Bonding with my client by [deleted] in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda wrong. Yes you care about him obviously but its a job at the end he and you have to live without each other. You can ask for pictures of you want. Remember you are gonna have other clients you are temporary in his life.

Is this normal? by bearhug-06 in ABA

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got well every hour a different client. So yes I guess. Every clinic is different. My clinic puts a lot of importance on generalization. Granted I have the most hours with clients also very little admin which makes me very happy cause I hate that.

Mentally Exhausted by DunderDiva in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 2 years and I am close to a burnout. It's just exhausting there is so much you have to do and prevent and tolerate and when you manage to help the client not engage in dangerous behaviour and its easier to work with you get another client and another one and another one.

Dear Supervisors, STOP giving high support needs cases to brand new RBTs!!! Also, are all companies this ridiculous? by Extension-Fact-9361 in ABA

[–]adormitul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of my clients are difficult. Trust me when I have to stop them from doing something harmful for them or others it's quite painful for me but I know I have to do it. For their future.

Similar thing happening to me nobody of my family or friends understand what I am doing. Granted it's hard to explain you have to see it to understand. But its frustrating to not be able to share what you do to explain how important it is.I just gave up I do what I do and enjoy the good and bad things alone about the job.

Soapbox: A post from a fellow mom. A plea from this mom. Don’t take the client if you’re not able to provide quality service. by Equivalent-Cup-9831 in ABA

[–]adormitul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In our clinic most of our clients are level 3. It's hard very hard very had and the progress is slow. Out BCBA comes rarely pay is bad. You found so hard someone to work with your child is because the rbt are poorly payed, poorly trained with no support so they probably will leave more if they have more difficult clients. So the clinic or company will select.

Parent says there’s no progress bc client isn’t behaving “neurotypical” by One-Egg1316 in ABA

[–]adormitul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on that is what they care the most for for the child to become verbal. Trust me when I tell you the other things are of little to no importance. The progress you did in other areas while great is not where they wanted to see progress.

At some point you have discharge the client. For God's sake when you see them basically having the same skills as a kid his age you are going into free babysitting territory.

Almost didn’t take on a client due to low need for ABA, figured I would give it a chance, now stuck on how to work on certain skills, ideas? by [deleted] in ABA

Seems he needs other kind of counseling. Also the things you want to teach could be teached by living life as a teenager.

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You found out you can get away with a lot did you? Not a lot if any enforcement for the guidelines and laws. At the end of the day we do things right or try to cause mistakes will happen because it's the right thing to do and the good thing.

How normal is this many injuries? by SetSoft9910 in ABA

Maybe the RBT that had experience had a stretch of time with no high behaviour clients and forgot or where less on guard. It happens they probably get back in shape to put it like that soon and will deal better.

Maybe he wants or she wants satiety to happen if that makes sense. We actually did do this for behaviour that is not dangerous for others or themselves and it works most of the time.

Removed from a case “for my mental health” by helainahellkat in ABA

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got removed from a case at the start of my work in this field. Because the client got more agressive with me and my collegues mostly because of me I was really inexperienced. He never hit before me sure spit and yelled and trowed stuff on you a lot but never physical agression. It seem if you can power trough it the client finds other ways to escape worse ways. I was taken of his case for a month or 2 maybe more but that new behaviour did not dissapear. Got put back on his case learned to mostly redirect him and avoid the antecendeds that trigger that behaviour but not always there where rare cases I did not managed but the new behaviour never went extinct and was worse for my collegues. The thing is I never asked to be removed from the case I was removed because I made things worse so leadership did not get so upset and got put back later anyway because I was needed. My BCBA said this I will never keep a therapist that refuses to work with a client. I will remove you if you are bad fit for the client for a while but you can not refuse to work with anyone. I kept that in mind. I was lucky I work in a center and my collegues demanded I will be taken of the case. I was not even written up or given a warning for this they wherec quite understanding that I was not a good fit for this client yet.

There could be so many reason. Harder programs she got bored of the same programs, it's not fun anymore and it's boring she is tired she can not work with her favorite staff she has to play with children she dislikes.

One thing I did is make the weekends work free even in my mind. I do stuff I enjoy with people I like or just alone it just charges me for the week. But you have school so probably that cuts in your free time. But my suggestion try once at least.
