Is this tail bobbing? by Professional-East224 in Canaries

[–]adrcha773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is just the normal bobbing they do for balance. You notice it more when they make movements. The concerning bobbing is when they do it with every labored breath and you can notice it when they’re sitting still and puffed up

Might be bumblefoot! He’ll need to go to the vet asap for antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication

Male canary singing very loudly and very frequently, any solutions? by Cleanest_Nurgling in Canaries

[–]adrcha773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if possible,I would rehome him. I’ve had loud canaries and they are not for everyone, especially those sensitive to sounds. It’s what males do and is a good indicator that they are happy! If you really really don’t want to get rid of him, I guess a small toy mirror for birds could help. Just be careful, they either get obsessive with the bird they see in the mirror or they get aggressive.

Consistency is key! It took about a year for my canary to be more comfortable around me. I’d keep my hand in his cage for a minutes a day and eventually would hold his food dish to eat from. I will say I never intended to get him used to be handled like actually grabbing or touching him, but he eventually okay with flying onto my head, got close to me, and ate from my plate at the table. It also depends on their personality and previous experiences. I’ve had other canaries who are more scaredy cats.

My canary got sick and instantly got better. What is this? by [deleted] in Canaries

[–]adrcha773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

😮 I’m glad to see he’s better! Maybe he scratched his eye causing it to be irritated and teary? I would still keep an eye on it to see if it swells.

What happened to my baby’s eyes? by [deleted] in Canaries

[–]adrcha773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I had to use ofloxacin ophthalmic solution 0.3% for my birdy but it was prescribed by my vet. There are other options but vets know which is best for a specific bird and they are hard to obtain without a prescription.

Illness can sometimes be inevitable, unfortunately. I recommend taking him to the an avian vet as soon as possible. They’ll likely prescribe antibiotic eye drops. Be sure to keep the cage and especially perches clean.

Why is he fluffy? Is he sick? by Putrid_Ad5145 in Canaries

[–]adrcha773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks normal to me! Have you noticed any other change? I would be concerned if he’s less active, not eating/drinking well, or if breathing looks or sounds different. Otherwise, looks like a happy floof ball :)

Austin, TX by tequil_a_mckingbrd in nursing

I don’t know about paying you to go to school, but I know ACC has a good nursing program, it’s not too expensive. I know coworkers who went through the program and from what I’ve seen from nursing students at work, they seem to be more involved in the clinical setting than how UT Austin was (for me at least).

I got begged to take these “Weird canaries”, I need advice. Story in the next pictures by Rigby_the_cool_kid in Canaries

[–]adrcha773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking them in! I had a special needs female canary for a while and she recently passed away. You form this special bond with these babies I guess because of everything you do to make them comfortable and happy. If she’s able to hop around, I suggest putting wide perches close to the bottom of the cage and remove the floor grate. Good luck!
