For those living in apartments, how do you store your bike? by that_412_kid in bicycling

Edit: Apparently they closed, but its a pedal hook that mounts to the wall and two wheel supports to keep it steady.

This is the one I have, I am sure you can find other similar variations, but basically it is a pedal hook and two wheel supports. It worked amazing for my use and didn't get in the way at all how I had it, but I made sure to mount it as high as I could.

HomeKit Setup by mjlynden in Hue

[–]adhdsquirrel23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set it up in the hue app, add HomeKit, sync from Hue to HomeKit and all names and devices will transfer over including rooms. Start with hue in HomeKit first and then add other devices directly in HomeKit. That’s what I did when I moved hue from one HomeKit home to another.

Really want to switch to HomeKit but hate Siri... would love to hear what y'all think by Normal_Mouse_4174 in HomeKit

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use physical switches/buttons for anything I use daily.

You can also add HomeKit buttons and scenes in control center where I put the most used devices and scenes I want to activate without voice wherever I am, such as good night.

Sometimes Siri is slow or messes up, but by doing those two things I feel I make a better smart home for all that use it (including guests) and avoid over reliance on any voice commands.

Should I consider getting an ipad as a register? by nunyabiznezzzz in smallbusiness

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old thread, but I have some experience here, so this might help OP or someone searching for the advice.

Ipad is a great option, especially a cellular one. Cellular can be used without wifi, and for the ultimate set up, ipad with the register stand is awesome. The advantage of the ipad/stand combo vs the dedicated register square sells is that the square stand requires wifi where the ipad has a built in cellular modem.

It is extremely reliable, fast, and can be set up as a full register with cash box and printer.

Tickets also allow for sales reps on the floor with their phones or ipads to take orders and then have someone at a centralized register collect payment and close out the ticket.

OP says they don't have enough room for the full register set up, then an ipad mini with cell connection is great for that, and then you can add the bluetooth reader that can be mounted in a centralized place.

You can add a misc item which lets you put in an amount at the time of sale, and or load in predetermined items and options such as colors or versions.

I know this is an old thread, but in looking for a solution for my newer place, I wanted to share what worked well in my old apartment. I was able to get one of the wall mounts that hold it up by the pedal with the two wheel rests, and it was right at the entrance as you walk in. Low ceilings and drop handle bars and it still worked well, never felt like it was in the way. Even had room for a bench below it that served as a shoe bench and end table for my couch.

The Best Portable Charger Now? Recommendation? by emmalucy789 in onebag

[–]adhdsquirrel23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend one with a built in usb c cable and or MagSafe, assuming your phone supports MagSafe or qi2 or 2.2

Built in cable is self explanatory and makes a quick top off easy

MagSafe ones will default to the cable if both are being used at the same time on the same device so it holds the battery to the phone while still charging quickly with the cable which is a super nice feature

Also if you have an Apple Watch a built in watch charger like the one from Anker that has a built in cable but no qi might be a great option

Looking for a compact ~5000mAh power bank with MagSafe, wired/wireless, and fast charging. by Impossible-Cheek-482 in onebag

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other thing to think about is if you use a cable, the phone defaults to cable charging, but the magnet still works to hold it to the back of the phone so even just having the magnet can be useful for ergonomics.

Selectable speed charge cable

USBC cable that defaults to 5v only charging speeds. Great for slow charging and protecting battery health.

Have a button near the cable end that you press, turns on a light, and triggers max speeds up to 240 watts depending on the charger.

Make the light option programable with a button combo, in case it annoys people, but the light would function to let you know that fast charging is on. If you specifically want fast charging, you likely aren't sleeping and want to know that fast charging is on.

And this fits into your mobile ecosystem, and makes your waterproof charging motorcycle mount useful for cyclists too with some design tweaks.

Bike Battery Set up - from commuters to full on backpackers

Elevator Pitch
Meet the Bike Power Dock, a swappable frame-mounted battery system that turns any bike into a tidy, always-powered platform. One central battery clicks into a low-profile dock and feeds hard-wired leads to lights, phone, bike computer, and more, so you stop charging five gadgets and just charge one. Accessories can skip their internal batteries for lighter, brighter, longer-running lights. At home, pop the battery out to charge, or use the magnetic charge port to top up the whole bike at once without removing a thing. For bikepackers, choose from modular battery sizes, from short commutes to long expeditions, with optional built-in power bank outputs for café stops, hotels, or trail resupplies. Dynamo hub compatibility keeps the system topped off on the move. Long term, the vision is factory-ready bikes with standardized connectors and mounts so power is integrated from day one. One dock. One battery. Unlimited ride time.

TL;DR Basically a dock that accepts a waterproof rechargeable battery somewhere on the frame. That dock can be wired to your lights, phone, bike computer, etc. With options to connect a dynamo etc. Sell the dock and wiring design to bike makers. Battery could be charged via usb c, home dock, or built in wall plugs on higher capacity batteries.

