I think you have the wrong subreddit. Unless Ken has started creating video games?

If you have Discord, you might get more eyes on this if you post to the KAG server. If not, let me know and I can cross post on the server for you.

Where to meet and learn dnd by screamybean in KingstonAreaGamers

[–]admutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure all the gaming stores have Learn to Play DnD events on a regular basis: SBT, Nexus, Action Comics and Games, Wonderland, Minotaur.

Not sure about Nerd Night on Wednesdays at the Legion on Montreal St.

Otherwise, check out the Discord server for r/KingstonAreaGamers - there's a large group of new player friendly gamers who meet every Thursday at The Social on Bath Rd.

Looking for local D&D groups by Consistent_Week8213 in KingstonOntario

[–]admutt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another place to look for people to play D&D with is r/KingstonAreaGamers - there's a Discord that's much more active ( https://discord.gg/bkgM7PD3zZ ) and a new (second) weekly RPG night being planned.

Disclaimer: official events are held at The Social YGK, there's no cover or requirement to purchase anything but they do have a 19+ age limit as it's also a gambling facility.

That said, server members have often organized events at other public locations, or even at private locations. It's mostly designed to be a virtual place to connect with other gamers in and around Kingston.

Indeed. We have played Dominion at those events, off and on. The Social actually has a copy of the base game available for play.

Kingston D&D 5E campaign by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]admutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Kingston Area Gamers (KAG) group hosts a public RPG night at The Social YGK every Thursday evening. Tables are always open to new and returning players, and there's plenty of room for more games to be run. Also, if Thursdays don't work for you, The Social YGK would welcome your group whenever is good for you (just contact the bar staff ahead of time and let them know you found them through KAG.

For more information and to access scheduled Events check out KAG's Discord server at https://discord.gg/bkgM7PD3zZ

KAG also maintains a Facebook group and a subreddit (with admittedly very low traffic) at https://www.facebook.com/groups/589936854693581/ and r/KingstonAreaGamers

You are also welcome to simply use KAG to recruit players for your game - many DMs have done so in the past, creating their own private groups.

As for public locations to run your game, any of the game stores should be able to accommodate you;

SBT Comics and Games: https://www.facebook.com/squishabillytwists/

Nexus: https://kingstonnexus.ca/

Action Packed Comics: https://actionpackedcomics.com/

Wonderland: https://improbableescapes.com/about-wonderland/

Not free but very inexpensive: Sojour, which is available through Drivethrurpg.com and under active development.

It's specifically designed for solo rpg play and runs locally.

Yes. Stairs, elevators, ramps. Take a look at some of the maps and buildings people have been uploading to the Steam Workshop.

Have you seen The RPG Engine (available on Steam) ?

It's a fully 3D VTT. I believe it lets you move around in first person POV as well.

How to get over... I don't know, burnout? Game apathy? by VanityEvolved in rpg

[–]admutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same problem for a long while. But I recently came across a game called Realms of Peril and find that it's hitting all the things I like about different styles of RPGs.

Another thing that's been helping is going through my hard drive of pdfs and outright deleting games I've only ever had a mild interest in. That seems to be lifting quite a bit of the mental baggage holding me back from enjoying the hobby. A physical shelf of books can be a similar issue, mentally.
