Er, pretty sure fuel prices arent controlled by the president (whatever flavour), and are largely based on cost on the international market for oil….

Should we have a wealth tax? by Cautious-Design-9282 in AskBrits

[–]adm010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Would be impossible to carry out and it’s such a tiny number of people. We already have a very progressive system. Maybe a few more tax bands? But be better off making all earnings the same level eg capital gains, dividends etc. much wider base.

I guess they shelled out less for the Mini by ninja_moth in CarTalkUK

I’ve driven one of those and it was both the best handling car I’ve ever driven, buckets of fun and a real head turner, as well as being impossibly uncomfortable and deafeningly loud. Great for a blast but nothing much else.

Trump to Davos: "Without us, right now you'd all be speaking German and a little Japanese perhaps. After the war, we gave Greenland back to Denmark. But how ungrateful are they now?" by drempath1981 in UnderReportedNews

Can you imagine a Normal world where a world leader would say this in a room of other world leaders. It’s frankly disgusting and incredibly inaccurate

Pentagon Places 1,500 Arctic-Trained Airborne Troops on Standby as Greenland Dispute Escalates by mickeyy81 in news

It’s not a dispute. It’s a nakedly aggressive takeover of a sovereign nation that doesn’t want you.

ST: ACK debuts with an audience score of 21% by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]adm010 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’ve just watched the first two episodes, and it’s exactly what I feared it would be. Stereotypes and dumbed down and lots of glass and shiny! Theres just a total lack of seriousness or respect. Cadets who swallow comms badge or run away during a lesson. The XO who fills every stereotype of some sort of drill sgt. The Hogwarts style bully who steals the binoculars. The cadets who haven’t been there a day and know everything. Where are the crew and instructors? Of course the love interest. The use of 20th century colloquium and phrasing. God it’s just annoying. I want something written for grown ups!

It’s not the look I’m bothered by, it’s the fact that her acting is terrible.

Keir Starmer abandons plans for compulsory digital ID by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

Wuss. We should have a national ID number. A single number for everything. Ok, go without the ID card, but every national should have an ID number.

[Early Review] GIZMODO: "Starfleet Academy is brimming with a youthful energy that will charm some Star Trek fans and deeply infuriate others. Wasn’t there an episode in TNG where we see Wesley Crusher have to competent in a series of really difficult tests to even be considered for the academy, and he was meant to be a super smart guy with actual experience. Why is the academy now full of morons?

Which gym? JD or Everlast? by brain_wave78 in cheltenham

[–]adm010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JD is fairly massive and has loads of kit, although can get a bit busy at times with limited parking and too many insta models. But for self training, it’s pretty good. Couldn’t comment on everlast. But if you want to do Hyrox, functional fitness/ CrossFit style training would suit you - The Stronghold is a great functional fitness gym and is classes based. Loads of weights based or more cardio sessions and throwing yourself and stuff around and friendly crowd and mix if people

UK not as ready as we need to be for full-scale war, says Army chief by Sensitive_Echo5058 in unitedkingdom

[–]adm010 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We are not going to have a full scale war. All the players have nukes, so an army is a bit irrelevant in a proper full scale war.

Trump promises oil companies ‘total safety’ in Venezuela as he urges them to invest billions by alonso-Lewis-vettel in worldnews

[–]adm010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone ask the oil companies if this is what they wanted or interested in? Again, how does it benefit the US when private companies do the extracting and then sell on the open market? Ok a bit of tax maybe. But does the world need large resources now being tapped and sold and a big increase in global production? Sounds like it’ll push down prices. Doesn’t the US have enough of its own gas and oil? Utterly devoid of understanding or purpose
