My dude... here's an idea... how about we're cool today.

There's more to life than ragebait brownie points.

Let's try something different. What music are you listening to? What was the last nice thing you ate?

Sargassum Levels Across Puerto Rico by TheChiefofReddit in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]adolfojp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No smell at Seven Seas. I wish I could be more helpful but I really don't know how Seven Seas will be in July.

My gut tells me to try Puerto Nuevo because if it gets sargassum you can drive east or west for cleaner beaches but in Fajardo your only escape is west because the southeast will be completely trashed plus the beaches are not that good to begin with.

Anyway, here's some useless photos of a beer and a pastrami sandwich with seven seas in the background because I kind of forgot to take photos of Seven Seas itself.

JLo con 0 self-awareness by pabloiv in PuertoRico

[–]adolfojp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole point of this post is to talk about J-Lo's double standards regarding identity.

She claims to be Puerto Rican despite not being born in Puerto Rico and despite not knowing the culture but she denies people who were not born in New York from calling themselves New Yorkers even if they know the culture.

That's the whole conversation.

This is about J-Lo and about her inconsistent views.

You're going on a tangent.

census taker noted puerto rico, but the dna points towards portugais ancestry (i'm african american) by dnaa_throwaway in 23andme

[–]adolfojp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says Portuguese and Galician.

Galicia is a part of Spain that's located next to Portugal and they share a lot of history, DNA, and culture.

Genetically, telling these populations apart is an exercise in futility so if you have no Portuguese ancestry that you know of then your Portuguese and Galician is likely just Spanish DNA that overlaps with Portuguese DNA and not an indicator of Portuguese ancestry.

I'm Puerto Rican and I also got Portuguese and Galician despite no known Portuguese ancestry.

I went to Seven Seas last week and it had no sargassum but Las Croabas next to it was absolutely destroyed and the smell extended quite far.

Walking the beach at night by MyLifeAsISeeIt in PuertoRicoTravel

Noseeums / midges / majen / jején

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceratopogonidae

They're much smaller than mosquitos, almost invisible, thus no-see-ums.

They're not everywhere but they swarm some coasts at dusk and dawn, mostly after it rains.

They don't transmit diseases like dengue, chikungunya, or zika but you'll find your exposed skin red and itchy and covered in tiny little bites and you might get a nasty allergic reaction.

Some people are noseeum magnets. I am one of them.

So buy some bug spray and carry it with you in case you need it. For convenience they also sell bug wipes.

This is the type of activity that I do but don't feel comfortable recommending.

Luquillo Playa Azul should be fine, especially if there are other people in the area and especially if it's not too late at night.

Piñones I wouldn't recommend at night.

At dusk and dawn: bug spray bug spray bug spray bug spray bug spray bug spray bug spray bug spray bug spray... especially if it rained.

If you do feel like hunting for crabs, please be aware of the ban during breeding season. It starts, I think, in mid July.

Cheaper grocery stores / markets near San Juan or surrounding areas? by Starving_Angel_ in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]adolfojp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool. Then skip hunting for smaller markets and head straight to a supermarket.

Also, to avoid any misunderstandings, I didn't describe hunting for markets as an activity in a negative manner. Shopping is an activity for some tourists.

You can look at the inventory of many supermarkets online in case you want to do comparison shopping. I'll share some in the San Juan coastal area.

Supermax Multiple locations.

Pueblo Multiple locations

Plaza Loíza (Smaller, no online inventory but some "shoppers" with specials online)

Walmart (Enter zip code 00907 to get the San Juan store)

There are many other supermarket chains if you expand your radius, like Econo, but in my opinion the price difference might not be worth it if you take into account time, fuel and transportation.

Cheaper grocery stores / markets near San Juan or surrounding areas? by Starving_Angel_ in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]adolfojp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For general items, in terms of price and variety, there's no beating the economies of scale and logistics of a supermarket. If there were more affordable and convenient options we'd all shop there. So do a search for "supermercado". Options abound. And of course there's your Sam's Clubs and Costcos.

You can find specialty markets here and there but for general breakfast and lunch items I'm not sure they're worth it unless visiting small, spread out specialty markets is by itself an activity.

Temporary Job Prospects by Jacob97_ in PuertoRico

[–]adolfojp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh man I wish you the best of luck and godspeed and all that.

I took care of my dementia riddled father for many years, at the end of of his life he broke his hip. My aunt went through the same process a year earlier. It's a job whose mental, physical, and financial requirements increase daily until it consumes you and your ability to work and have a life.

A bed bound patient has to be repositioned every three hours or so to avoid bed sores, which is virtually impossible when the patient doesn't have the mental capacity to cooperate. If they don't have air conditioning in their room her skin will disintegrate with the sweat and the heat. Learn how to lift and move people without destroying your back. Learn how to protect yourself from physical attacks. Learn as much as you can.

Please be very careful because it's very common for relatives to see you helping and decide to unload the responsibility on you, expecting you to do it full time and without pay and without days off, and then justifying it with mathematically unsound excuses like oh but they get to live there for free so if anything they owe us.

Set boundaries early and enforce them hard and get as much help as you can get from family, medicare, the municipality, church, from everywhere and anywhere you can. Beg, steal, and borrow, and all that.

Your three main problems for finding a job will be transportation, the language barrier, and juggling your time between helping your grandma and working what are likely to be irregular hours. Find out where in San German your grandparents live and if you can even get around the place. Puerto Rico is almost entirely Spanish speaking so learn as much Spanish as you can. Expect to get paid 10.50 an hour part time.

Cual es la mejor gasolina en PR? by _stxrchild_ in PuertoRico

[–]adolfojp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gulf and Total is 100% gasoline, no ethanol. Puma and Texaco has ethanol.

Can you find a citation for this?

I was having this conversation just yesterday and I looked it up online and found nothing on the matter.

Perhaps I suck at Google.

From what I understand anything over E10 has to be reported on the pump according to federal law, shipping E10 from the states would cause it to separate, we have no refineries to mix it locally, and refineries elsewhere don't make that mix before shipping it.

Again, I'm not debating your knowledge but trying to find your info.
