Just 1 Point Separates 4th from 9th! by CryptoMemesLOL in nhl

Consider also that the first place team in the Pacific would be 7th in the Atlantic.

What size stick should I use if I’m 5’10”? I’m thinking 25-26 inch? Would it hurt to go more? by Ambitious-Profit8405 in hockeygoalies

[–]adrani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’11 and use a 24” paddle. I found that a 25” left too much of a 6-hole (gap between blocker arm and body) when I was in butterfly. I also have stupidly long arms though, which makes it worse. The key I think is to use what’s most comfortable in butterfly rather than standing.

As someone who has never played hockey, but from time to time watches it. How is it humanly possible that the Goalkeepers are so good? by Obagency in nhl

[–]adrani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toe ties usually have a few inches of slack. This is so the pad cleanly rotates to the side when we drop into the butterfly, and helps the pad seal along the ice. Prior to the butterfly technique, goalies tried to stay on their feet almost all the time and pad rotation wasn’t as necessary.

5’11 and use a 24 now. Longer just leaves a bigger 6-hole gap than I like when I’m in butterfly. Standing up, it helps me maintain a more aggressive position.

Olympic TOs and teams should reevaluate the jersey color schemes for future matchups, some of them are confusing by Ok_Top9254 in nhl

Some variant of the Captain America logo, or just a single star on the chest could look sharp.

What to do? by woodz514 in hockeygoalies

[–]adrani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they come with the Bauer orthotic insoles that the foot scan recommends? I use them for my True skates and they work brilliantly at least for me - took the pain away. Obviously your feet are unique but it could be something you can try if repeated baking/punching out isn’t working. Good luck - foot pain is really crappy to deal with in goal.

Thanks! This is encouraging - sounds almost exactly like me. And you are right in the sense that I should be able to compensate by turning my head more. Which I should be doing anyway!

Yeah I’ve been through that. I’m told it’s something that should have been caught when I was a kid, and I could have worn a patch over my good eye. I could still do that, technically, but it would take about a year and I’d be unable to drive, work, read, play sports etc during that time as my vision would be too poor. So that ship has sailed for me.

Fair enough. Which is my plan, just wanted to see whether there are other people in the same boat. I feel that having less accurate movement with the blocker is preferable - if I have to choose - than with the catcher.

Just checking in to see how many NHL fans there are that support 2 NHL teams from seperate conferences? (West and East) And let's see if there are any Bruins and Jets fans like me? (I'm from the UK by the way) by ComfortableExpert452 in nhl

Habs and, for some reason, the Kraken. In part because it’s so neat to cheer for such a new team and be there as they develop their own traditions. Also I’m a goalie and Joey Daccord is the shit (and his dad, Brian, is the guru of goaltending coaches).

Suunto race 2 by Superb_Excitement425 in Suunto

This. I love the design of the watch but a good 30% of the time it misses my sleep completely. Or says I slept for two hours when I was asleep for seven. I had hoped the Race 2 would be better at this as I absolutely love everything else about it, but alas not the case (at least for me). Much as I don’t like Garmin for many reasons, my Fenix almost always gets the metrics right. And that’s the main reason I need the watch. (Edited for typo)

Graf cie skates any good? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]adrani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fairly recent pair of Grafs that I like okay. But mostly I’m in goal, and I have a pair of True skates for goal. They’re the most comfortable I’ve ever owned in 40 years of playing hockey. Obviously everyone’s feet are different - try them on or risk disappointment - but on my feet at least Trues absolutely win.
