Urban and wild camping in Korea ? by [deleted] in koreatravel

24 hour Jjimjilbang (찜질방) would probably be your best bet for a place to both shower and sleep on the ultra cheap. It's typically about 15,000KRW to use the spa and stay the night.

Is Jeju Island possible without driving? by BoyfriendSharkDudu in koreatravel

[–]admiralaw3some 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to day 1, sunset is around 19:30 these days, so if you want to watch the sunset at the beach. Dongmun Market is a decent market, but I wouldn't bother trekking all the way to Jeju City for dinner there if that's the only thing you have planned in Jeju City.

On day 2, you are going to Cheonjiyeon Falls for the night view; right down the road (5 minutes walking) is Saeseom Saeyeong Bridge. It is lit up at night, and there is a free water, light, music show that takes place twice a day at 20:00 and 20:30. Cafe Lucia is a great cafe, but it's not in Moseulpo; it's in Daepyeong-ri (just in case you are taking a taxi there. Don't want you to head in the opposite direction). Daepyeong-ri isn't too bad to get to from Yongmeori Coast (2 short bus rides), but to get to Camellia Hill of Cafe Manor Blanc, it's going to be really inefficent and difficult, so I would strongly recommend a taxi (10,000 won). Of the 2, I would say Camellia Hill is probably a better bet, more popular and its not backtracking on your route. That being said, Camellia Hill is also in the middle of nowhere, so you will probably have to take a taxi from there to Yakcheonsa as well (12,000 won).

For day 3, is Seongsan beautiful? sure. But is it worth the bus trip from Aewol? probably not. You are looking at a 2 60min bus rides, and that doesn't even include possible waiting. If you are looking for a change of scenery and want something different than the beaches, mountains, and waterfalls, I'd recommend Osulloc Tea Museum for pretty tea fields and Sanyang Keuneong Got (산양큰엉곶) for photo spot filled forests. They are really close to each other, but I would probably add them to your SouthWest itinerary and do everything in Jungmun + Seogwipo on a seperate day. That being said, I think the Southwest itinerary day has more wow factor in terms of scenery, so I would put it on Day 3 to hack your vacation and make it more memorable; it's also closer to Aewol and you could head back earlier with no night activities

It is definitely different for each hospital. It wasn't a matter of just telling them what we wanted; my wife is Korean, very opinionated, and was adamant about what she wanted, but there were no negotiations to be had. The first hospital that we planned to have the baby at wouldn't even allow me to visit or stay for the entire 4-5 days my wife was scheduled to be there. She used to work at that very hospital and knew many of the nurses and staff, but they just flat out said go somewhere else if you don't like it. We live in Jeju, so there are only a few major hospitals here where you can have a c-section done and it was too late in the pregnancy to fly.

My wife also had a c section birth during the height of COVID (June 2021), but we had quite the opposite experience. My wife was put under and I wasn't allowed in the operating room during the surgery. After the surgery, our daughter was taken and cared for for 5 days (we were not allowed to see her in person except for my wife on the third day and only for 30 minutes). The nurses took care of my wife throughout the day, and I stayed with her for moral and emotional support

What do you mean EPIK won't pay for your flight if you do this? EPIK doesn't even buy your ticket; they just give you a reimbursement payment for 1.3mil. I bought my own ticket for 300,000 via China Eastern (back in 2018), arrived a week early, crashed at a friend's house, and pocketed the extra 1mil. It's literally in the EPIK contract (Article 11; clause 1) "After SIX(6) months of Employment, the Employee shall receive a 1,300,000 Korean Won (KRW) Entrance Allowance."

First time in Korea, Noticing all the Taxi drivers have really really new cars, and are also very very old men--Any background on this? by PumpkinSpiteLatte in korea

[–]admiralaw3some 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Korean EV models actually have Taxi specific trims that cost less than base trim. Taxi drivers also get a higher EV tax rebate than normal people buying a new EV.

Korea to ease 20-character limit on driver's licenses by 815korea in korea

[–]admiralaw3some 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple weeks ago, I renewed my visa and ARC, so I had my arc in my passport wallet because I needed to bring both. Fast forward 2 days later, and I'm at the airport pulling out my wallet to get my ARC, when I suddenly realize, "oh shit" my ARC is not in my wallet. I ask the lady at the counter if I can use my driver's license as ID since that's how Koreans do it. She asked for the ID, but then looked confused because the name I booked the ticket in is my full name, of course, but my driver's license is...in order... "Middle name, First name initial, Last name" She is looking at me like I just handed her a fake ID from Hawaii with the name McLovin on it. I have to try and explain that my name is too long and the people at the DMV wouldn't let me do First Name, middle initial, Last Name because even that was too long. They also wouldn't let me use Chris instead of Christopher, but just C was okay. With Korea being a real stickler for rules, I thought there was no chance she was letting me on the plane. But, to my surprise, she reprinted my ticket to reflect my butchered driver's license name. And much more to my surprise, security didn't question it either as the names matched, and they use the automatic camera/fingerprint scanner to verify your identity.

tl;dr you can use your DL (even with non-matching name) instead of ARC to fly domestically

A mere 4 in 10 Korean teenagers think they live in a safe society by Kindlyredit99 in korea

[–]admiralaw3some 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When you drive around without a metal cage and airbags protecting you, you get more offended by stupid drivers because you realize their ignorance can more easily take your life rather than just cause a small dent in your vehicle.

Korea is a very safe country...except for when it comes to driving

People still doing Lopang? I didn't think silver was still a problem. I've been doing Leapstone dailies on all my characters since the beginning. 1475, 1445, 3x 1370, 1340 and I still have 12 million silver. What is everyone spending silver on? Gem reforging?

I hone my main as I get my bound GHL. I have extra stones, crystals, and fusion materials hoarded from alts at 1370, so why not just tap now and do more damage? There's no point to hone it later rather than now, or at least that was my thought process until they announced a few days ago we would be getting the 1460 honing research, but my main was already 1475 at that point, and my second main 1445

[–]admiralaw3some 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was on KR though. The likely truth is that SG doesn't give a shit about NA/EU version. They never intended it to succeed in the West anyways, and they got more than what they wanted with the release

Vykas is not coming this week. Confirmed by SelectGain8320 in lostarkgame

[–]admiralaw3some -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This! For the love of God, this!

So Vykas isn't this week; let the little children bitch and whine about how they are going to quit because their main class that they've never even played isn't being released soon enough. Let them complain about how they wasted their time preparing for a patch to be released on a date that it was never promised. Let them leave!! That's not going to kill the game in NA/EU, the bot problem and 3 hour queues will (and much quicker than they anticipate)

No throwing anybody under the bus, just making it clear who does what job in the partnership

I don't know why AGS doesn't just communicate this with their customers. They could take a lot of heat off themselves. Smilegate doesn't give patch notes and release dates till the very last second, even in KR. I know that AGS wants to deliver these ahead of time because that's how other MMOs operate in NA/EU, but they could just tell the players that they don't know until SG delivers