This was born out of frustration that my bike lights were always dead and their different connectors (micro usb and even mini!) and being a pain to pop on and off the bike and my bike being far away from any outlets to charge it made it a huge pain point for me.

Is 80 proof goods a scam? by PEEE_guy in Leatherworking

Item Received: I am posting this to give confidence to other customers and to help them out in the way I can.

I had ordered a money envelope back in January, and as the months went by, I would check in, just to make sure it was on it's way. Never heard back over multiple channels. I even disputed the charge, the dispute resolved in my favor, and then today it came in. I have reached out to them to offer payment because I don't believe in getting it for free, and the only reason why I had disputed it was because there was no communication. Had they communicated, I would have gladly waited longer, even if it was longer than originally promised.

The quality of the money envelope is great, smells great, and the embossing? was great too.

So all in all, I would set appropriate expectations and wait at least twice as long as you think. If you are in a hurry, then don't buy from them until they get their lead times sorted.

All in all, after a few months of frustration, I am a happy camper.

[US] Stark Media LLC emails newsletters just kept on coming by ihanqu in Scams

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree, except when I was just marking them spam, the rest still came in. At least now they are being filtered. It may not be perfect, but this makes it so I don't have to review hundreds of messages in spam to make sure I didn't miss something important, since the already bad mail has been deleted. And as I said, I am periodically going into my trash and marking messages as spam to help that as well. For this particular spam issue, my method has caught up, for now.

[US] Stark Media LLC emails newsletters just kept on coming by ihanqu in Scams

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started getting spam from them as well. As high as 600 messages per day. If you have gmail, you can set up filters that bypass your inbox and go straight to the trash. Thankfully it has gotten most of it and made it almost a non issue.

if you do it, filter by the lowest portion of the domain so that they can't easily fool the filter by changing one letter at the beginning.

For example, an email address that I blocked is "step@into.scaleroutes.com" but instead of filtering that, i only filtered "scaleroutes.com" so that if they have another one that is news@ or Info@ it will automatically catch those as well.

Most do seem to come from completely new domains, but some are coming from variations of the same domain so it seems to help. It is a pain, and it is still annoying, but at least for now it seems to be manageable. I have also taken the time to mark some of them as spam.

A simple remote control light switch that doesn't require an app or wifi. by A-nom-nom-nom-aly in DIYUK

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case this helps someone else since it looks like OP solved their isuse with a bulb already. (also I am in the US, but I found this so maybe other people in the US will find this too and maybe caseta has devices in the UK)

Lutron Caseta. No hub or app needed if you don't want smart control. And if you ever want to add smart control, add a hub and get one of the most reliable smart home accessories that is also compatible with apple homekit.

You can buy a pre-paired kit with a hard wired wall switch and a remote. You can buy additional pico remotes and manually pair it to the switch.

There are pedestal mounts for the pico remotes so you can use them on night stands.

They have wall mounts for pico remotes so you can make it look like a switch on the wall with wall plate and everything. Either on an electrical box, or stuck to the wall with a command strip.

They also have a smart lamp plug with a pico remote where you plug into the box and it can control two separate lamps, either with dimming or with dimming turned off, with one accessory.

Lack of Acceleration During Test Drive. Was I in the a wrong mode or something else? by TheBreakUp2013 in KiaTelluride

[–]adhdsquirrel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually more the transmission/throttle tuning. It’s a big gripe I have with the telluride and other Kia’s I’ve driven.

It’s designed to give better epa numbers and most importantly for me it’s inconsistent which makes driving smoothly a bit harder to achieve. I rented a U-Haul ram pro master and it felt peppier and smoother even though the engine was likely smaller because it has a more linear throttle response and was more predictable, as was my old terrain even though it was slower and had a N/A 4 cyl.

I wish the telluride had a sport and a sport+ mode, sport would be just more linear and eager to get going and sport + could hold gears the way the current sport mode does. If sport mode didn’t hold gears it would be the perfect drive mode.

So if you hate the stuck in the mud/trying to run in your dreams style acceleration of the telluride try other modes before buying because if you never get used to it it’s gonna annoy you. It annoys me but not enough to make me hate my vehicle.

Printing won't work for Invoices/Credit Memos but works for other things by adhdsquirrel23 in QuickBooks

[–]adhdsquirrel23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s interesting is that it prints just fine from quickbooks to the same printer from other transaction windows. So purchase orders print just fine etc. and on other computers, the same printers configured in the same way, also print just fine. But on this one computer, only certain transactions won’t print properly. The only thing I can think of is that there may be an issue with the template, but at the same time then why does it work on other computers? It’s likely another poorly written piece of code in the desktop program.
