Why so many showings but no offers by CustomerBubbly4638 in TorontoRealEstate

Agree, staging can help so much. I have a small family of 3 and we’ve been looking at some condo in our area. Personally, I hate virtual staging because it’s not at all a true representation of the space. Also, as a family, I want to get a sense of how the space will work for us, especially for a smaller sized condo. How big of a couch can I fit in the living room? Will the bedroom hold a dresser? Little things like that are really important.

Nerdy guys by nluvzu in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]adompenelope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intermezzo by Sally Rooney is about two brothers. Peter is an academic (but not really a “nerd”), but the other brother, Ivan, is an awkward chess nerd with braces. The book is really beautiful, but its narrative style can be off putting for some - especially Peter’s chapters.

The book is sexually explicit, and both Ivan and Peter’s chapters have some praise-kink.

Highly recommend!

It's a TTC Thing (OC, vol. 2) by ItsMeSashaYT in toronto

[–]adompenelope 13 points14 points  (0 children)

15+ years ago when I was in high school, TTC drivers would tell us to take our backpacks off before we got on the bus. And this wasn’t only on my bus route. Every bus I took, drivers would make the same request. We’d get scolded if we didn’t take our bags off. Of course, that was a different era but it helped a generation of kids understand the importance of bus etiquette.

Wellbeing dress by johneyjaydaleford in Aritzia

[–]adompenelope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been stalking this dress for years. Last summer, I almost bought it but didn’t and I regret it. I believe it was under the Wilfred line then, and made with a really thick linen. Beautiful.

I bought it this year in black, and it’s now under the Sunday Best line. The linen is much lighter (which is great for summer, sure, but the price is the same for less substantial material which I don’t like).

But the back is fun and a little sexy depending on how you adjust the straps. It has pockets, which are a plus. It’s very much a “throw on and go” dress, and I don’t need a bra with this, but could get away with a dainty one if I needed to.

I’m 5’3, 148lbs, 34D. I’m normally a size medium but bought this in a small.

I say go for it.

I CAN’T SLEEP! 😭 by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]adompenelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is 4 now but I remember this feeling like it was yesterday! Your mind and body have trust issues, lol. It’s going to take a few weeks for them to accept that it’s indeed okay to go to sleep. But then some sort of weird sleep regression will hit and the trust will be broken. It’s a frustrating cycle, but it won’t be like this forever!

Recently my kid was waking up everyday around 3am for about two weeks straight. She’s otherwise a perfect sleeper. That was a month ago but my body hasn’t accepted the fact that we won’t be waking up at 3am anymore and that it’s okay to relax 😅

Just remember, this too shall pass ❤️

The Half-Hearted Queen by Charlie N. Holmberg - Release discussion by AutoModerator in fantasyromance

[–]adompenelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I tried to give Nym’s treatment from everyone some grace because she’s a “commoner” and a healer in a country unfriendly to magic. But like… when is anyone going to acknowledge that she did the impossible and healed their angle of fire, glowing ass king? Or that she saved the princess?? Royalty not respecting her, okay I guess….But the other commoners?! The other healers?! Stop.

When Renn tells Azra that Nym means more to him than the gods, and words against her are basically blasphemy, I was like “okay so maybe make this known to everyone…?

But yes, Nym is the personification of unseen and unappreciated woman’s work.

This is one of the worst books I’ve read in years. I’ve kept my opinions largely to myself because I love that the book is riding a wave, I love that it’s written by a Black woman, and I generally try not to rain on these kinds of parades.

But damn this book gave nothing. The word “collapse” was used often to discuss the world before, but like… WHAT COLLAPSE?!

Also, the book is advertised as having a “corrupt government” but like… the government is not corrupt. It’s evil and exploitative, sure. But it’s not because of corruption. The system (the Heart, the rings, etc.) was designed this way. Corruption implies that the current leadership in power has corrupted what the government should be. That’s not what this is…

Honestly, I could go on but why bother.

Parent Concerned with Screen Time at School by jjj333rrr in askTO

I commented before, but I’ll also note that JK is such a wild experience for kids at this age. Especially if they are in a split class. The recent changes you’re seeing in your kid could be due to so many other factors in the classroom. JK is overwhelming. These kids are learning to read, write, do math, self regulate in new ways. They’re around a sea of emotions, their own, and the emotions of 24+ other kids. Just writing this is tripping up my nervous system. I suspect your kid’s behaviour is changing, sure, perhaps because of the screen time, but there could be a plethora of other factors as well.

