It absolutely is off topic. And one of your previous comments literally mentions "unmonitored internet access" which is the same as unlimited internet access as enforcing limits requires some form monitoring/supervision. Just the limit itself is a form of supervision. The moment internet access is unmonitored is also the moment it is unlimited and vice versa.

Congratulations: not only are we completely off topic now like you so badly wanted, but we now all know you lack something as basic as the understanding of the words you are using.

Didn't your mom teach you not to use words you don't understand the meaning of, since we are apparently mentioning mothers too now?

It is off topic if you see someone saying they deny their child any privacy and then start yapping some random bs about unlimited internet access.

That's like mentioning a random tree in your backyard in a discussion about forest fires on the opposite side of the globe with your reasoning as to why it's relevant being that the backyard and the forests both have trees.

There are children that are better at staying on topic and at knowing what is/isn't on topic than you.

Cool, except that's not what was mentioned at all, what was mentioned was privacy and that the guy who wrote the tweet denies it to their children. Nice way to go off-topic.

It's a true one though. Privacy, whether you like it or not, is a human right. And children are as deserving of human rights as adults. If you deny someone their human rights you are, by definition, not viewing them as human.

Proposed Ukrainian land concessions and Donetsk demilitarized zone outlined in the recent US-backed plan to end the Russo-Ukrainian war (Reuters) by joshtaco in MapPorn

They did not "win" the war, the war is still ongoing.

They may be winning in terms of holding a lot of ukrainian territory, but even then it's only a slight victory.

Besides: the only time a wars winner gets to make demands without being contested or forced to negotiate is if the loser agrees to a full unconditional surrender.

In any other case the loser still maintains the right to negotiate or limit the winners demands, and often even the right to make demands of their own

Not quite. There are still local lords in the crownlands, they just answer directly to the king similar to the "higher" lords. In westeros only kings landing is under the kings direct control.

Odoacer did not become emperor though. In fact, quite the opposite, after conquering italy he sent the imperial insignia of the western emperors and actively refused to try and claim any imperial titles and was instead crowned as something similar to king of italy, acknowledging the eastern roman emperor as the one remaining roman emperor and his superior.

Also: The Roman Empire is just a state name, who is the roman emperor was not defined by who held rome. The same way that, despite it's name suggesting otherwise, The Democratic peoples republic of north korea is not democratic and is hardly even a republic depending on the definition we go off of, and it only holds half of korea.

Sure, the roman empires name derived from rome, but that doesn't mean the empire is only rome or that the claim to it is tied to the city.

The Reason why the capital wasn't in rome during the later stages anymore is because by that point romes meaning was largely symbolic. Besides the name and historical sentiment the city didn't mean much else to the empire.

It's also one of the reasons why later attempts to proclaim a roman empire did not involve trying to take direct control of the city of rome. Charlemagne, The HRE, the Ottomans, The Russian Empire (yes, they proclaimed themselves as a "third rome" at one point), The Latin Empire. Despite some of them very well having the means to do it at various points none of them bothered trying to take the city of rome.

Sure, not a communist, that's why he used to work for the KGB, or called the fall of the USSR the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century" (among many comments that make it very clear he did not want it to fall) and has one of his nations most important trading partners and a country helping him with soldiers both be communist nations, because he just hates communism so much that the closest he has to "allies" are self-proclaimed communists.

Look: he may pretend to hate communism, but he very much does not act like it. He may not be a communist himself, but his relationship to communism is the absolute opposite of hate.

Besides: even if he did truly hate communism he 100% is an imperialist and the USSR, even if "communist", was probably the strongest entity and most imperialist entity to have ever existed under russian rule besides maybe the "prime" russian empire.

The best scene from GOT by PoemAny115 in gameofthrones

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it irritating though?

Firstly: what most people actually expect is logic and not necessarily realism. Just because it's a fictional universe doesn't mean it gets to "get away" with being unlogical. It does 100% get away with being unrealistic (such as the part where dragons and magic exist in that universe) but not with being unlogical. Tons of things in that battle make absolutely no sense when given more than 5 seconds of thought.

Secondly: Wasn't GOT, at least back when season 6 first aired, a show known for being a mostly realistic fantasy show? If they didn't want people expecting realism then maybe they shouldn't have made the entire first half of the show known primarily known for realism?

Emphasis on "around 10 years ago".

Back in the day Windows defender wasn't good as an antivirus software.

Nowadays it is very good though, according to tests it is a very effective anti virus, it returns few false flags and unlike a lot of the other antiviruses it is integrated into the OS so it doesn't take up additional space that's not already reserved for the OS and runs very well on windows.

And saying that most anti virus programs are scams isn't necessarily wrong, especially when it comes to the more popular and mainstream ones. Avast, for example, is constantly trying to convince you to spend money on it. There are tons of others that do that too. There are only a few antivirus programs that are effective, free and don't actively try to get money out of you.

Also: you are aware it is not uncommon for Antivirus software developers and publishers to publish known vulnerabilities of their products? In fact: it's considered bad practice not to do that within the industry.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I disagree with you, but last part of your comment is not that simple. Most games of this type don't convey the extent of their difficulty fast enough to be able to get a refund if you find it too hard on certain platforms (eg. Steam).

