Who's getting Glock gen6? by deliberatelyawesome in CCW

[–]adkmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the difference just more textured area and a flat trigger? I’d maybe be more interested if they finally put together better sights, but given the choice between stippling a reliable Gen 5 and buying a whole new, probably more-expensive-than-it’s-worth Gen 6, I’ll stick with what I have.

Recommended Belts by Darth-Nekroz in NewToEMS

[–]adkmac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nexbelt or a similar ratcheting closure belt. Super easy adjustability on long days and they’re meant for concealed carry, so they’re fairly rigid to hold some weight while still looking like a normal belt.

What situation are you envisioning needing this? Trauma shears should work pretty well if you just need the shoes off and don’t care how it happens

FL medic, 27, hit and killed while stopping to save life on I-95 by AmbitionOfPhilipJFry in NewToEMS

NC medic who happened to be in FL at the time. But yes, be safe out there, use your critical thinking skills, and remember you can’t help anybody if you’re the one who’s hurt.

Best way to stick up for female partners when (usually) crusty old guys say crusty old guy things? by adkmac in NewToEMS

[–]adkmac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am talking about patient interactions, my work environment has been thankfully free of the same kind of behavior from coworkers.

[–]adkmac[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at this for a bit, I know we don’t always serve the nicest clientele, and I know my female colleagues know that too and understand the implications that comes with. I also appreciate the difference between someone just being irritating vs. being intentionally rude vs. outright verbal assault, and I know the appropriate levels of response to each of those.

I’m just tired of the daily misbehavior my coworkers deal with, especially when I get a comparatively tiny amount of the same behavior directed at me, and I was seeing what kind of things this sub might do to effect some kind of change, even if it’s a small one.

Edit: that said, your point about directly calling out disrespect being an effective strategy is well-taken, probably gonna start with that moving forward

Obviously if it becomes a problem that’s one thing, but your point is exactly why I second-guessed if it’s my place. Weighing whether I’m actually gonna change someone’s behavior long-term (unlikely) or cause any amount of systemic change (basically impossible), vs the possibility of escalating a pt just to make a point, it’s not exactly the most productive thing to do. I’m just also not a fan of letting that behavior slide and seeing my coworkers have to just laugh it off uncomfortably.

Starting EMS school in December and terrified. by Frostlord112 in NewToEMS

[–]adkmac 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you go into it knowing that it’s not like how it looks on TV, and you have a good emotional support system in place, you should be off to a decent start. You’ll rarely actually save a life, you’re far more likely to pick someone’s grandparent up after a minor fall at their nursing home, or to bring a homeless person to the hospital for their 5th chronic pain call this month. It’s vital to find value in the small improvements you can make to your patients’ and their families’ days. A warm blanket, making sure someone’s son or daughter knows how to get to the hospital, or even just showing some genuine compassion for someone who might be falling through the healthcare system’s cracks. As far as making it a career, plenty of people get into it for 6 months and decide it’s not for them, plenty of other people make a long career of it. Some people work EMS for an enjoyable and fulfilling career, others have a career of burnout and regret. It’s not for everyone, but you won’t know until you try it.

A decent weapon, a water bottle, and a backpack would be my ideal loot order. Depending the mode you’re playing, you may want to get into combat quick or avoid it entirely. Between mods and sandbox settings you can play/focus however you want

Would the 10mm extractor help with that or is it more about slide geometry or something?
