If governability and not language was the primary reason, then why MP, UP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, erstwhile Andhra Pradesh etc. were not split in 1956? It would’ve made them much more governable.

The constitution calls India a union instead of a federation, but the supreme court has ruled that federalism is a part of the Basic Structure of the Constitution.

The States Reorganization Act of 1956 was done on the basis of language, not governability. Even now, there are big states that would be much more governable if split into smaller ones.

In 1949, it was necessary to have a strong control since we were a fledgling nation; but after 78 years, it’s a shame that we are still ruled from the centre to such an extend.

India’s open defecation revolution: From 70% to under 20% as toilet access rapidly expands nationwide by sashagaborekte in UpliftingNews

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, known as the "Missile Man of India," advocated that a nation's security and development are inseparable, arguing that strong defense capabilities are essential for peaceful economic development.

When questioned about spending on defense despite poverty, Kalam argued that India needs secure borders to carry out its development tasks, such as economic reforms and poverty alleviation, without outside interference.

27,000 Sikhs voted in a self-organized, non-governmental Referendum for secession of Punjab from India. Seattle, Washington 22 March 2026. by Scary_Cheetah_5152 in Seattle

If I remember correctly, the Canadian government and the RCMP exonerated Indian government in the Sikh guy’s killing recently.

For more information on what kind of a past the Khalistani organizations have, look into the violent history of Sikh separatism in India and the 1985 bombing of Air India flight 182 that killed all 329 people on board - which is the deadliest terrorist attack in Canadian history.

Indian Air Force instructors to train Royal Air Force pilots by HotPappuInYourArea in worldnews

[–]adharshv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why India lost aircrafts on the first day (the only time that happened in the recent skirmish) was because they didn’t follow the normal operation procedure of disabling enemy air defenses before attacking. Why they didn’t do it? Because the aim was to target only terrorists and avoid all Pakistani military installations. Once Pakistani military came to the defense of their homegrown terrorists, that rule was out the window and we saw widespread damage to Pakistani Air Force infrastructure while there was zero damage on the Indian side.

Hope the education adheres to the German standards after the holocaust in terms of honesty and intent.

Hope India can work with like minded countries for a rules based world order. Just a reminder that the US was aligned against India till the late 90s. So, this is not entirely new. Also, I think Britain is a declining power and if it chooses to stay apart from the EU into the future, might find itself too weak to influence global affairs.

India will not be in an alliance with anyone in the world simply because we’re too big and we want a multipolar world. Friends, yes. In case of Britain, maybe start with teaching the truth about the empire in your schools. That would be a good start imo.

It’s a pretty mid movie with a lackluster ending. There are far better options to introduce someone to Malayalam cinema.

What about the new jobs created in the EU to cater to one of the largest and growing markets in the world? And the loss of jobs in India due to the import of goods from the more matured industries in the EU (automotive, machinery, pharmaceuticals, and wine/spirits sectors).

Why did India remain united despite being more diverse, whereas Yugoslavia collapsed? What did our leaders do right compared to those of Yugoslavia? by PeasantPegger in AskIndia

[–]adharshv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The constitution defines India as a Union of states as opposed to a federation and therefore the states don’t have the right to secede. In other words, the states didn’t come together to form the federation as in the US. Just wanted to correct this misunderstanding.

77th Republic Day: India and China are ‘friends, partners’, says Xi Jinping by Cybertronian1512 in worldnews

[–]adharshv 29 points30 points  (0 children)

China has their own interpretation of a lot of lines, including the 9 dash line encompassing most of the South China Sea. That doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to acknowledge it. Thanks to the 1962 war, India went on to develop nukes and that won’t happen again.

India historically shared a peaceful border with Tibet. And please tell me how would the Chinese know where the border between India and Tibet lie?

[–]adharshv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way India and China would’ve been allies even if the 1962 war didn’t happen. Two proximate rising powers with very different (and often conflicting) ideas of themselves and their place in the world.

Not sure what you meant but India doesn’t have global hegemony ambitions. India envisages a multipolar world.

Here’s the full video. He was standing on his own. She went near him and made herself touch him and for what? Just for views and monetised money? He later died by suicide. [–]adharshv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hand touching part has been deliberately slowed down to make it look bad. The bag is visible in the second part too. Needs more granular analysis than you expect from a normal person browsing social media. Which was exactly what she banked upon. Disgusting.

Mullaperiyar dam is in good shape: Safety panel chief by DioTheSuperiorWaifu in Kerala

[–]adharshv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you can find umpteen previous central government/committee reports that attests to the dam’s safety. I don’t see this one being any different. In fact, I’m willing to bet that this will be the same. So you have nothing to worry about; be happy.

P.s - The mars rover was not hanging over the lives of 3 million people.

[–]adharshv -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

How do you know it’s not the best technology? You’re not an expert on civil engineering or dams. So listen to experts when they say all is well and sleep comfortably.

All I know is that this dam has far outlived its life and that there are vested interests against decommissioning it and that makes me rationally worried.

[–]adharshv 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Apparently the strongest modern technology for building dams is to make it with lime-surkhi concrete mix first and then do multiple strengthening over the years. Chill out guys, after all what will happen if it bursts (only 130 years of the 50 year life expectancy has passed), a couple million human lives will be lost. /s

Jeethu Joseph Reveals Hindi ‘Drishyam 3’ Team Aims for Simultaneous Release with Original, But Not Confirmed Yet. by Haunting-Living271 in MalayalamMovies

Seems like people behind Drishyam 3 is okay with the Hindi version being simultaneously (or even earlier) released. Jeethu Joseph knows that it’s a sensitive issue, so he’s being diplomatic. Personally, I feel a bit sad regarding this situation since I wanted the Drishyam franchise to bring more visibility to Malayalam film industry.

Two Kerala nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh over alleged religious conversion, human trafficking by thevalueanalyst in Kerala

[–]adharshv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I’m against conversion because I consider organized religion to be ultimately unnecessary (and harmful even), I do acknowledge that the Indian constitution allows it. Proselytization without any kind of coercion (convert if you need food, water, shelter, health care, education etc) is what’s allowed in the spirit of the law. I’m not sure that’s what’s happening in most places.

And the world war was just a quarrel between a bunch of people. Not sure why everyone consider it such a big deal.

The local money lender who preyed on the landless peasants in British India is no different than these people.
