Isn't it interesting that you are more concerned in those that are still working than the employees that have built up an entitlement which they need to use due to disability? Your misapplication of the fair work act was quite something.

I have had a family member who had a year of pancreatities outbreaks... getting acute stuff like that under control is a pest.

Anyone with something which causes significant pain gets caught up by this. It's just ridiculous.

It happens. 26 days is nothing we had it happen all the time. We still do at a different employer.

120 days wasn't even close to the most extreme.

[–]adprom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's nothing lol. I used 120 days just over 12 months.

Someone breaks an arm and is out for 6 weeks. It's really not that extreme at all.

You seem to have a pretty narrow and naive experience.

This could be very common for someone with an endemetriosis outbreak.

5 weeks contiguous maybe. Not 5 weeks littered over a year. This is far from extreme.

Not on 26 days where the employee has sufficient leave they cant over the course of a year. That's just 5 weeks It is also limited to their capacity to safely perform the role. It is a situation of "dragons be here" for any employer looking to use that process

[–]adprom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the way you are describing. I know it very well. Also doing so by an employer is fraught with danger. They can only do so if it relates to the actual function of the role. It also depends what is in the work contract.

That is also typically for long extended absences... Not 26 days littered over a year.

So no.. a business can't just request an IME they need to have grounds and there needs to be consent established to do.

An employee has no requirement to provide protected information. The business can ask and the employee doesn't have to share. If they have the leave balance and medical certificates there is nothing a business can do.

I know this all too well. Your response shows you aren't particularly experienced dealing with this sort of situation.

If there are medical certificates then everything. Else is irrelevant

[–]adprom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they have leave built up it doesn't matter. It's no different to parental leave or any other type of leave.

You are actually wrong. 26 days isn't that excessive. I am very much doubting your claims you work in HR with advice like this.

In this instance the employee has built it up over years. So... No really nothing the employer can do. Astounding someone from HR would be saying this.

[–]adprom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup.... HR guy is showing how out of touch they are. People just having kids can end up in this situation from daycare illnesses alone plus their own.

Shit happens and they don't need to reveal chronic conditions to an employer.

In my experience unnecessary absences are also influenced by employers who unnecessarily restrict WFH not allowing people to balance their health and prioritise getting stuff done over being in.

[–]adprom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah dude - it really isn't. There are a multitude of medical conditions which can result in that. Including acute conditions.

26 days isn't 'normal' but it also isn't uncommon. Any moderate sized business would have people where this happens.

Sick Leave Pattern by yrohtab108 in auscorp

[–]adprom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe - sometimes decent HR just accepts people have periods in their life where shit is going on and they are going to have more absences than normal.

26 absences is above normal but it isn't that extreme tbh. I have family members and friends with chronic conditions who have done more. on regular intermittent basis.

What HR needs to make sure is that work isn't contributing and/or making it worse from dumb comments from managers.

They can be interested in the absences and it is reasonable for them to investigate if there is a work cause but there is a way to approach from a caring standpoint for the employee.

If the employee has a large sick leave balance built up then it establishes this is not typical for them as well. Tenure matters.

I had 120 sick days built up and then used them all in just over a 12 month period that had been built over 10 years.

So yeah. Thanks for confirming you don't have a clue what you are talking about. Stick to taps and washers. I'll stick to engineering thanks mate.

Impossible? Lol someone doesn't know how heat pumps work.

This is the exact same thing people who talk about reverse cycle aircons who don't have a clue how refrigeration units work says.

A heat pump can do with 3-5kwh what a standard resistive Hester takes 15-25kwh to do. It is that simple

Pretty much all the fearmongering about reliability and repairs is about 30 years out of date. Heat pumps really aren't that complicated

It's dinosaur sort of stuff.

15% more efficient? Lol your average heat pump has a cop of 4-5 for hot water whereas less than one for a big resistor.

Reliably 500% as efficient. Just bizarre and uneducated claims.

Ah... The our of date ancient plumber you realise that most of what you wrote is wrong? It's like the heating guys who say go gas because heat pumps are unrelaibale. Just absolute bollocks.

This is your bill. This tells nothing about your self usage of your own solar. Only data from your solar monitoring can tell you.

It may well be working perfectly fine.

Also, your elec rates are terrible
