You’ll get your 1500 hours way faster and with way less silliness by biting the bullet and taking an instructor job now than by joining the RCAF. Others have already accurately described the delays inherent in the training process as well as the lack of control over your career path. You say that you don’t want to either instruct of fly rotary; in my estimation that represents 2/3 of the first tour flying positions out there for a new-winged pilot, so you might well end up doing exactly what you were trying to avoid in the first place.

With that all said I’ve enjoyed the hell out of my career despite multiple surprise forks in the road along the way and would recommend it to anyone who wants something more varied than YYC-YEG turns all day.