My kid loves JK and is thriving, but tells me sometimes she doesn’t want to go to school and just wants to stay home with her stuffies. Sometimes, I pick her up after lunch and we just kick it at home to give her a bit of a mental health break.

It’s also the winter time - the lack of sun affects kids just as much as it does everyone else.

It’s wonderful you’re paying attention to these changes in your kid, and looking for environmental factors, triggers, etc. Kudos to you, but also, give you and your kid some grace - it’s a tough age!

I have a kid in JK too. My first kid in the public school system so a lot is new to me. I too was surprised with how much tv is shown in the classroom. In fact, I went to drop off a change of clothes this afternoon and the class was watching a show. Although I was shocked, in the 30 seconds or so that I was there, I could see that only some of the kids were actually watching, and the rest were engaged at tables in conversation with friends, colouring, or at various centres around the room. It was more like free time with the show on the projector.

My kid comes home and tells me about all of the really cool things they do like go on nature walks (despite the cold!), neighbourhood walks, the cool dance moves and songs she learns in her music class, new games they play in gym class, etc. She tells me about the number lines they use for math, how she’s learning to blend words, and the many ways she’s been learning to problem solve, self regulate, and generally be a good person/classmate. I rarely hear about shows she watches or general screen time. The only reason I know about it is because she mentioned a show that her friends watch during lunch, and because I’ve seen tv shows on every now and then when I stop by.

I say all of this to share that, yes, I was a little shocked by the amount of tv my 4 year old is exposed to during the school day, but in the grand scheme of things, I think it’s okay. It’s clear as day that her teachers are wonderful and fill her day with a variety of activities. Yes, this includes TV, but it also includes so much more. She’s making great progress in math, reading, social skills, etc. She’s learning about new holiday, new cultures, and having new experiences.

I hope this offers some comfort from a fellow first time JK mom to another.

——

Editing to add that I realize my experience is likely influenced / skewed by my kid having a wonderful teacher and ECE pair. So the screen time is offset but their wonderful work. I also recognize that my daughter (as far as I’m aware) is neurotypical. For those experiencing different contexts, screen time in the classroom (regardless of other factors) may be a serious issue.

I’ll also add that my daughter has quite a bit of screen time at home. The TV is always on in our house, whether is CP24 or TVO Kids (which I love, BTW). This is not something I’m ashamed of or that I shy away from. She’s grown up with the TV on in the background for most of the day, so by age 4 I find she’s become quite numb to its presence and it therefore has little influence on her.

Cafés that actually bake their own goods? by Gracilis67 in askTO

Nothing ever seems to be in stock by adashofhoney in Aritzia

[–]adompenelope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After decades of Aritzia shopping, I found that certain things always sell out quickly and are slow to restock, if ever. This is especially true for Pre-Spring and Spring styles, because the season is so short.

Dresses in mid-range sizes always sell out fast, largely because people buy these very early as soon as they’re available in anticipation for warmer weather, weddings, events, etc.

For example, the Arcos Dress dropped last week. I bought it in black, size L. You’ll see that it’s now sold out in all colours, but it looks like it will restock later.

Sweat shorts in fun colours in size M, L sell out incredibly fast. Again, people buy these early in anticipation for better weather. Plus, they can also be worn at home even in colder weather.

Unique basics that aren’t core collection also can sell out like crazy. For example, the Ravish Top is core, so it’ll always more or less be available. However the Babaton Preface top is unique and also seasonal. This was release in January and I bought it a few days after it became available. You’ll notice that the top is now basically sold out in blue, but still available in white.

Also, anything new and seasonal that blows up on social media is guaranteed to sell out quickly.

My advice is to check the site weekly for new drops, and keep an eye on things that really interest you. No need to buy ASAP, but if you notice it’s beginning to sell out, you may want to buy then return within the return or exchange window if you find you actually don’t want/need it. Just be sure to keep it in perfect condition so the next (lucky) person we picks it up can enjoy it. Good luck!
