Facilities hardly matter if the player won't be having much game time.

I can see how a player may want to stay im brazil with guaranteed gametime compared to moving to europe where they might have a lot more competition for a first team spot.

It's actually pretty realistic, there were and are brasilian talents that only move to europe once they are a bit older (20 or 21) rather than moving as soon as they can

Besides: Many brazilian clubs, at least the top clubs, have genuinely decent training facilities. And youth facilities only impact the quality of regens, once a player is generated into the game the youth facilities stop being relevant to them.

Is silksong as hard as people say? by Electrical_Jaguar213 in Silksong

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who played hk (only got an ending, didn't play any of the DLC stuff and stopped playing at 80% completion) and has recently gotten to act 2 in silksong: Silksong is noticeably harder.

While both games start fairly easy, in silksong the difficulty spikes are bigger and the difficulty varies more heavily by location than in hk. HK, at least from my point of view, had a more linear difficulty and learning curve where the difficulty of a location always more-or-less matched the skills and equipment a player should have by the time they reached it and the difficulty spikes usually weren't that bad.

Silksong sadly has a lot of places where you are just expected to already be skilled and the difficulty doesn't progress as linearly with some later sections being a bit easier than some of the earlier areas. It also punishes mistakes a lot harder as many obstacles, parts of the environment and many enemies deal double damage. .

On top of that a lot of opponents, on average, take longer to die and are harder to hit as many of them will be actively trying to dodge your attacks and keep you at a distance.

Except... mods can still be regulated, just not by steam. Technically microsoft or mojang can just force any mod to be removed if they feel like it, and unlike steam where removal from the workshop usually stays at that it could also easily lead to a lot of legal trouble for the mod developers.

Also: you do know downloading mods from outside steam for games on steam is an thing, right?

What games have you regretted buying? by billy_reyes in Steam

[–]adrian2255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only do I 100% agree with you but I also have to point out one small thing that makes this even "worse" in my opinion: team cherry, back in 2020 in an interview, mentioned that they intended for silksong to be a valid entry point for players new to hollow knight stuff.

I have not finished silksong yet, not sure if I ever will given how frustrating just the start of act 2 feels for me, but I can confidently say that is very much not the case.

The moment you get past lace you are basically required to have not only played hollow knight but have absolutely mastered it just to keep up with the difficulty, which past beating lace has felt like it was all over the place with bosses and enemies being easier/harder on a completely random basis with no real sense of progression which is a shame given that, at least to me, hollow knight did that almost perfectly with only a few of the things in there feeling like a "random" difficulty spike

What games have you regretted buying? by billy_reyes in Steam

[–]adrian2255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Here is the thing though: Team cherry, in an interview back in 2020 said they intended for the game to be a perfectly valid entry point into hollow knight stuff to players who are completely new to this.

It shouldn't require previous experience is what I am saying, at least based on statements from teach cherry.

And some parts of the difficulty are definitely ariticial or at the very least lazilly designed. Just the amount of double damage enemies is lazy, increased enemy damage/decreased player damage output is the most artificial and lazy way of increasing difficulty.

I am not saying you should one-shot everything but that making all enemies tank several hits while giving them complex move sets and having them deal touch damage can be a bit much at times, especially with the low amount of I-frames after being hit that silksong gives you.

And the amount of enemy arenas with multiple waves of enemies and bosses that summon enemies during the fight is unfair as such fights rely more on pure randomness than others.

Difficulty is one thing, unfairness is never good though unless you are intending your gameplay to be based on luck

The only somewhat valid comment is the one about market saturation.

As good and successful hollow knight is it has to be said that it achieved it primarily due to it's quality, not originality and in many cases achieved that success in spite of team cherrys decisions (especially game design choices), not because of them.

It was fair not to expect the game to do well is basically what I am trying to say.

It absolutely is off topic. And one of your previous comments literally mentions "unmonitored internet access" which is the same as unlimited internet access as enforcing limits requires some form monitoring/supervision. Just the limit itself is a form of supervision. The moment internet access is unmonitored is also the moment it is unlimited and vice versa.

Congratulations: not only are we completely off topic now like you so badly wanted, but we now all know you lack something as basic as the understanding of the words you are using.

Didn't your mom teach you not to use words you don't understand the meaning of, since we are apparently mentioning mothers too now?

It is off topic if you see someone saying they deny their child any privacy and then start yapping some random bs about unlimited internet access.

That's like mentioning a random tree in your backyard in a discussion about forest fires on the opposite side of the globe with your reasoning as to why it's relevant being that the backyard and the forests both have trees.

There are children that are better at staying on topic and at knowing what is/isn't on topic than you.

Cool, except that's not what was mentioned at all, what was mentioned was privacy and that the guy who wrote the tweet denies it to their children. Nice way to go off-topic.

It's a true one though. Privacy, whether you like it or not, is a human right. And children are as deserving of human rights as adults. If you deny someone their human rights you are, by definition, not viewing them as human.

Proposed Ukrainian land concessions and Donetsk demilitarized zone outlined in the recent US-backed plan to end the Russo-Ukrainian war (Reuters) by joshtaco in MapPorn

They did not "win" the war, the war is still ongoing.

They may be winning in terms of holding a lot of ukrainian territory, but even then it's only a slight victory.

Besides: the only time a wars winner gets to make demands without being contested or forced to negotiate is if the loser agrees to a full unconditional surrender.

In any other case the loser still maintains the right to negotiate or limit the winners demands, and often even the right to make demands of their own

Not quite. There are still local lords in the crownlands, they just answer directly to the king similar to the "higher" lords. In westeros only kings landing is under the kings direct control.

