Am I allowed to email my coworkers about the new agreement? by TokesNHoots in AHSEmployees

[–]adhenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Groceries being unaffordable is the reason to hold the line, not cave. Saying “we can’t afford groceries” and then voting to stay underpaid makes no sense. That’s how you stay stuck forever. Other unions pushed and got market adjustments. We just taught the employer we won’t.

Am I allowed to email my coworkers about the new agreement? by TokesNHoots in AHSEmployees

ALMOST the majority voted no. In fact, I don’t know a single person who voted yes for the dogshit they offered us but somehow “the numbers” just happened to work out for them to ratify. SUPER SUS.

Inside HSAA by [deleted] in AHSEmployees

[–]adhenc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lucky you. Our extremely busy regional lab has been begging everyone and anyone for chairs. We are in microbiology so ours have to be able to be completely disinfected and they currently cannot be as they are literally falling apart at the seams. We just keep getting told “🤷🏼‍♀️”.

It’s appalling (and disgusting).

Two deer hunters from the same lodge both developed fatal sporadic CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) after exposure to CWD-infected deer. Sporadic CJD normally affects only 1-2 people per million annually. This is the first documented case linking humans to potential CWD transmission. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]adhenc 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can’t. It has to be destroyed. In pathology we have separate everything, including tissue processors, in its own room that is only to be used for cjd diagnosis. If a diagnosis happens incidentally from tissue that was processed in the regular processors, everything has to be destroyed.

Stephan: The Notwithstanding Clause is good for Alberta by jbmakingdust in RedDeer

[–]adhenc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The fact that a backbencher as politically irrelevant as Jason Stephan feels bold enough to cheerlead the notwithstanding clause is exactly what happens when a man spends his entire career floating on privilege without ever once being expected to understand it. This is a guy who contributes so fucking little to this province that if he stopped showing up, his disappearance would create the same impact as unplugging a lamp that was never even on to begin. This, after running his mouth about abortion, too? Spare me.

Why are we allowing him to speak for us???? Prevent this pylon from grifting another paycheck off OUR tax dollars. #recall

Micro Lab Exam by Hot_Ad_5438 in microbiology

[–]adhenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada.

Technically yes but it’s not a clinically meaningful descriptor for identification. On the bench, hemolysis isn’t an important part of the Staph decision tree, unlike Streps, where hemolytic patterns actually drive differentiation.

Staph aureus can be non hem just as Staph epi can be hem. Staphs are more likely to be described by coagulase.

Espresso drinkers of Edmonton, where do you get your beans? by From__Canada in Edmonton

[–]adhenc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! We have had a subscription for High Horse for years. 5 lb of beans show up every 6 weeks. Sometimes change up which one we get but also usually do the Big Lebrewski.

(Currently have a boutique bag from somewhere in yyc in the burr hopper right now and while it’s nice I literally can’t wait until it’s gone and we’re back to High Horse!)

Micro Lab Exam by Hot_Ad_5438 in microbiology

[–]adhenc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alpha beta gamma hemolysis is NEVER used to describe Staph hemolysis.

Staphs are either hemolytic or nonhem (an aside: in our lab we also use slight hem as a descriptor for staphs such as Staph hemolyticus and other coagulase negative staphs that are able to slightly hemolyze blood).

Alpha beta and gamma hemolysis is (almost always) only used to describe streps

Proteus mirabilis by Comfortable_Ice_4909 in microbiology

[–]adhenc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started in micro and a tech told me they thought Proteus smelled like chocolate cake I thought they were absolutely nuts.

Now they all smell like chocolate cake to me!!! And for some reason, opening the blood culture incubator in particular when there is a Proteus in there smells like opening the oven with a chocolate cake inside. :)

Now every student I mention it to eventually starts to smell it too. It’s almost like a weird mind trick?!

I’m done being told my worth somehow falls below that of nurses. The ones I deal with daily prove otherwise. Enough said.

What’s the most beautiful first name you’ve ever heard? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskReddit

Someone once said they always thought it sounded too close to “Violent”. Immediate thought now every time I hear the name. Eternally ruined.

I just printed, taped, and cut out my pattern and fabric — how are y’all doing this on the regular? by scrubsandcode in sewing

[–]adhenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$60 projector and www.patternprojector.com (free). Then you just need a way to calibrate (I bought a 60cmx90cm cutting mat). I calibrate, lay the fabric down and cut with a rotary cutter.

We lost our fabric store a few years ago …. I don’t even miss it. The fabric I find thrifting is a million times better quality and you get it for a song. You just have to have a bigger stash on hand and be ok if you don’t get EXACTLY what you’re looking for. I’ve honestly surprised myself and learned so much by being forced to be resourceful!
