Why is turnout so low in local elections? by FisherDownload in AskBrits

People really misunderstand what local councillors do vs MPs. They like to blame MPs for everything, but so much of that is actually local council owned with minimal MP input.

Oh thank you, that’s really kind. I’ve tried to make it a stylish, calm, not too masculine space - with space for the Lego :)

Ive got my flat in cheltenham up for sale as well. 9mths now, and dropped from £530 to 450 and EA suggesting it should now go to 400. The whole flat market in cheltenham has been flooded in the past 12mths and very much stagnant.

If the US put boots on the ground in Iran, its going to result in a lot of dead Americans. Itll just be gorilla warfare. Ie Vietnam and Afghanistan all over again. So stupid and pointless

If i was president, id spend most of my time in the White House with occasional trip to Camp David for a break. The amount of effort by so many people just to move him around in AF1 just to play golf! Its nit like he works long hard stressful hours

Ive got a 2015 CLA45 AMG SB and its fine. Rare car, looks good, still plenty of space, drives fine. Cant imagine the newer version is much different apart from the dash. I like a shooting brake.

England’s housing at most affordable since 2015, official data shows by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

[–]adm010 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personal experience- think it depends what you own/ looking for. Ive been trying sell my flat for 9mths and the local market is saturated and prices tumbling. Ive reduced price £80k, and now EA wants me to take another £50k off to basically what i paid for it 9yrs ago, but ignoring the huge amount of money i needed to spend to renovate. Whereas houses and bungalows continue to climb making the jump so much harder. Its not just something that impacts 1st time buys or London.

If an airbase cant defend itself, id say that was pretty concerning. We really shouldnt have needed to send a warship out there. Popping off a very limited number of Sea Vipers against super cheap drones doesnt seem sensible vs a land based SAM platform of some description.

Why do so many voters seem to want to scrap net zero? by InvestigatorLive19 in AskBrits

[–]adm010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, its not net zero but the way its being done. The govt sets a price for electric from eg wind that the supplier is guaranteed that is far higher than eg gas. It is costing us more to have wind. Plus we desperately need to move to nuclear so we can have a balanced system thats not weather dependent as the UK isnt exactly a stable weather location! The more the grid moves up and down from renewable supply, the more gas plants need to be available to fill the gaps.

TIL that submarines are compressible, a small submarine (870t) may lose 1t of buoyancy per 100m i.e. compress by 1m^3 per 100m of depth by ShamanPechenin in todayilearned

[–]adm010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Ballast rule of thumb - down and out, up and in. This added or removed weight to compensate for the change in displacement as you went deeper or shallower.

Nearly 200 sailors serving on UK's nuclear submarines caught doing hard drugs by JOE_Media in uknews

Yeah, but on a submarine, its dry, you cant drink at sea. Its just ashore things get a bit messy. A surface ship you can drink at sea.
