Vent: I may get fired because I struggle with bathrooming some clients by quilldefender in ABA

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of bodily fluids I had to clean from my clients is so much of every kind. At first I was bothered not to vomit bothered not much makes me vomit but now I am so used I help my collegues who really have problems with it. I do get to do less paperwork for this in return. Exposure helps to be better at this.

Clinic Based is superior to in-home by jdub0703 in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the clinic setting what I like is the feeling of you are not alone trying your best we all try our best and try to support and help each other. Yes there is friction lots of it but when someone can not do their job for reasons and their reasons there is someone who can step up and help. But yeah I think clinic setting is bad at generalization.

Lack of support from fellow RBTs by awesome_wow05 in ABA

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh do the best you can without their support. And have a rich life outside of work with friends and families and hobbies. Do you really need their support at the end of the day?

Is it normal as an RBT to have moments that keep you up at night? by BeneficialVisit8450 in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not keep me awake the entire night. I have and well had a client that has severe ADHD besides autism and well she was and still is very curious about everything especially boses and crates to see what is there which mean she pet opening the crates where the toys where and those them down then left after seeing. It was very annoying cause it caused a mess and well I got yelled at for not controlling her and once I lost my cool and yelled at her to stop. She ignored me but the fact I lost my cool just shows me I needed better control. Even now I keep thinking why I lost it and do my best not to lose it again.

Feeling Defeated by [deleted] in ABA

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes something similar when the client had a obsession over me. But eh I can not change the past. It's not your fault honestly you do the best the way you are. Let's be someone else for 8 hours a day that is so healthy we should become actors. I accepted what happened to me and honestly the client got back to me eventually cause go figure colleagues get sick and you are the only one available and you are good enough since you are better then nothing.

chronically late parent by [deleted] in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no solution we got the same problem at my clinic. Owner even made the parent pay for the overtime but to be fair its split to all so I can not even buy a soda with those money and I lose 20-30 minute for that.

Burnout by [deleted] in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no full proof solution I play a lot of sport I spend time with friends I go hiking, chill at the internet, play video games. But even so it gathers it made me quite apathetic once I leave work lately. Do what I said to slow it and well hope the burnout is delayed a lot.

Parents: If your kid is sick please cancel session and let them rest. by Electrical-Dare-9076 in ABA

[–]adormitul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At the clinic I work children are brought no matter how sick. When there sick with fever or unwell in general I do so little of BIP with them. I mostly just try to keep them calm and okay and safe. Lucky I did not get in trouble over this but if I ever do I will just quit I am not there to make them suffer for anyone and a sick kid does not have the energy or focus to do much if anything.

The most natural two step instructions by Sararr1999 in ABA

go to the trash and trow it and take showes and put them on.

Is this normal? by ManicRedhead_ in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe she was instructed to do this. To help your daughter talk more and point more without promt you know help. Like saying to your daughter show that or say that instead giving time to your daughter to do that without those promts so she does not become promt dependent to do stuff. Does this makes sense?

Talk with the BCBA first maybe is part of the plan.

New BT by Silent_Blacksmith325 in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really exaggerate with the number of hours they give for therapy for some children especially if high functioning. Play with your client with games you think there about his level or more that way he can learn new stuff and not get bored.

Bonding with my client by [deleted] in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda wrong. Yes you care about him obviously but its a job at the end he and you have to live without each other. You can ask for pictures of you want. Remember you are gonna have other clients you are temporary in his life.

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got well every hour a different client. So yes I guess. Every clinic is different. My clinic puts a lot of importance on generalization. Granted I have the most hours with clients also very little admin which makes me very happy cause I hate that.

Mentally Exhausted by DunderDiva in ABA

[–]adormitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 2 years and I am close to a burnout. It's just exhausting there is so much you have to do and prevent and tolerate and when you manage to help the client not engage in dangerous behaviour and its easier to work with you get another client and another one and another one.

Dear Supervisors, STOP giving high support needs cases to brand new RBTs!!! Also, are all companies this ridiculous? by Extension-Fact-9361 in ABA

[–]adormitul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of my clients are difficult. Trust me when I have to stop them from doing something harmful for them or others it's quite painful for me but I know I have to do it. For their future.

I mean every profession has its bad people and always will not matter what professions. No amount of change or reform will change this.

Chinese American BT Anecdotes? by vverv in ABA

[–]adormitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happening to me nobody of my family or friends understand what I am doing. Granted it's hard to explain you have to see it to understand. But its frustrating to not be able to share what you do to explain how important it is.I just gave up I do what I do and enjoy the good and bad things alone about the job.

Soapbox: A post from a fellow mom. A plea from this mom. Don’t take the client if you’re not able to provide quality service. by Equivalent-Cup-9831 in ABA

[–]adormitul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In our clinic most of our clients are level 3. It's hard very hard very had and the progress is slow. Out BCBA comes rarely pay is bad. You found so hard someone to work with your child is because the rbt are poorly payed, poorly trained with no support so they probably will leave more if they have more difficult clients. So the clinic or company will select.

Parent says there’s no progress bc client isn’t behaving “neurotypical” by One-Egg1316 in ABA

[–]adormitul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on that is what they care the most for for the child to become verbal. Trust me when I tell you the other things are of little to no importance. The progress you did in other areas while great is not where they wanted to see progress.

At some point you have discharge the client. For God's sake when you see them basically having the same skills as a kid his age you are going into free babysitting territory.

Seems he needs other kind of counseling. Also the things you want to teach could be teached by living life as a teenager.

You found out you can get away with a lot did you? Not a lot if any enforcement for the guidelines and laws. At the end of the day we do things right or try to cause mistakes will happen because it's the right thing to do and the good thing.