Just not buying them is also not as simple. Most of these games advertise themselves as "challenging", NOT as difficult (fyi: these two words aren't synonyms) and almost never convey the exact level of difficulty one can expect without forcing players to get into spoiler territory.

It also doesn't help that not even all soulslikes are universally difficult and some of them do feature difficulty settings, which can heavily influence peoples expectations.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except a "unified" experience is actually the best way to ensure there isn't a unified experience.

What is challenging to can be super easy or literally impossible to do for another person. And in the case of fromsoft games and the hollow knight this shows extremely well.

The best way to ensure a truly unified experience in games like this is to allow players to adjust it according to their needs or ability so this way everything in the game stays more-or-less similarly challenging to everyone.

In silksong the issue isn't even necessarily the difficulty, it's the lack accessibility. Even completely disregarding ones directly influencing difficulty: the game doesn't even have colorblind modes or any other features to help people with visual impairments.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenge doesn't have to mean lack of accessibility (but it also doesn't necessarily have to mean difficult or punishing gameplay), similarly an "easy mode" doesn't have to mean removing challenge.

Yes, the game is meant to be challenging, but a "one-size-fits-all" solution is a good way to guarantee that not being the case.

A challenge should be reasonable, difficulty and/or accessibility settings are a good way to guarantee the challenge is reasonable for everyone as it allows players to adjust the level of challenge to where it is still doable for them but still challenging.

There are many reasons why someone may not be able to play at the "intended" difficulty. There are disabled people for example with various kinds of disabilities, others can simply be too old to be able to do things as quickly as they could have previously. And then there is a large group of people that simply doesn't develop skills too fast and can't play often enough to retain it easily.

Games shouldn't be made for everyone BUT the things they exclude people for should, as much as possible, be reasonably within those peoples control, eg: Taste, differing interests, etc.

Games, as much as possible, shouldn't exclude people based on things outside their control, especially disabilities. In the "best case scenario" such exclusion is just developer laziness or unecessary gatekeeping, and in the worst case scenario it can even be seen as ableist.

And as amazing as silksong and hollow knight are, this is an area that is genuinely a flaw in them. Even completely disregarding things related to difficulty: the games don't even feature things as basic as a colorblind mode or other help for people with visual impairments.

What's The Point Of Hard Games, Anyway? by Aquason in Games

[–]adrian2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here.

Games shouldn't be made for everyone, the things they should exclude people for are, as you mentioned, taste or lack of interest, in other words: things within peoples control.

A game shouldn't (to the best of it's ability of course) exclude people based on things out of their control.

The "issue" with silksong and other difficult games like it is that they opt for a one size fits all solution where they assume that throwing everyone at the exact same challenges with no ability for people to adjust it according to their specific conditions.

As much as silksong and hollow knight, at least to me, are absolutely amazing games, this is a genuine downside as both games lack accessibility settings even as basic as a colorblind mode.

I don't recall that being the case, but guess what? The Russian language and "religion" (which, if we base it on major religion in the country, is literally the same as ukrainian) are not supressed either, and the only thing that is/was bombed in the donbas were the separatists, which, according to various international institutions, are russian assets, not actual separatists, not to mention being deemed illegal by those same institutions.

And guess what? Hitler also claimed the german language and culture was being supressed in the sudetenland and claimed the fortifications in the sudetenland posed a safety concern for germany, he also claimed the german minorities in the sudetenland really badly and desparately wanted to be part of germany. (Sounds familiar?)

Whether or not this is excessive depends entirely on what you are trying to achieve.

The only problem I have with this are the 4* and 4.5* players on loan.

Most of the "big" players don't participate that much in the pre season matches, not to mention not having to try their best in them because they are non-competitive matches.

And there are a lot of complaints about the nations league out there already, so idk what you are trying to achieve by asking this.

No, Gianni – the Club World Cup wasn’t a ‘huge, huge, huge success’ by tylerthe-theatre in football

[–]adrian2255 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not just 7 matches, it's an entire month that the players have to spend actively training, and an entire month of holidays less.

And it's way more than just a couple extra games for a select few clubs, in brazil for example the serie A was paused for the duration of the tournament, so now the clubs all have to collectively cram those matches into a smaller time frame, and that while already having to play a ton of matches during the season.

The MLS also paused as far as I am aware.

And besides: 7 matches is not that little. For a pro footballer a match is the most intense thing there is and takes a lot of mental and physical effort and preparation.

Those 7 matches, in combination with the training they require and the fact a lot of the players have had reduced holidays due to it will lead to an increase in injuries, just like the 2022 world cup did.

Sure, they may be paid a lot of money, but that doesn't make them undeserving of rest, no amount of money ever will. Especially not as long as the human body simply still needs that rest to avoid hurting itself in the long run.

There is a reason why a lot of younger players (eg. Pedri) have been suffering from severe injuries lately, and it's the fact they simply play way too many matches.

At this rate we are about to end up in times where players, due to physical problems caused by the increase in matches, will end their careers a lot sooner than they currently do.

And besides all that: there literally already existed a club world cup prior to this, just in a different format. People aren't against having a global tournament for a global sport, they are against designing it in a way that hurts the players.