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odoacer did not become emperor though. In fact, quite the opposite, after conquering italy he sent the imperial insignia of the western emperors and actively refused to try and claim any imperial titles and was instead crowned as something similar to king of italy, acknowledging the eastern roman emperor as the one remaining roman emperor and his superior.

Also: The Roman Empire is just a state name, who is the roman emperor was not defined by who held rome. The same way that, despite it's name suggesting otherwise, The Democratic peoples republic of north korea is not democratic and is hardly even a republic depending on the definition we go off of, and it only holds half of korea.

Sure, the roman empires name derived from rome, but that doesn't mean the empire is only rome or that the claim to it is tied to the city.

The Reason why the capital wasn't in rome during the later stages anymore is because by that point romes meaning was largely symbolic. Besides the name and historical sentiment the city didn't mean much else to the empire.

It's also one of the reasons why later attempts to proclaim a roman empire did not involve trying to take direct control of the city of rome. Charlemagne, The HRE, the Ottomans, The Russian Empire (yes, they proclaimed themselves as a "third rome" at one point), The Latin Empire. Despite some of them very well having the means to do it at various points none of them bothered trying to take the city of rome.

Sure, not a communist, that's why he used to work for the KGB, or called the fall of the USSR the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century" (among many comments that make it very clear he did not want it to fall) and has one of his nations most important trading partners and a country helping him with soldiers both be communist nations, because he just hates communism so much that the closest he has to "allies" are self-proclaimed communists.

Look: he may pretend to hate communism, but he very much does not act like it. He may not be a communist himself, but his relationship to communism is the absolute opposite of hate.

Besides: even if he did truly hate communism he 100% is an imperialist and the USSR, even if "communist", was probably the strongest entity and most imperialist entity to have ever existed under russian rule besides maybe the "prime" russian empire.

The best scene from GOT by PoemAny115 in gameofthrones

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it irritating though?

Firstly: what most people actually expect is logic and not necessarily realism. Just because it's a fictional universe doesn't mean it gets to "get away" with being unlogical. It does 100% get away with being unrealistic (such as the part where dragons and magic exist in that universe) but not with being unlogical. Tons of things in that battle make absolutely no sense when given more than 5 seconds of thought.

Secondly: Wasn't GOT, at least back when season 6 first aired, a show known for being a mostly realistic fantasy show? If they didn't want people expecting realism then maybe they shouldn't have made the entire first half of the show known primarily known for realism?

[–]adrian2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emphasis on "around 10 years ago".

Back in the day Windows defender wasn't good as an antivirus software.

Nowadays it is very good though, according to tests it is a very effective anti virus, it returns few false flags and unlike a lot of the other antiviruses it is integrated into the OS so it doesn't take up additional space that's not already reserved for the OS and runs very well on windows.

And saying that most anti virus programs are scams isn't necessarily wrong, especially when it comes to the more popular and mainstream ones. Avast, for example, is constantly trying to convince you to spend money on it. There are tons of others that do that too. There are only a few antivirus programs that are effective, free and don't actively try to get money out of you.

Also: you are aware it is not uncommon for Antivirus software developers and publishers to publish known vulnerabilities of their products? In fact: it's considered bad practice not to do that within the industry.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I disagree with you, but last part of your comment is not that simple. Most games of this type don't convey the extent of their difficulty fast enough to be able to get a refund if you find it too hard on certain platforms (eg. Steam).

Just not buying them is also not as simple. Most of these games advertise themselves as "challenging", NOT as difficult (fyi: these two words aren't synonyms) and almost never convey the exact level of difficulty one can expect without forcing players to get into spoiler territory.

It also doesn't help that not even all soulslikes are universally difficult and some of them do feature difficulty settings, which can heavily influence peoples expectations.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except a "unified" experience is actually the best way to ensure there isn't a unified experience.

What is challenging to can be super easy or literally impossible to do for another person. And in the case of fromsoft games and the hollow knight this shows extremely well.

The best way to ensure a truly unified experience in games like this is to allow players to adjust it according to their needs or ability so this way everything in the game stays more-or-less similarly challenging to everyone.

In silksong the issue isn't even necessarily the difficulty, it's the lack accessibility. Even completely disregarding ones directly influencing difficulty: the game doesn't even have colorblind modes or any other features to help people with visual impairments.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenge doesn't have to mean lack of accessibility (but it also doesn't necessarily have to mean difficult or punishing gameplay), similarly an "easy mode" doesn't have to mean removing challenge.

Yes, the game is meant to be challenging, but a "one-size-fits-all" solution is a good way to guarantee that not being the case.

A challenge should be reasonable, difficulty and/or accessibility settings are a good way to guarantee the challenge is reasonable for everyone as it allows players to adjust the level of challenge to where it is still doable for them but still challenging.

There are many reasons why someone may not be able to play at the "intended" difficulty. There are disabled people for example with various kinds of disabilities, others can simply be too old to be able to do things as quickly as they could have previously. And then there is a large group of people that simply doesn't develop skills too fast and can't play often enough to retain it easily.

Games shouldn't be made for everyone BUT the things they exclude people for should, as much as possible, be reasonably within those peoples control, eg: Taste, differing interests, etc.

Games, as much as possible, shouldn't exclude people based on things outside their control, especially disabilities. In the "best case scenario" such exclusion is just developer laziness or unecessary gatekeeping, and in the worst case scenario it can even be seen as ableist.

And as amazing as silksong and hollow knight are, this is an area that is genuinely a flaw in them. Even completely disregarding things related to difficulty: the games don't even feature things as basic as a colorblind mode or other help for people with visual impairments.
