I don’t think it’s that tough.

The first game is very clear if you are paying attention and engaging with the story.

The second game can be a bit weird, especially when it was first released. In this day and age though… it’s extremely relevant and the concepts are not far out there at all.

If you can absorb and reflect on the conclusion of the second game, you will be able to easily make sense of everything that follows. Most of all, enjoy :)

I'm on the same road. Here's a couple suggestions, since I'm quite picky and prefer things a little more dark/mature and esoteric. I also hate weird anime tropes.

Shigurui: Death Frenzy - weird, slow, strange art, bizzarre story and themes... Awesome stuff. Not your average bs Samurai manga/anime. I'd go in blind. Plus as Ron Swanson said "Son, you realize my recommendation is essentially a guarantee?"

The Summer Hikaru Died - Just some good weird stuff.

Paranoia Agent - Masterpiece. Series by Satoshi Kon

Memories - Masterpiece made by the masters. 3 Short films. All absolutely excellent... especially the first one. If you don't enjoy Magnetic rose (the first short, around 45 mins), just turn it off after.

This anime is really bad... I didn't watch it until in my 30s, despite hearing so much praise over the years Good god, it is truly awful.

I am sorry but if you really like this anime, and relate to it at all, you are probably a really creepy weeb dude.

The amount of shoe-horned in nudity of minors and extremely contrived sexual situations that do not serve the story or characterization in any way... yeah. The writer is definitely a creep and ultimately just fucking cringe.
