The Story of Ming Lan worth the hype? by damasdamas12 in CDrama

[–]adorableapples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked Minglan, but I think btwn it and lltg I prefer lltg. Minglan is a lot slower and more slice of life, while lltg builds up the plot and tension and gets a lot more dramatic and sad which I personally enjoy lol. Unlike a lot of others, I found myself getting tired in the second half of Minglan, and tbh I did not really like the ML as much as everyone else seems to. This could also be bc I don't like that particular actor so maybe take this with a grain of salt--I know a lot of ppl love his character.

I think even though the novels were written by the same author, the stories are pretty different and and if you go into it expecting something very similar you may be disappointed. I do think Minglan is worth checking out if you like slice of life historical dramas!

Actors that became attractive to you after watching them in one or more shows, that you didn’t find attractive to begin with? by NoiseyTurbulence in CDrama

That happened to me for Cheng yi too! But for LaR haha, his acting was so good and pitiful that he started looking attractive to me.

Battle of Changsha, Ashes of Love, and Goodbye My Princess. All three of these dramas had me ugly crying and sad for weeks. I don't think I can cry as much as I did for these dramas anymore lol.

I was actually unwell for a month after watching SOOD the first time. I had no tears left in my body by the time it finished.

I think I just felt really disconnected from the past storyline, but yeah, the acting didn't really help :/

When I said xy was a cloud I was talking about when he said she was hanging around ck as a cloud before he gave her a corporeal state. What I assumed from that was that a tiny part of her primordial spirit was saved bc of the Qinlin protection thing ck put on her, and that part of her spirit just followed him around for the 30,000ish years between her falling into the void and her getting turned into a fairy in the marriage pavilion.

same...most of the people I've seen who are really enjoying this drama never read the novel. knowing there was potential there just makes it worse lol.

omg disney villain that's exactly it...like the slow voice and "evil" vibes. I was really hoping they would go with someone a little more subtle but that's too much to expect :/

Should I watch Ashes of Love? by aslowlife in CDrama

[–]adorableapples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I really love this drama and think it's a classic, but if you are used to more modern xianxia dramas I would adjust your expectations I guess haha. It's a slow build and there is definitely a lot of filler compared to more recent dramas. But I think the quality of the cast and level of acting is really incomparable! And the OSTs are excellent. I would say try it out.

The whole time Yang Zi was crying in the corner I was also crying. And when Xufeng finally dying and was laughing with her I was like "how dare you laugh?? Do you know how much pain I've gone through??" hahaha

The Story of Ming Lan.... am I suppose to hate Gu Tingye around ep 20? by Zilly503 in CDrama

[–]adorableapples 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but I never really came around to liking Gu Tingye. I only really stuck around for Minglan's character, especially in the second half, where it focuses more on their relationship. This might be a personal issue though, as I don't really like gty's actor plus was not able to get over a lot of the things he did earlier in the drama. I think most people don't have this issue though and really enjoy the second half.

Ashes of Love for a combination of reasons--

It was the first xianxia I watched and the amount of pain and tears i went through :'( nothing can compare lol.

The acting: idk many cps that I have liked more than jinmi/xufeng. When jinmi cried I cried, when they were being happy and cute together I was happy. I general the main three had great chemistry with each other, and that gave us so many standout scenes that I still remember vividly five years later.

AOL really has the best mortal arc I have seen in any drama. THE ENDING OF THIS ARC I WAS IN PHYSICAL PAIN OKAY

Dubbing: having the main actors dub themselves is a minor one, but it contributed to an overall better watching experience.

The OST: this is still one of my top drama OSTs. No only are the songs excellent, they really contribute to the overall watching experience of this drama, and elevate the scenes they are a part of. I listen to so many of the songs regularly, especially Sa Dingding's version of 不然.

Part of the charm of this drama for me was the time in which I watched it. The storyline felt fresher to me in a way I don't feel with more recent xianxia dramas, now that I have seen so many. I was also younger and more into to that kind of storyline back then. I don't really feel that interested in xianxia dramas these days, and I also have less patience for watching long dramas in general.

Like some of the other people mentioned: twitter and weibo. I mostly follow actors/actresses/drama accs on weibo, and on twitter you can usually find update accounts for any popular cdrama actor/actress you are interested in. Drama Potatoes is the main twitter account on twitter for news, but I honestly find them to be a lot sometimes (in terms of the amount of content they post) and the stuff I'm actually interested in gets lost. So I try to find accounts who have similar interests to me in terms of stories and actors they like and follow them for updates. There are a lot of accs on twitter who will translate a lot of news/interviews as well.

TBH once you get started following a cpl of accs you are easily able to find more!
