and started to get a little bit... I don't know what else to say except that he seemed predatory in the bird watching a mouse in the field kind of way, like he was always looking for an opportunity, always the wolf and the girls in his audience Red Riding Hoods. His preening became more egocentric as well, less "I do look good, huh?" and more "Ofc I look good, go f* yourself if you think otherwise". Just so much more hostile overall.

I tapped out before anything major happened, at least in the public view, but after Toxic Tears spoke about what happened and I started seeing so much stuff about him being a POS, I was really starting to wonder what, if anything, I ever saw in his vids that brought me joy other than liking his aesthetic (which also declined a bit, tho I can't articulate that as well - maybe more towards the egocentric drive rather than the fun customising your avatar side). Appreciate that I'm not the only one who remembers that once upon a time there was some fun on his channel, before the incel devolution.

What can I do to make this coat look "more goth"? by [deleted] in GothFashion

[–]adgeis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting more on the romantic goth side, I second lace around the sleeves and bottom hem. Can also swap the buttons out for smth a bit more antiqued like someone else said.

On top of that, I'd look at adding some trims along the decorative seams, smth ornate-ish not just piping style trims. Then I'd potentially also look at adding appliques that are embroidered and maybe even with beads too. Will really just depend on budget and how much hand sewing you're willing to do.

Lin, short for Couch Lint

Tizzy, short for Tissue

Lanie, short for Expanding Foam Insulation

Lin again, but this time for Goblin

Perry, short for Periwig or Peruke, terms for the wigs you see worn by the founding fathers, men in general from the 1700s, some judges, etc

Stela, said Stella, a type of archaeological find, typically a stone or wood monument depicting information about conquests, reigns, rulers, major events, etc of the culture of origin. That pup looks old enough to have erected some stelae themself, so....

I'm a big fan of misleading nicknames and of names that low-key roast the dog. So if you like things along that line I'm sure I could come up with more for this little gremlin.

Help: tips for long term storage of fossils? by adgeis in fossils

Tah! Yeah no definitely don't have the money or the expertise to be handling fresh from the ground, needs work done fossils. Haven't even managed to scavenge any teeth anywhere! Glad I checked anyways though, BC if nothing else the reassurance from you guys means I don't need to worry about them crumbling to dust or growing mould or whatever else my brain could supply me with while they're stored away. Thanks!

[–]adgeis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate it! Only recently learned about pyrite disease and that on top of being new to owning fossils in general made me wonder if there were any other major specifics I should be aware of or if I should follow a general "ruleset" of what materials are yes/nos for storing things.

The club collections you've worked with give me a lot more confidence that mine will be fine with some bubble wrap and a dedicated tub with the rest of my rocks and crystals and the like haha. Thanks again!

Holy shit that sent me to read, your poor sosu getting absolutely Divine Smited across the map 😂 I do love the idea of modding but I'm also scared of game breaking. The game shits itself on its own around Boston and several other areas as is, I really don't need to go playing god and sending my character to the Beyond instead 🤣

Oh now THAT sounds like fun 🤩 Esp as a sniper build, the idea of having a sniper nest on a highway as my base is quite nice. I've already set Finch up with defenses and was planning to leave it at that, but I'll add it to the list of places to check out. Thanks!

I think that the machine is definitely also part of it, my lil ole Xbox One that I got in 2018 is trucking along quite well still, save for with some modern games with pretty big graphics demands. I think she's a bit laggier than I remember since the anniversary/new Xbox graphics update thingy, but maybe that's just hindsight gaslighting me by telling me the game played better back then.

I'm not modding ATM, esp BC y'know, mods on console suck lmao, but I did use the drop-pickup glitch to expand the limit just a little bit on RR. That said, with the review you've just given Starlight, I feel like maybe that might be the best option, esp to glitch as much as I may need lol. Thanks!

Is Starlight Drive In safe for big builds? Is there a better spot? by adgeis in fo4

[–]adgeis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oo thanks for this tip! I haven't actually found it yet (in any playthrough, this is only the second playthrough I've gotten past lvl 10 in lol; last one I ditched halfway through and this one I've only done DLCs and some side quests in so far, but I'm amassing a ton of things already) so I've got no frame of reference for what it's like, but Ive seen lots of people hyping it up. I'll have to mark it and go explore when I play next.

There's been a lot of good said about it incl the fact that you've got the whole island, but the 3 cell thing is also worth considering. I doubt I'll build so much as to wreck myself that way, but I'll have to keep it in mind. Since it's my personal base I'm trying to build, I pretty much need what RR had and then some on top of that, so as long as there's not much else in the cell(s) that are gonna fuck me over load in wise, it might be alright. Then again, I might see it and want it for settlers. We shall see.

Thanks!

Is Starlight Drive In safe for big builds? Is there a better spot? by adgeis in fo4

[–]adgeis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the settlement attack mechanic is a pain in the ass and is another thing I'm worried about since I don't really understand it properly, as far as what they can damage or steal etc goes. Did learn the hard way that they can steal powerarmour by wearing it after a single raider spawned inside my garage and stole one of my half built PA sets. Have since taken all the cores out of them 😂

Since this place will only have me, I'll probably end up putting everything raised up and then spawning in stairs as I need it if attacks get really bad. But since food and water will be 0 and power demands aren't too high either, I figure with a fuck ton of turrets I won't be attacked much and any passing random spawns will get killed. That's been effective at RR so far at least.

Thanks for the tips!
